Void Arena

[Specifications]
Players: 2-6
Tileset: Space
Dimensions:128x128
Type: Arena

[History]
Well this one is pretty based on my other arena map but with more changes/fixes and possibly more features.
[Instructions/Objective]
First everyone picks up to 5 abilities/spells, after the players have finish choosing, each player gets control of a Battle Warrior(Zealot). You have 5 lives on the leaderboard,Kill your opponent's zealot or be the last zealot standing to win. Plan your tactics well.
[The Arena]
The Arena is made up of many separate platforms with beacons on them. Walk into a beacon to move to another platform. The arena can provide advantages and disadvantages so use that wisely.
[Abilities/Features]
There are 14 abilities displayed but only 5 for choosing so plan and choose wisely. You can combine them and use one after another for a good combination casting. The abilities are the main support for the zealots victory. Abilities consists adds damage, offensive,defensive, and other effects. They can also counteract each other in a sense. For an example, a player restoring shields and can also be broken.
(Shuttle Casting system)
-When you choose abilities they will be in your shuttle. Drop the units to cast the ability.

Ooh! You're actually making part 2, cool! The first one was fun with the only exception that it took awhile to recover mana. If I could make a suggestion, it's that you increase the rate of mana. Sometimes, it feels as if everyone is playing hide and seek to recover mana.

i'll take that suggestion in mind...
i can tell you the arena is a bit different...there are elevations in platforms that might change tactics a bit...

anyway the arena triggers and setup is pretty much all done with the exception i want to make small touch ups on it to make it better but it looks fine for now. Running and hiding is a bit harder to do...

i'm just thinking up some spell ideas. There are a few old ones and some modified ones from the first...but there will be more new ones...with many abilities you can plan some of your tactics well...

Shadowlion is still in the making..this is just a side project i wanted to do....

So is that what the first Void wars is all about? i wastnt around to play it

The first Void Wars was basically a FFA map in which players are in an arena trying to kill each other. Last player standing wins. The unique thing about the map was that you were able to select up to 4 (was it 4?) skills from a set of (I forgot how many) skills and use them to achieve victory.

yea you were able to choose 4...you can choose 5 in this one...

i've changed the title to void arena...not too flashy but it seems ok to me...
the different levels of elevations in the platform would add some gameplay to it i think...

ADDITION:
i got some updates...
the map is nearly complete...
10 abilities are in for the choosing, while there are 4 slots left for more brainstorming for ideas...

the map is looking pretty interesting if i do say so myself, but it all depends on who else plays it...
there are a few minor things with 2 of the abilities to take care of. they are both kinda wierd and buggy, yet acts like a part of the game with a mind of its own...
i will try to fix it to work it the way i want it to, or ill just replace them with new ideas.

anyway i need at least 2 people that can help me test, of course you will get credit for helping me test;

ADDITION:
well im still working on this map, and i'd say its about 75% complete, 12 out of 14 abilities are in, besides those updates, im planning on spiffing it up more probably add some arena effects or add some random power ups to add more gameplay...
probably completing a map is a rare event these days aint it? w00t.gif

In a case where there's more than 2 teams, give an advantage to people who fight, otherwise if 2 of them fight, the one that doesn't fight has an advantage, and I think it's dumb to give the people who do nothing an advantage.

well i think its too late about adding in different game modes,the game is in deep, don't really wanna split the triggers up yet..., but i do want to add more options or gameplay. like random arena events,like computer spawns random enemies,random power ups, etc...but i'm trying to think up of something more that has a nice effect...

so i am planning on making different modes for it...just not on the same map..

anyway map is nearly done...about 80% complete. one more ability to put in(which im still trying to think up of a good one) and the rest of the gameplay for the arena field like trying to make it have a nicer look, added things and doodads or something...but im still thinking on what to add

i sometimes visit east every so often, but i occasionally have a little bit of lag on east...


the map is nearly completed as said before but still want to add something in it more interesting...not too overpowered or something useless...

i can post something like a demo later in this thread and you can try it out once i have all the abilities put in...but i still want to add something more...

i have some idea abilities i might put in but not sure which but im kind of debating i want to put something more in making it real good...of course i dont want to put an ability that might disrupt the balance(like nothing useless or not overpowered)

some ideas are like but not quite...
invincibility - most invincibility spells i think are pretty much overpowered unless have something to balance it...not taking anything damage and not being able to counter it seems it is overpowered....

disable - this ability can temporary disables nearby oppoent abilitys making them unusable, can make an opponent frustrated of not being able to use an ability when he needs it...also think this is overpowered of not being able to counter it...

hallucinations/decoy - this maybe, but think this might be a little useless...

an ability i would want to put in would being able to counter it yet be useful/effective in a way...so feel free to suggest an idea i might put it in or if i thought one up already...

i have just added the last selectable ability for the map...its not very original butsits just a measly kamikaze ability with some extra touches.if someone suggests an idea i like i might replace it...

map is about 90% done now, all that needs to be done is clean up my trigger/comments or organize it a little better so i can look at them more easier a little, add some credits, add some arena music, and do whatever else that needs spiffing then its completed....

ADDITION:
This map is now 99.8% completed, abilities, triggers, and the terrain are all completed and cleaned up. The only thing that's missing is the music, but still thinking of a good game track to put in. i will add in the switch to turn it off and on, but music shouldn't effect the gameplay...
i have extra ideas for the map that aren't put in but might will as an updated version, but for now, it is still fine to play without them.

so download it on the first post, play it, and give some suggestions, feedback, bugs, and maybe a little criticism but just tone it down a bit.

Props to this 1 shadow, spells are awesome and it's pretty well perfected. I'd rate the fun factor about 8/10, you should upload this1 to the SEN DLDB and maybe put it up on map spotlight, it's really good.

Anyway, keep up the good work

Yeah, I'd say upload it then submit it for review(in the review tab up top) and see what rating it gets from the reviewer. But defenitely put it up to map showcase, you might even find more ideas to add into it. Goodwork shadow, keep it up!

they said its supposed to take up to a week to put it in the dldb, but its only been a few days so i'll just wait..

i updated the map a bit
-added some music
-fixed a few unexpected bugs
-added some other features


ADDITION:
the map is now approved in the dldb, but i just updated it yesterday with a few extra things...i enjoyed playing my map with a full house...went pretty wacky...

anyway the updated version has a looping music file to add some atmosphere to it...something you can listen to when yoiur on the arena...unfortunatelly for right now, i'm still trying to make a turn on-off music switch for it...i have every player using wait seconds and some other things like death counters mixed in so it wont be too easy...if you don't want to listen to it then you can just turn off the speakers...

just give me some feedback,suggestions,any bugs/glitches and i might add it in...but try to enjoy it for now

ADDITION:
i updated the map again, i fixed a few more glitches...
i am planning on changing the arena music for a future update which might be soon...think some people say it was kidna annoying but i'll see what track i can fit it in...or if people rather not want music in it at all...im not going to be sticking a huge wav file in. 500kb is the max limit size i set it to be.

well i cant really thik of an uber track to put in and i think id prefer this track
you got over something else but "im all ears" really , I think the wav to top it
would have to be some megadeth or pantera .but i say that for everything so
dont listen to me really man.Hey who else thinks this map would be just perfect
wiat a little mod which you could use weapons, comeon its Doom style, yeah your
gameplay is good at the moment but if there were two diffenrt versions of your
one map of void arena i d think it would get alot of popularity, comeone u got the
arena right or maybe just a few touchups, but for the ppl who dont like the orignal

well, after a few days i have finally updated the map again.
i have added a mode select instead of it being ffa all the time.
in this version,

-edited some of the abilities and the cost, also some abilities so they don't affect teammates
-fixed a few bugs and glitches
-removed the music
-added 2 modes(team 2v2v2 and 3v3)
the 2v2v2 option will still interpret it as 2v2 if there aren't any other 2 players.

i guess it wasn't such a bad idea to add in a team mode, i have played this in public and seen things get very crazy yet fun and enjoyable.

still i think there are a few bugs or glitches...the only one so far is the victory condition not firing, but otherwise everything else works in full function. i am still trying to fix it so once i do, i'll update it. you can tell you have won when you have killed all your enemies. the shuttle place also makes a good leaderboard where players are still around.

so if you play it, post any feedback after. there are still plenty of room in the map so there might be more updates, more modes, more features such as powerups, or more abilities.

Well i have joined this game with chrono_seifer and alot of public people said it was still boring. I think the arena should be sized down a little. All i do is wait at a spawn point and own them =p

i don't why you keep picking on this map...but i do know that people have different likings to a type of map...if you don't like it just don't play and give feedback just because you don't enjoy playing it, ok? all you have done was said this was boring or something, and i added modes as suggested and you still pick on it with one thing or another... i know there are people have the same style as you so i'll just let it be...

but for now, i'm just trying to make this map fun and still expanding on it. i'm trying fix the bugs and glitches as well as putting in more ideas...i do plans for more different modes, such as a a CTF, survival, or what else i can think of that's possible.
