Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Crashing Problem

Hello everyone! I sort of need a prompt (12 hour) answer to this question, seeing that I am submitting this map to the contest, and I won't be here tomorrow night to submit it, and I need to do it tomorrow afternoon.

Anyways, my map is working fine, except for sometimes I randomly crash when I play it. I would just dismiss this as my starcraft acting up, but someone else in one of my testing games crashed as well.

What's puzzling me is that it happens at completely random times. I am just playing, and bam, it crashes. I would say that it seems to crash at times in where I move my screen via the minimap to units fighting, but that could be coincidence as well.

One last thing to note is that my friend that I tested with multiple times never crashed once, whereas I remember atleast 2 pubs crashing as well.

I posted the protected version of the map if anyone wants to try playing it to see for themselves. Any help would be REALLY appreciated, thank you.

Attachments don't work on SEN anymore, upload it somewhere else. Also, link to the UNPROTECTED version so we can try to find out what is wrong.

Do you notice any specific patterns to your crashing? Like does it crash when you arent moving a unit, or when you are, etc?

We have tutorials for everything!

None of the things on that list of crash reasons held true to the map.

Usually, I notice that it crashes when I am doing a lot, such as moving the screen on the minimap and going to order units to do something. However, the map in itself is a very action-based map, so I am doing that all the time, so I really don't see a pattern. One time someone else in my game crashed right before he was about to win, meaning that all the enemy's units were dead and there really wasn't much action going on.

Also, another key thing is that when it crashes, it doesn't do a crash like it does when you see an independent terran command center. It minimizes, and a windows error comes up saying "starcraft has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for your inconvience." Does that extra fact give anyone ideas?

Any help would be REALLY appreciated.. this is a really weird problem, but it can really effect the game.

As far as getting the map, just IM me or email me, since I don't have a server or anything to upload it to. GreenAppleJones7 and fritfrat2000@yahoo.com.

EDIT: Just crashed on me again.. basically, I wasn't even doing anything, just watching my goliaths attack my enemy's wraiths, and bam, minimized and closed sad.gif.

Double EDIT: Big realization! Every single time it crashed, it is later in the game. Well, really, the crash kinda makes it the end of the game... but what I mean is that from what I recall a decent amount of elapsed game time has occurred. It is a 96x96 installation map, but there never really get to be more than 100-200 units existing at the same time...

What do the crashes have in common?

What happens RIGHT before the game minimizes and crashes?

That will make it a lot quicker to figure out..

RIGHT before is extremely inconsistant. Usually, just something is happening, but the entire game is action-filled.

I think I have a theory, and even though it's unlikely, it's the only thing I can come up with. I use SCTrigger for money. There are 500 triggers that fire for each kill someone gets, giving them 2 minerals each. It could be that my computer is getting overloaded and can't handle it for some reason, so therefore just crashes.

I think this because when I went to save one game, it took a notable few seconds of loading before coming up the list of saves I already have, and my friends who have better computers never crash.

Is this completely out of whack, or no? I suppose I could test it by deleting all 500 triggers later and saving it as a different file name.. I will have to do this later, though, because I have to leave for the night. If this IS the problem, how else would I do the kills to money, considering I want each unit worth the same, have no extra space on the map, and units are being killed 2 at one time frequently?

Yet again, thanks for advice.

Well then that is definantly the case, 100% for sure. Simply to many triggers. Make less triggers/find a more effecient way of kill to cash. Problem solved.

I edited it, made it so it used a simple "if score is atleast 1, set to 0, and give money" trigger. The map still crashed. sad.gif

Does anyone want to check out this map and see what's wrong with it?

EDIT: Found out what it was!!! I haven't tested it yet, but I am almost sure this is it. Just never run a death counter on a human player smile.gif

Double EDIT: This was it. I suggest adding "using death counters with human players" to the "thing that can crash a map" tutorial smile.gif. Thanks everyone for their help.
