Do mods cause viruses in any way? Because i find them interesting and i might want to make them. Also how do you play them? There not a regular sc file are they. I remember a friend of mine made me do somthing first.

Alright. To play a mod, you either need to download the .EXE from someone else, or get a program called MPQDraft, which you can use to either launch an .MPQ file or create your own .EXE that you can run by double-clicking on it.

If you're looking to start making mods, here are the programs that you are most likely to need:

- MPQDraft (above)
- WinMPQ (which is basically WinZip that works with .MPQ files instead [that SC can read])
- TBLPad (which you use to edit any and all in-game unit/upgrade/weapon/anything text)
- RetroGRP (this is for adding your own graphics into the game)
- DatEdit (for editing units, weapons, portraits, flingys, sprites and images' technical stats)
and
- ICE (which edits how SC handles all the pictures and graphics in-game)

Once you've got these, find a simple tutorial and start doing it. You may need a few more programs, but these are the main ones. smile.gif

And no, mods don't generally cause viruses.

I would recommend, though, that you take anything found online--unless it's been certified, like the moderators do with submissions here, or from someone you know--with a grain of salt and make sure to virus check it...

I'm thinking of making a sort of "Modding Starter Set" with these programs and a few others. I find it a little annoying to have to look around for everything. ermm.gif

Why ICE? IceCC works alot better if you can get it to work in the C:\ drive tongue.gif

Well, beginners usualy prefer ICE because they like having a GUI, and I myself still use it, because of GRP previews and a few organization problems I had.
