Ah, I remember the days of monopoly. That game would never end. I just remember lots of paper money and being greedy...

Then I remember Sorry! where you slide people off and stuff. It's not a deep game.

Chess was and still is one of the more challenging games I've played.

I never knew how to play Clue. O well.

Then there was 13 Dead End Drive, but I didn't know how to play that either...

So now, it's 2006 and a couple days ago, I bought Risk 2210. AD at my local Toys R Us for $40. I played it at my friend's house, with 4 players and for the most part, it was FANTASTIC.

Here's the map layout:

As you can see, other than the water and names, the map hasn't changed. The names are interesting, for instance, Brazil is now Amazon Desert.

There's also the moon to battle for:

There's cards like this one that increase strategy and tactics:

There's also commanders, which allow you to use a 8 sided die, rather than a 6 sided one.

Overall, it's plays just like Risk and you can even play the old Risk on it too. I didn't make this thread just for Risk, but to talk about other board games as well. They are cheaper than games, require no electricity, involve socializing and in my opinion, are much more fun than staring at a screen and pushing buttons with friends.

I love board games, never played risk though. I always wanted to see what the fuss about d&d is, so many people play it that i know, it shocks me that THEY played it, they really don't seem the type (that's right I'm stereotyping and there's nothing you can do so suck it!)

I agree Revelade... Board games are as addictive as they can get. Once.. I spent a whole frigging night trying to learn how to master chess and monopoly...

I paid my sister 20,000 neopoints from my old neopets account this last Christmas so she wouldn't make me go bankrupt in Monopoly. I ended up loosing anyway. Still lots of fun though. happy.gif

I played lots of board games before we got our first home computer (or maybe I should say before I got Midtown Madness, I didn't play much computer games before I got that fantastic game). Last time I played any was just before Christmas. I only have three X-Box controllers and I had four guests so we played Monopoly tongue.gif

I like to play 'Life' once every half of a year with my family. It's a really fun game when you have like 6 people, but is very time consuming.

I actually never finished a game of monopoly though, it just doesn't seem that we ever have 10 hours of free time...

That seems interesting, yet I doubt I'll find it at any on-foot store. It only seems to be 2 players, which seems a bit more confrontational. I like games that include lots of players. That's why I'm deciding to pick up Axis & Allies.

3 Allies - USA, Britain, Russia

are against

2 Axis - Japan, Germany

in total conflict, for the entire world!

The bad part is that the game starts always the same, unlike Risk, HOWEVER, there is a teamwork factor that should be fun. I like being the underdog, so I'll have to be Germany or Japan.

Yeh, Axis & Allies is great fun if you have 3-5 hours set aside for it.

I'd love to play risk one day, but none of my friends either want to play it or have 10 hours free to acutally finish the game.

I have Axis and Allies Europe, it is focused on Europe. Very fun game if you have 4 players. I have the very old Risk where the shapes are not men cannons etc. just a bunch of different symbols to represent what units. Life is fun too, I can manage to finnish it but monopoly, I've never completely finished it before.

It's basically the same as Risk, but the units are worth 1, 3 and 5, from the 1, 5 and 10 of the original.

Also, 4 devastation markers are used randomly on the map and no units may cross these ever. They keep the map different each game.

There's only 5 players, down from 6, but I found it okay.

There's energy you use to buy either commanders, cards or space stations.

There is no turn order, so players have to bid for who goes first with their energy.

Water and moon colonies give extra bonuses.

There's a 5 year limit, so each player only gets to go five times. This might seem short, but it's taken us usually 4 hours to get to this limit.

You can also play classic Risk on it too!

Yeah I have Risk, I duno which version though. It's a great game, but it's hard and takes a while to finish. xD

Oh gosh, do people still play Axis & Allies? I thought me and my friends was the only ones that actually played it. But then you understand that there is one way that you can do to win over the allies faster than quick!
I master Chess, and it's great fun encountering someone who is really good at it, then you get so much inspiration about new tactics and moves.

In Sweden, where I live we have a game called Rappakalja, or Balderdash in English. It's all about writing good meanings of unusual and wierd words. And if you convince the other players that your meaning of the word is the right answer, you move forward on the board.

Very fun game, it won prize for the Swedish game of the year 1990. And the game is still as fun as it has always been.

I have LOTR Risk. Regular risk rules with different figurines and map.

Monopoly > All when you have time

I enjoyed Stratego when I knew how to play.

I loooove board games. I haven't played any lately, though. I like Chess, Checkers, Chinese Checkers, Monopoly, and some others I can't think of off the top of my head.

I have never finished a game of monopoly. I'm pretty good at it, but my cousin is a whiz at it. She's a greedy female dog, and can kick my ass at the game. She's gonna grow up to be a deadly business woman (as long as she doesn't get knocked up at an early age).

When I was a kid, I loved to play Candyland. I'd probably play it again if I had it. tongue.gif

Back then I loved Board Games. I use to play them for hours with my friends and siblings. But they started getting boring. If any new and exciting board games come out I'd buy it.

Well, I picked up Axis & Allies at my local Toys R Us today for $40. I'm going to play in on Friday, so I haven't opened it up yet. All I know is that it has been revised in 2004 after 20+ years of playing. That kind of effort makes the purchase sweeter. I'm thinking about who I want to be: Japan, Germany, USA, Britain, Russia...

What's great is that each piece actually looks like it came from that country and that there's 300+ of them. Also, the game is about capturing certain cities, which allows you to adjust how many you want to capture to win. That means you can only capture 8 cities for a 2 hour game, 10 for a 4 and 12 for a 6 or beyond. That's another great part about the game.

Stratego is my favorite.
I lost it when I was moving though, and I haven't played it in forever sad.gif
Those games sound fun, expecially the modern risk. It sounds like it's a complete new game. The 5 turns thing sounds like a turn off though =\
