I think he realizes it doesn't look like a crab right now and that's why he's asking for help... it sounds like a pretty difficult task but with some of the terrain people around here maybe someone can come up with something nice

It holds resemblance to a crab (I know I couldn't make one that decent 
), I don't know if a person would just be able to guess what animal it is though. Try and see if you can't do anything with the claws. They seem rather small compared to the rest of the body. Good job though.
And yes, if you filled in the middle spot, I could see it being the top of a alligator mouth.

That thing in no way resembles a crab! It's a temple in the shape of a crab with one claw that looks like it got run over by a dumptruck!
