Report, edit, etc...Posted by Jello-Jigglers on 2006-03-20 at 12:35:37
(FYI: I have decided to make a zelda:oot as well as this one. The tread will be Zelda: Ocarina of Time)

Zeda RPG
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

K heres the deal. I am making a Zelda RPG based mainly on Ocarina of time, but with a new plot and different characters(still using Link Sariah and Gannon). Oops, i'm getting ahead of myself here... I guess Ill go by listing stuff now;

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Progress
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Ideas
•A fully functional Store
•A fully functional Upgrade Center
•Working on a Random Heart and Magic system(1/24 chance)
•Working on a C system (such as the one on the N64 Controller)
------Works like this; You have 4 different 'C' buttons(up,down,left,right). When
------you load a 'C', you then are given a Civ that all you have to do is move
------him to the 'Use' location and it will use that item for you.(such as weapons,
------spells, and items(common and special). This system is supposed to make it
------easier for common items to be used such as heath. You can Ctrl select the
------Civ given, and you can use it over and over again and you don't have to
------load the 'C' button until you want to switch.(reason i am doing this is to
------make this feel like the real N64 game.
•Different 'weapons' (ie. Sword is Zealot, Bow is Ghost, Bomb is reaver)
-----Most likely 6 different weapons that you can obtain
•Information pads as in-game tutorials
•A 'Start Screen'
------Similar to N64 Ocarina of Time, when you turn on the 'Start Screen', you can
------change your 'C' buttons and even use items that will begin to effect when
------you exit the 'Start Screen'. Turning on the start screen will basically pause
------the game rendering you and you enemies harmless. You cannot move Link
------while in the 'Start Screen'
•A Key/Legend
------Because some of the buildings are doodads, there is a key telling you which
------doodads are which buildings.
•An Inventory Holding Cell
•A minimum of 7 Towns
•Fairy Fountains
•AI scripts controlling non-boss enemies.
•Possibly special attacks(ie. That spinning sword move in real Zelda OoT)
•Anything else you think I should add biggrin.gif

-Terrain
•Tons of Doodads to pull you into the game and make it seem realistic
•Isometric terrain that flows really nice and blends with doodads.
•35-40% Completed

-Units
•Carefully chosen units to match real game characters best
•Colored names matching unit speech(ie. Gannon is red/ his text is red)
•Tons of different Friends and Foes with specific name coloring for identification

-Triggers
•Lots of trigger work you dont even want to know about biggrin.gif

-Towns
•Most have Shops and Upgrade Centers
•Some have wells and Fairy Fountains
•Town names;
------Kokiri, Mandella, Lexington, Hyrule, Undecided others.

-Wavs
•More than 30 wavs!!!
•Really gets you into the game!
•Wavs such as when you open a door or a treasure chest and battle music!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Specifications
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Players
------(1human-7computer)
•Player 1*link*(Human)
•Player 2*Zelda*(Computer)
•Player 3-8*Ganon's forces and Ganon(computer

-Map tileset
•Jungle Tileset

-Map size
•256-256

-There are also treasure chests that give random items!

*~Lights~*

------Lights activate when you get within xxx of a light(pretty close proximity)
-Maps light the passage ways so you don't have to activate lights
-Most passage ways, tunnels, temples(ect...) have maps(you have to find them)

*~Kill $$$~*

-After you kill a foe, you have a 1/8 chance of getting a single rupee
-1/24 chance of getting five rupes
-1/64 chance of getting ten rupes

-What's new in your map that others have not done before?
•The 'C' system

First off, good luck on your map. Hope you finish it. C button looks really cool and orginial. However...I think you might run into a few errors in your map...

*~Towns~*

    -Most have Shops and Upgrade Centers
    -Some have wells and Fairy Fountains
    -Town names;
        -Kokiri, Mandella, Lexington, Hyrule, Undecided others.

If youre making a OoT map, you cant very well just make up names to cities! The Kokiri Village where you start is accurate, but there is no Mandella or Lexington in that game though...Theres a Korikaro Village, Goron City, Zora's Fountain, Hyrule, Guerdos Fortress and Lon Lon Ranch if you want cities/towns.

QUOTE(Jello-Jigglers @ Mar 20 2006, 11:35 AM)

*~Characters~*

    -Link  Main
    -Sariah  Links Friend
    -Grandma Links Grandma and Advisor
    -Gannon Evil Wizard(Main Bad Guy)
    -Gannon's Minion Easiest Foe
    -Gannon's Spy Grandma's Captor(boss)
    -Korchra Kokiri's Wizard
    -Tateroni Guard First Boss

Link for a main character is a good start yes...along with Sariah, but Link didnt have a Grandma in OoT. Also, Im sure if you googled OoT you could find a list of enemies so you wouldnt have to put Ganon's Henchman for every enemy name. Ganon didnt really have a spy, and Link didnt have a grandma to be captured! Im not quite sure how you could work this into your map when its completely off base from the game...Also, Korkiri didnt have a wizard and the first boss was Gohma, the giant spider inside the Deku Tree.

Unless you really felt you wanted to incorporate these into your map, I wouldnt. If you want an advisor use Navi, your fairy. Then if something big was happening, a text message could say: "Navi: Hey!" or something, and you could use your top C button to listen to what he wanted.

This map looks like it has a lot of potential, but if youre basing it off of OoT, try to stick to OoT, otherwise players can get rater confused.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Jello-Jigglers on 2006-03-20 at 13:14:26
I said its based on OoT not an exact copy. The point was to make the game play similar and not the story. Its cool though... I knew just about everything you said, but you didn't know so its fine. Btw why would anyone make and exact copy of a game if they could just go and whip out there old N64 and play with better graphics, more realism, and more capable game aspects.

But maybe you interpreted differnetly oh well, i'm glad you think it has lots of potential. biggrin.gif

Why? Because its fun to make maps and fun to play them on SC. And prehaps someone didnt have OoT or an N64(you cant really go out and buy one anymore). They could experience what the game is like.

But of course, doing it based on OoT gives you complete freedom, and you can do whatever the hell you want, which is always nice happy.gif

One question though: How are you going to implement the start screen? And how will Link not be able to move...? Ok thats two questions I guess.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Jello-Jigglers on 2006-03-20 at 14:22:24
Sorry, i kinda got on the defensive side there...

anyways, i already have the start screen all set up. It kinda works like this;

You move a civ over to a scourge named '<--Off_ON-->'

Then it gives all 'link' to P.2(P.2 is Nuetral)
Set invincibility state for all link owned by P.2 to enabled
center screen on 'Cpad Center'
Display 'Inventory On'
set Inventory
center all civ owned by p.1 at on to on
center all scourge owned by p.2 at on to off

then when you want to turn it off its like this;

you move a civ to the scourge at off

give all link owned by p.2 to p.1
set invincibility state for all link owned by p.1 to disabled
center screen on Link(location link always centers on link)
Display 'Inventory Off'
clear Inventory
center all civ owned by p.1 at off to off
center all scourge at off to on

It also has some sound.
well, you get the gist i hope. Thats just a rough little deal, do you want me pm you the map so you can see how it all is put together?

Theres some problems currently with acctually using the 'c's im not sure how to fix at the moment, but its just a minor bug i can figure out. everything else is in order.

sorry again for kinda getting heated...

Hey i found the first error of this OoT Map. Sarias name is spelled SARIA not Sariah!, lol and i think you should base it off of Ocarina of Time. because if your gonna use SOME of the things from it. You should use All of the things from it. Taking some stuff from a Game and making up the Rest..it wont work sorry.

I Spelled ganon Gannon also. Its just to make it a little different from Oot. If you read the earlier comments, i want the same game play,

QUOTE
but with a new plot and different characters(still using Link Sariah and Gannon)

Anyways, its just to separate it from Oot. I'm trying my best Ethic! smile.gif

I'm going to write up the plot that i have so far developed.

ADDITION:
Actually, Let me finish up some loose ends and ill post a demo biggrin.gif !

Hey man if you need any terrain help im here for you. Also i got an idea, Have bushes that your slash and randomize hidden items!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Jello-Jigglers on 2006-03-20 at 22:13:52
Yeah i was thinking about the bushes, but i'm not sure what 'unit' i would use, plus, don't they regenrate in Oot? so i would have to use locations for that, and i am gonna be really tight on locations at the end... So for now the bush deal is a no go, unless there is a location-less trigger for that...
Right now im putting in the In Game Tutorials so that the demo can be pretty close to the real thing.

Heres a list of the stuff i'm putting in and what order;

Tuts
Buying(in the shop)
Randomizing hearts and rupes
Put in different weapons(such as Bow and Slingshot)
Make a hard copy of the Demo and post it here! biggrin.gif

PS i just checked the forums, and there are 2 maps in production that have like 500 comments each!!! what the heck. I have like 10 what am i doing wrong?

This map sounds good.. Seems like it would be a fairly decent map wink.gif

The reason why the other threads have more replies, because they have been around longer then yours happy.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DoomGaze on 2006-03-21 at 03:28:27
Hm...that 'C' system sounds quite original. I just hope switching the C button would be close to instantaneous, as during battles, switching commands quickly requires crucial and quick timing. Or maybe that's just me.

And I don't suggest the enemies to be named Gannon's Henchmen and such. Players find the game much more interesting when the enemies have unique names and such. It's just a sort of visual appeal, even though the name of the units have little significance (excluding the heroes and important NPCs, of course).

I don't know about you but...twenty five wavs seems a bit excessive. You don't want to player to be downloading the entire soundtrack here. If you manage to fit all the wavs into a 1MB map or so, then great. But excessive download times really turn off the audience. Well, it depends on what audience you're trying to appeal to. SEN, B.net, or both? But still, I'm discouraging you from collecting too many sounds, just because.

Response to threads depend on the map genre, the title appeal, popularity of the creator, and of course, the age of the thread. Looks like you have quite a ladder to climb.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kupo on 2006-03-21 at 03:50:29
Does it really matter how much WAV's he has, It is a single player RPG isn't it?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Moogle on 2006-03-21 at 03:52:46
I would of thought HP System wouldn't be normal unit's could easy do Virtual Hitpoints system and make it like a heart using a box somewhere with crystal's shaped as a heart and when link took damage from enemy unit under him would take damage could randomize it and depending what is how much damage was taken but thats just and idea nothing special.

So far map sounds fun and enjoyable somewhat like Zelda games, Yes as Doomgaze said try be creative with the names that way people will enjoy map more since names are not so dull. happy.gif;

Good Luck with the map i'll be checking in and out here and there.

Sorry i let so many comments build up...

(Answered in order of replies)

DoomGaze;

This is mainly for just SEN(since it only has 1 human slot) so the size doesn't really matter unless people that have sucky HD's dont have enough room(thats pathetic if you cant handle 3mb's)
Gonna rename some of the units due to many requests.(ideas accepted)(list as such; "unit/name")
Im trying to make the 'c' buttons work as fast as possible and mabey make them at the top of the triggers so they fire first.(will have HT's going so it should be pretty fast)

p.s. Dont know what NPC's are im guessing Non Player Computers???

Ethic;

Thats what i thought

Moogle;

Gonna rename and i hope you like the demo biggrin.gif (trying for March 25)
Can't really understand the part about the virtual heath, but i think ive already got lots of ideas going(thanks!) smile.gif

GG.Pe4nut;

If you want me to get it out faster, you can give me ideas(terrain/unit/trigger wise)
I hope you like it too. biggrin.gif

lll;

I get them all over the place. (here, newgrounds(dont suggest to under 18) and lots of other places)
theres alot of remixes at ocremix.org(i think thats the right website)
Also just search search.com for Zelda sounds or Zelda wavs.
p.s. it took a long time smile.gif . just have to try tons of different searches and websites

Back to what i was gonna say;

Im aimming for march 25 for the demo/test.

I can put the sounds on the dldb(download database) if you want me 2. it might take a lot longer than march 25 though to make sure they are small and same volume(need to fix in map also)

I was thinking about it and a Heart system is gonna take lots of work, and might not work to my expectations, so i might have to take it out cry.gif sad.gif cry.gif
(can still leave in magic bottles)

Map Progress;

Terrain-40%
Locations-50ish%
Doodads-40%
Triggers-35ish%
Tutorials-65%
C's-99%
Using items-20%
Obtaining items-10%
Store-50%
Upgrade Center-75%
Intro-99.99%(might change)
Start of Game-100%(unless i change intro)
Story Line-35%(in progress)
Preplaced Units- 35%

I was also wondering how i sould format all of my text, i decided to postpone text triggers until i figure this out due to the faxt that i dont wanna change halfway through.

So im gonna have a poll deal here it is;

Vote A B C or D
(poll closes 15th of April)

A-

Link: Hi Grandma!

B-

(allies will have yellow text, enemies will have red text, and link will have white text)

Hi Link

C-

Link:
Hi Grandma!

D-

(in white)
Link Says: Hi Grandma!
(in grey)
*Link Thinks: What the HECK!*

Tell me your oppinion please! Im thinking no to B and no to D, but it all depends

(if there is some other format you think is BETTER(i dont want a different format if its crappy biggrin.gif ), just pm me the format following this format (<--Ha funny how that works out!)

Format-

(color if it effects)
Style of text using spaces and or character specification(ie Link:)

If you use spaces and the # of spaces matters, please specify a space count enclosed in ().

Thanks!

p.s. i'll try really hard for the Demo date!(i can't promise much) mellow.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Capt_Stiles on 2006-03-22 at 16:40:07
I say E, which is C and B combined. Use C but have Link be white, enemies red, and allies yellow. Also, it can be easier to distinguish if people's names have one color and their text is another color. i.e.

Link: Hi Grandma!

Grandma: Hello Link.

That may help, but can turn around and bite a limb off if youre not careful. All this text shouldnt be a majorly huge portion of your game though. Link doesnt talk all that much in Zelda games. In fact, now that I think about it, Link never talks in Zelda games. You have your work cut out for you! happy.gif
