I'm just starting this as a little thing all moderators should keep in mind to make them operate more independantly and professionally. I know this is currently very small, right now, but fear not, this will grow as time goes on. Please post up suggestions as you wish.
INTRO // GENERALWelcome to the Moderator's Handbook. This handy creature can help in times when you need wisdom and guidance.
These are the rules. Know them, enforce them.http://www.staredit.net/1337v5/?p=faq&do=view&id=2http://www.staredit.net/1337v5/?p=faq&do=view&id=3WARNING MEMBERS1:
ALWAYS read the member's warn logs before warning them. There is a slight chance that another a moderator has already warned them for the same post or offense.
2:
ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS include a quote or link to the offending post and
state the violation. This is very important because members can and will view their warn logs.
3:
ALWAYS notify the member with a private message. Copy and paste what you've entered into the warn log, that's what I do.
4: If an offense is very minor, give a verbal warning and a small fine. These small offenses still have to be logged so they can add up.
5:
Don't be afraid to warn people. The idea of the system is that the 20%s will add up and their actions will have consequences. Playing the bad guy isn't always easy, but if cleaning out the crap means being a hardass, so be it.
6:
Don't be afraid to warn someone based on who they are. Some people may think their seniority, mapping skill, penis size, or whatever may place them above the rules. This is not so.
7: When suspending someone, add "
Suspended for X days" to the warn log. It isn't put in automatically.
8: You may warn multiple times (more than 20%) for very serious offenses.
9: Don't be afraid to give out suspensions for multiple offenses of the same type or serious offenses.
10: When someone hits 100%, please notify an administrator. We will handle the warn reset and dish out punishment based on the nature and number of offenses.
11: If more serious action needs to be taken regarding a member, PM an administrator.
SPAMMING1: When warning a spammer, fine them minerals and posts - those are the benefits of spamming.
2:
If someone continuously posts crap in a forum, tell me about it. I can levi a ban on their posting in that forum.
FLAMING1: If you're diving into a flame war, warn both sides of the argument regardless of who started it. The "he started it" argument is a childish way to avoid taking responsibility for your actions.
2: Invisible posts and include links to posts when warning someone for specific posts. Evidence helps.
MISC1:
Double Accounts - If you suspect double accounts, tell Global Moderators or Administrators. If you have the permissions, run IP checks. When in doubt, post a topic here or PM Moose.
2:
If a spam or flame topic can be salvaged and saved, save it instead of locking it!3:
After penalizing someone for a post violation, get rid of the post! This can be done via editing, deletion, or invisibilization, but it has to be done to avoid double warns.
4: If someone is causing trouble in a certain forum, tell me so that I can ban them from the forum.
