Those two are probably your only two options.

I suppose you could try BlitzBasic or DarkBasic too, but, anything like that I wouldn't recommend. I would say search google for "Free 2d engine". If it's well made you probably wont need all that much programming language background, but, it'd still be better to have.

In all honesty, I'd say learn a programming language, and get a good free engine off the internet if you don't want to make your own.

You could try Multimedia Fusion, but its not free. You can try the trial though, its a very powerful program.

Blender works pretty well for that type of thing, though I hear that for 2D applications, newer versions do some annoying stuff with creating perspective, so you might want to try older ones and compare.

Why not Game Maker? You can have full customizability and the programming language GM uses are very similar to C++. There are tons of examples to make a platform game in forums.gamemaker.nl wink.gif

Why do you want to make a video game on the consoles? If you want to be a game maker, you must have at least one year experience in coding and scripts and you must be highly skilled at math.

Here is an example from Blizzard hiring up employees:

Lead Tools Programmer

learn to program n00b!!11

But really, you won’t find really any free game makers. To make a game… You need like a lot of people to do certain things, but if you’re looking to make a game like… you could do with flash then google it.

Gamemaker is too complicated for me.

Here is a site if you like 2d games. I don't think you can make them multi-player though. I started out with this just to get a feel and an idea on my new game im making with C++.

Game Maker is a program that allows you to make exciting computer games, without the need to write a single line of code. Making games with Game Maker is a lot of fun. Using easy to learn drag-and-drop actions, you can create professional looking games within very little time.

You can make games with backgrounds, animated graphics, music and sound effects, and even 3d games! And when you've become more experienced, there is a built-in programming language, which gives you the full flexibility of creating games with Game Maker. What is best, is the fact that Game Maker can be used free of charge.

You can do anything you want with the games you produce, you can even sell them.
