I used apophrysis and made some nice renders with white fractals on a blakc background.

Then I opened the renders in PS and inverted the colour.

Then I adjusted the partial whiteness to very bright white, then Edit > Define Brush and bam. The black part becomes a brush and the white part becomes transparent. I put the images at 70% opacity first, though.
