Many of us a geeky teenagers.
One of the things geeky teenagers dream of doing one day is designing a video game of some sort.
This is a thread where we can discuss the different idea's we've had for games we want to create and bounce ideas off each other in general.
One last thing, don't claim to have been the first one to come up with something. It's irrelevant and impossible to prove.

Here's a game I want to make at some point that I haven't gone into detail on that much:
I want to make an FPS RTS hybrid at some point.
It would work like an RTS but the people playing the game on the RTS level would be able to create "heroes" (kinda of the wrong term considering it's an FPS) a la warcraft III. Besides building barracks to create bots, they would also create items. These items would range from large amount of grenades for bots and humans to equip themselves with, to weapons and armor and finally vehicles.
On the FPS level the humans would sit in a lobby and when someone created a "hero" they'd join the game they were created in. Of course just like warcraft III the heroes would be able to respawn (for a fee).
Some weapons, items and vehicles would be created in very small amounts and would be made for heroes.
Like a normal RTS to get the good stuff you need to research, and to research you need to find resources.

This game would also be duplicated in space in a manner similar to gate88 (google it). This would probably be easier to create if I were working with a small team.
To translate to space shooter terminology you just replace all the items and vehicles with powerups of various sorts. It'd be cool to see a small hero ship take down a bunch of big bot controlled ships due to some kind of stealth ability rockets.

Wow, that sounds like a pretty cool idea tongue.gif

Anyway, I've always wanted a virtual reality game that didn't suck. Imagine a virtual reality FPS or RPG, those would be awesome. I assume we're years away from the technology but tell me you wouldn't like to play WoW like that smile.gif But that's not really a game, though sad.gif

Your design sounds good but i am sorry to say, not all of us are geeky teens. Some of us are athletic and are in our last year of Sekundärschule.

RPG (gotta make an RPG at one time wink.gif).

___ (have not thought of a name yet) lives in a peaceful land living out his peaceful life. Everything is good, everything is happy, little pink flowers and puffy blue bunnies (not that happy).
Meh.

*O)FaRTy1billion runs program
"There has been peace in Agrarius for many generations..."
"But now a growing disturbance threatens the fragile peace."
"It is up to one brave warrior to defend these lands."

96x64 Monochrome, FTW!
Not really a "video game".. but it still works!

Edit: My brother got me into computers and programming and game design, just to leave me for farking athletics. >.> Die.

Some of us are geeky and athletic, for instance I program and run Cross Country and Track.

Blarg, sorry for the generalizations, I just saw something somewhere which made me want to make this topic.

The first post is eye catching though.

Why would someone want to post their ideas, so others can steal them?

I've thought of new games a few times before. Most of them would be FPS or MMORPG. Firstly, FPS because it's the type of game that gets you pumped up the most and because it's one of the best games to play with your friends. Second, a MMORPG, because to put it simply, WoW is the game in which I've had the most fun playing the actual game and not chatting around with people in game.

I've never really been a fan of RTS, I think the only RTS games that have interested me are SC, WC2 and Wc3.

>MOved to games

(Screw the capital O, when I write this I always accidentally do it and I'm not going to re-write it this time. It's pretty stupid how I wrote all this for an o)

So they can steal your ideas and claim them their own??

Anyone who needs to steal an idea from some random StarCraft forum probably doesn't have the resources to make a game anyway...

Are you serious Kellimus? Just because you have a concept for a new type of game, does not mean you're going to make one, or sell it =\

And let's face it, I don't think many (future) game designers are going to be visiting this thread.

Also, another thing I'd like is an interactive fighting game. Instead of pressing the x button, you should be able to punch with your fists tongue.gif

Your never going to get anywhere living like that.
I guess it's cool if you don't trust us because you don't know us that well. But you need to trust someone with your ideas. If you don't then they're going to suck. No man is an island or should inspire to that state.

Funny, I had an idea that's basically like the first post.

It would be one huge game, with multiple modules or something. And it would be like some giant war between like 2 or 4 groups. The entire world can be dynamic.

Some players will have gameplay similar to wing commander, some players will have similar gameplay to say, unreal tournament, some players would be soldiers, some players would be merchants, some players would be generals, basically creating plans for these people, RTS style.

However, it'd never work out. (And people would never listen to the generals ;P)

But if it did...it'd be pretty interesting...

Any other idea of mine has probably been done.

Hey bob, if you think gate88 is good, you should add it to our SEN games collection.

Anyway, a game that has some elements you are talking about is Natural-Selection. It's a mod for half-life. Basically, it's humans against aliens. In each map, there are resource spouts, the marine start location and three hive locations. The aliens start with one hive and their abilities increase with more hives.

As for making a game myself, hmm...

Well, I enjoy the first-person camera the most, so that's what I'd use to make my games. I'd like to make a first-person strategy game, but I want to make it so new players don't get owned because they can't aim.

Rather, I'd make it so that aiming is simply looking at your enemy. I'd introduce abilities, tech trees or whatever, but some parts, I'll make it random, so people won't cookie cut like in RTS games.

Then I'd make a realistic FPS, which means NO CROSSHAIRS, NO HEALTH NUMBERS OR AMMO GAUGES! What I'm talking about is the real deal, using ironsights, dying in 2 bullets, etc.

Then I'd make a racing game with lots of stats, more than just the control, accel, speed, that most games today have.

I'd have stuff like: grip, boost, shields, etc.

But I have yet to learn how to code, besides staredit.

i would know that some people who played video games growing up develope a desire to learn on how they work.
anyway, a game i'd design though would be the type i enjoy playing the most, which are rpgs. rpgs are huge smash hits for one thing, and being to create one for yourself would be fun be an addition. create a unique battle system, original storyline, and extra features for gameplay. its all about creativity and skill designing them.
i'd bet people that like to make rpgs would like to work in a company like square enix or something.

That's something I forgot to take into consideration, how the resource gathering would work. This is the working idea though.
There are certain resource points. When they are catpured someone (most likly a bot) dirves a big truck to them (with more then one player in it because it takes more then one to set up big things) and then sets up the resource point. After that a resource point provides that type of resources.
In other words it works like any other building (except barrakes, which have several restrictions)
The best part is how the boundries won't be stright lines. You can set up a resource point anywhere provided that the truck with the resources can get back to the building using the resources without being blown to pieces. I guess you could built the gun factory right next to the resource points "behind enemy lines", but then the enemy would bust in, shoot all the guards. Blow up the turrets you probably built around it to defend against them and take all the guns and use them to KILL YOU!

I am a Pokemon Lover, and I would like to make Pikachu Bound Alpha (First Bound)
Because it will be fun. Having HP instead of lives.

Pikachu will have 20 HP.

Using explosions that cost 1 HP, explosions that cost 2 HP,
Fire costs 1 HP every second.

Better watch your HP, because if your HP runs out,
wait for your allies to revive you.

But if all of your allies are defeated, you lose.

The game is going to be developed pretty shortly.

When is StarCraft going to have version 1.14?
