Staredit Network

Staredit Network -> Terrain -> Holding Cell
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Wilhelm on 2006-02-26 at 00:13:59
As you may or may not know, my old computer broke. My parents recently bought a new computer, and very inconveniently for me, my original Starcraft disk has a large crack in it.

During this big fiasco, I decided I wanted to make a Xenosaga map replicating one of it's dungeons. I've managed to extract enough files from my Brood War Starcraft CD to get Starforge, Staredit, and SCMDraft running, however, since I cannot run Starcraft to test triggers, I will begin this map by creating the various areas in it, as close as Starcraftibly possible to the original Xenosaga.

So, here ye go, a holding cell where MOMO, a young Realian (artificial humans created by humans) girl, is being held captive for the data that her "father" left inside her unconscious mind (she's the prototype of the "100-Series Observational Realians"). The finished product will have three cells and a door of some kind.

It is very blocky, but it will look good if u clean it up

I'm entirely aware of the blockiness, and I will fix it up, but at the moment getting as close to the original is my top priority.

I like it. The door wouldn't work though because you cut some of it off right?

Yes. The doors to the cells are locked in the game originally, so I think I will simply have a unit based door that will be destroyed.

Update: Added third cell, modified door structure and a few other tiles. Staircase piece in the same general style.

Nice...
I have a few questions though.
Are the cell doors walkable? they look kinda narrow.
How many sprites did these take?

I actually used units. As for walkablble, yeah, one the of the tiles I'm using there is actually walkable. The cell uses 48 units, the stairs use twelve units and one sprite.

How did u make them out of units? Plz teach me.

All you have to do is take the grey wall, replace the bottom tiles that have any of the substructure terrain on them with floor tiles, then use SCMDraft 2's fine grid with "Units Snap To Grid" to line them up with the tiles.

I looked at Xenosaga's cells and tried to recreate them as best as Starcraftibly possible.
