I just got bored, so I started working on this map, sorry if its not very good...

After all I'm a modmaker, not a mapmaker tongue.gif

.......Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or is none of that extended terrain? If it is indeed extended, I certainly don't see anything.
The hut made of traps in the second picture is decent, but appears to be the only part of the entire peice that can't be done in plain old staredit.
Plus, screenshots are encouraged to be ingame, as editors zoom out slightly.

Actually, it is mostly extended terrain...I just based it off of isometric design to make it look better tongue.gif

Example: look at screenshot #4, I made that from 95% extended terrain biggrin.gif

i like it... im not able to do that! oO !!

Most of this can be done even better and more naturally by just randomly doing it with ISOM tools...

#4 I can see the blend, but there is a Height problem with 1stage going down to waterlevel...

And a major issue with these terrain pieces is that there are tons of Straight Lines, I don't see alot of cliffs that go on perfectly straight for that long... Make it look natural!

I purposely made it close to water level in #4, its supposed to look like the high dirt is slanted

Also, which cliffs are you talking about?

I really like it! Its maybe caus of the zoom out, but i did'nt see any ''blocky'' effect!

If you would like to make it look like it was purposelessly slanted, you should also have flat ground above it, represented by even cliff heights...

All of your cliffs are too straight across, more then 2 cliffs in the same direction = not natural.

If your going to do extended terrain, don't make it look like isometric. Besides, the first screen has the isometric tool selected.

What's wrong with consistency and structure? I base all my terrain structures on a premade Isom structure. Well, not all of the time, since I can construct most of the Isom structures with the tiles. Plan things out with the isom tool, then apply your custom terrain over it. It tends to be alot less blocky.

Sorry about that being selected, but I closed the map then openned it again to make screenshots

Only reason one has the extended brush selected is because I edited it slightly tongue.gif

Thanks, and if you want I can post some fully zoomed ones...but it would be a bunch more of them in order to fit on screen

and no, I got rid of 100% of the blocky effect biggrin.gif (I hope, you might prove me wrong tongue.gif )

it looks....plain, and in 1&2 i don't see any extended terrain at all.

3/10

This is the "Terrain" forum, not the "Extended Terrain" forum. But I will admit that there is nothing really special about it, most of it looks like it can be done in even StarEdit. "Just some terrain" is not a lie. tongue.gif

I slightly changed the terrain in the third screenshot to make them more realistic

[attachmentid=18326]

And sorry I didn't make it extended enough, I was looking for realistic and high quality, not blocky pieces that don't blend into starcraft maps

You fixed up the last one, but the originals are as Wood said, jsut bad. They lack flow, they lack extended usefulness, they lack extended usage. 2/10. You just need more time, baby.

I would have to recogmend that you try and make a layout of your islands with just the dirt isom brush and then make sure it looks natural b4 you put cliffs or rivers through them.
