Okay, well I'm still rather new to mapmaking. I have the basic idea of how to use StarEdit and I downloaded StarEdit X-Tra since it's similar.
I was thinking about getting StarDraft or StarForge also, do you think these may be over my head since I'm somewhat of a beginner? I would like to do some block tiles for maps, have some way of protecting maps, and it seems like they just offer some other little nifty things (like triggers) that X-Tra does not. I would like to hear some of the general highlights on what each offers and their usefulness would be helpful. Thanks
Note: Following what was stated in a separate Regulation Topic (see below), this is
NOT a place to bash either one of the two programs, I just would like to hear the benefits and worth of each to a rookie mapmaker.

Offically, as of now, I no longer want to see "program bashing" anywhere on these forums. You may have your own preference between SCMdraft and Starforge. To me, either one is excellent, and the programmers are absolute geniuses for what they have created.
Hundreds of hours of work went into making both of these programs for free for you to use with no personal gain in mind. If you are one of the people who would actually go on this website, and would egotisically plus selfishly say that one of the programs suck, then you have never accomplished anything at all with your life.
Think of your map. You spent hours upon hours on it. Then some moron comes on, and tells you it sucks. You know, that this moron has absolutely no idea what it takes to make a map, but yet they're ignorant enough to make such a stupid comment. It applies in a much greator scale in this case.
You don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all. Or I'll just ban you from both of the SCMdraft and Starforge forums. G'day.
