Staredit Network -> Concepts -> Time travel gameplay
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Ice_Inferno_X3 on 2006-02-19 at 23:20:59
Along with my other rpg, Xythar Saga, ive been making this rpg temporary called Time Travel RPG (sucky name i know but its gonna be changed.) Anyway, I just wanted to know if a time travel type of gameplay would be received well.

It's not a simple gimmick though...basically the way gameplay works is you can slow down time and speed up time (gameplay speeds up) and you can go to different time periods and the main town changes.

In some sections of the rpg you run into you're past/future self and they aid you. The storyline ties it all together but would you guys like an rpg like this? im just asking because I've been making this rpg for about a year and i lost all motivation on it. so input plz?

I've always had the idea as a basis for a map, but never used it. It is a very cool thing to do if you can pull it off well.

If you do the terrain, story and most importantly the triggers well, this map would be well received, I think a lot of people would like to be able to speed up/slow down time in the game, you should definitly make the map.

Sounds nice, i tried to do something like that once, but i ran out of locations, so i just quit and its somewhere in my comp. Hmmm.... GOOD LUCK!! happy.gif

How the hell can you slow down speed?

Im guessing EUD triggers, cant remember if they still work or if they will still work in the next patch but EUD triggers could change game speed.

If you could somehow get into the game options with triggers, I guess you could change the speed in there, but that's probably not the type of speed change that you were looking for. Sounds tough trigger-wise, but I think that it would end up to be a pretty fun game.

Well, EUDs could but actions were disabled, however with conditions still, you could have slowing the speed down an ability assuming it's single player. You could simply set the speed down and then it will detect that it's slower, and drain your mana. Obviously it couldn't be reset by triggers if you were out of mana, but I'm sure they could make something bad happen.

I like the concept, u could probably do the whole time travel thing by speeding up or slowing down a countdown timer. And the timer serves for time of day. In that respect u can even rewind time ya know? Anyway just a brink of an idea, take it or leave it. Hope you come through with and idea for this map. Goodluck

How about splitting the world map into different parts. Each part will be identical except for time changing details such as dead trees, new/old towns, cave-ins, etc. I know it would take some precision and a long time but I bet it could come out cool. Kind of like the whole Dark/Light world thing in A Link to the Past.

Always had that for a thought when trying to experiment with the time theme.
Anyway...when the time theme comes to my mind i keep thinking about chrono trigger tongue.gif. Maybe you can use some ideas like a mobile vehicle that can travel thru time? or maybe add spells like a stop spell to freeze enemies or slow enemies?turn them into undead or age them to become weaker...
just a few of my ideas.

If you dont know how to slow down time, then u should check the tutorials. I use hyper players and stuff to slow down the units or speed them up.
