The founder of Dominos pizza, Tom Monaghan is building the town of Ave Maria in Florida that will be built under Catholic Principles.
Some of the things that will be differnt from other towns is that:
-There will be no selling of condoms or birth control pills
-No selling of Porn Magazines
-No X Rated Channels
Even though the town is under the Catholic principles there will still be a public school, as well as Catholic ones.
What do you think of this town? And do you think there will be less crime since its under an extreme religious influence?
I think that this town will attract a lot of devout Catholics. No offence to people of other religions or such but i think that the crime rate will be less than other places. But i guess we will have to wait and see how it turns out.
Yah, this will probably attract a few devout catholics. I imagine it would be boring to live somewhere like that, thoughl.
I expect the crime rate will go down, because most devout catholics aren't exactly criminals and other people probably won't go there. By the way, how large is this town?
Makes a nice consolidated target.
I have a feeling that the birth rate might explode though. No contraception? A bad idea if you ask me.
It may be illegal to sell contraceptions in that city, but there's nothign from stopping you from going to another city, buy them, and come back.
Well, the thing is, it's supposed to attract devout Catholics.
No sex before marriage is a main thing. And if everybody is Catholic, and all follow their religion that much, I suppose there might not be any =/
Well Tom Monaghan said he didnt want it to be only a Catholic town. He said he wanted diversity.
diversity...in the town with catholic values...making-sense-o-meter going down...
Odds are, as you said in your first post, it will attract many Catholics, or people interested in a community of that type...
And no porno, x-rated theaters, etc etc will probably seem good, but someone's gonna go there and it's gonna turn bad. Eventually.
What will probably happen is just that a bunch of non-Catholic towns will spring up around it.
Isn't ...every town a non-catholic town?
I'm using the term 'non-Catholic' because this one is specifically Catholic, or at least Catholic-dominant. And if you go to Italy or some other central European country, you're guaranteed to find Catholic-majority towns.
Every chance meeting would be filled with hi-diddly-ho neighbourino!

It sounds like a pretty wierd experiment, but how would they enforce the rules? Would there be people checking, or an honor system?
Want I think will happen is the town will gradually lose money, crime will pop up, they will make a casino and it will end up as another Las Vegas.
Is Florida allowed to have casinos? Because the town isn't seperate from Florida laws.
The indians are allowed casinos. I've been to one.
I'm not sure where this town is being built. If it's in southern florida, I absolutely gurantee many lower class latin catholics will move there. Making the land value go down. The dominos guy is maybe expecting to have land value like the place I'm at right now. (House got appraised yesterday, went up 50k in only 2 months O_O) If he builds it in the south, and with those rules, he's gonna be in for a big surprise.
If he's smart, he'll stay away from commericalizing the town too much.
I think it's pretty stupid... Recently, this ex-terrorist in South Carolina, near Greenville County, opened up a "Holy Islamville." The government is worried about it being a base for terrorism or something. Pretty funny but I think the Ave Maria town is pretty stupid. How about they just move to Canada where Roman Catholic is the major religion like Christianity is in the U.S.
It way, it could be good for land value to go down for a period. Becuase then (it may take 5+ years) large companies/wealthy companies will start buying that land for cheap prices and build nice apartment buildings and nice little shopping centers (not a mall, a place where theres a video store, cafe, drug store etc)
That whats happening to the area my brother just moved into in north seattle. Land prices dropped, nice companies move in and make the area very upscale.

Catholics are christians

I know but they have very little differences... I still stand by my statement...
I'm surprised there's been no discrimination lawsuits yet. The rights activists must really be slacking on this one.
That's why I hate neo-crat lefties. Why should they infringe on his right to do something like that, ya know? Anyways, I think its an interesting idea, and is something to be watched and monitored. I can see something very 1984-esque happening.
They can't sue because they don't discriminate other religons.
It'd be a pretty stuid lawsuit.
And the Indians can make Casino's because they own the reservation, which certain US laws don't apply to.
Can you imagen how the lawsuit would go... it would make people kill themselves...
