I can't find any recommendations on this map so I made it. I played this map a couple of times with friends and it was quite fun. It included a lot of concepts and is really enjoyable (if you're not scared w00t.gif ). I died many times and never really got around to beating the game but I doubt I would anyways. It's a pretty large file, 666.44kb. Maybe you could try it out if you haven't. It was made a long time ago. pinch.gif

The only one that could have competed with this would have been Xenomaniacs aliens map. As it is this map pwns.

10/10 without even playing it again.

In my opinion, it was a fun map, but not "OMFG!11!! tis map R0xX3Rz!!!!!!" kind of fun.

There were some things in the map that I couldn't exactly figure out what they did (the switch in basement near the Ultralisk and that Zerg Cerebrate that wasn't renamed... bad Bolt_Head!)

The ending made it seem as if Bolt_Head just slapped it together, but otherwise, I'd recommend it to others who haven't played or beaten it yet! A great classic.

Well... I never got that far... but I think it was cool. Bolt_head probably spent a while on terrain.

That switch in the basement closes the right door. The idea was that your suppost to lure the ultralisk into that room get him trapped in there since taking him on head to head is suicide. But ironiclly the suciidal approch is easier.

The Zerg Cerebrate is the designated home for the ultraisk. The Ultralisk on the first floor patrols the hall during the day and goes to the "bad" place to sleep. Its quite simply labled bad because its somewhere that you shouldn't go. That and if you actually make it there your pretty much sure to die shorty after.

Everyone complains about the ending but I love it. From the very beginning stages of creating HotH I had intended for you to be lost in a dream world. It kinda gave me an excuse to relicate the paranormal without logic behind it. The hints are settle but the intro is littered with them. First off the game starts with the dong of a clock that repeats over and over again untill you wake up. You start out next to a bed and you say "Huh? What? Must of been a Dream". The ending is the way you get out of the house, simply by waking up from your bad dream. Perhaps I could of had a little skit of some elaborate death before you wake up but I would never change the main idea of the ending.

Yeah the terrain was done in StarEdit. Starforge and SCMDraft weren't out when I compleated this map. So things like having all the walls on the second floor be the same tile took a while. A little thing that people don't really notice but i think it helps the hall look endless and helps give you the feeling of being having no landmarks to identify to. Also i made sure to remove pretty much every computer terminal that was put on the wall.

I'm just wondering... did you put a certian amount of music in there to make your map large enough to be 666kb? If you ever log on Starcraft you could play HotH with me. happy.gif

probably not. he probably used .wav files of certain size and imported it into his map and purposely made the 666kb. if you're not talking about the 666kb then i don't know what you're talking about. ohmy.gif

I'm sorry I don't do request...

Ha Ha anyways, the 666kb was a luck thing at first. When I was nearing compleation I noticed one of my unprotected versions was 666kb exactly. I know that GUEdits protection compresses the map so I decided that I wasn't going to add anymore sound effects and make the map be 666kb when finished.
When I finished the map was actually 662 kbs after compressed but adding a 4kbs or even smaller wav increased the size too much (weird yess). So I litterally just added a ton of triggers inorder to get the extra 4kb i needed. I belive if you look in my unprotected version under force four there a whole lot of triggers that do nothing under force 4. I copied them enouth to max the string limit and alot more after that.

Yeah exellent map. Maybe (U)Bolt_Head should make a sequel where it could continue where it left off instead of it being a dream. But since I didn't win yet I don't know the ending... cry.gif

Thats like starting a map out by saying HA HA I FOOLED YOU! And of course people playing the map who have beat the original would be a minority.

Hehe! It'd still be a great idea. Or maybe you could just make House of the Haunted 2 which doesn't continue #1's story but is a complete story of it's own. And this time it isn't just a dream...

IT'S A... NIGHTMARE

Yea I remember playing this map. Its pretty scary and I have never beaten it. I do remember though, when walking around with my civ in the begining, thinking somehting was going to pop out at me cause I would just be roaming around when suddenly a player died. I remember (being a newb way back when) roaming around for like an hour being lost and seeing nobody and having some on die every 5 seconds. I died in the basement....
