How do I make it so that the players can see invisible/burrowed units and traps w/o playing detectors everywhere?

if you have xtra editor or other editors besides the campaign editor, you can enable shared vision for them. you can put in trigger actions called 'run ai script' and under that they have the turn on/off shared vision for player.
enable it for the player that you want to see the other player
example:

Conditions:
-always
Actions:
-Run AI script "Turn on shared vision for player 'X'"

if you set the trigger to belong to player 1,then set the shared vision on another player, then player 1 will see that player.

is there a way to do that w/o making ALL enemy units visible? ie, i don't want player1 to know where everything is, i just went them to be able to see dark templar when they are within normal vision. or do i just not use DT unless i put a observer in the area haha

You cannot make it just to see certain parts with the AI script vision. You either see all or none at all. I would suggest putting the observer in the arena and making it another computer that you see vision so you can't control the observer.

You could make the observer follow your unit. However this will create drawbacks. Will create lag, will not work with more than one type of the unit its following for that player, etc.

hmm. i'm basically making this game specifically for me and a few friends, so the lag portion wouldn't be an issue. and each of us only gets 1 character, so i could make everyone a probe and just tell them to have it follow their main unit?

Yes, that would work and it wouldn't cause lag at all.

Observer. Probes don't detect.
