Ok, here's the deal. I'm 12 hours into this game (more like 20+ if you count the number of times I decided to make a save and then go on a killing spree), and let me tell you, this game... is better than anything I've played before. It takes one Hell of a gaming rig to play it though. My P4 630 @ 3.0 GHz, 1 GB of Ram, and 256mb GeForce 6800 @ 400/760 MHz runs it at medium-high. Everything looks spectacular, though I'm finding that I want one of those new X1900XTX cards now. In fact, I've barely just closed the first Oblivion gate, and as far as I can tell, there sure is a heck more where that came from (not that I'm complaining). This game is only revolutionary in its superb quality. If you can run this game, buy it. Also, there is so much to do. The world is huge! On horseback it takes about an hour from the West tip of the game world to the East and about that long again from North to South. Running is about double that. Of course you can use the map's "speed travel" feature to instantly transport somewhere, but you just need to receive a taste of all the quests you miss by doing that to realize that you will more often than not want to run/ride the distance. Also, the game is extremely beautiful, better than anything I have ever seen before. The AI is fantastic and adaptive, and everything is very realistic (for a fantasy game). Just wow. Just go out and get this game. Now!
It is a very good game but the weird thing is while you level the world levels so it doesnt get easyer... it gets harder... its really weird when you have to kill bandits wearing daedric armor

This game is very good, and the progression getting harder, that's much like FFXI.
Too bad my AMD Athlon 2000+ 1.7 Ghz processor, 512MB RAM, Radeon 9550 256 MB memory computer can't play this, otherwise I would be

I've heard only good from this game, I might get it when(if ever, father is stubborn with money

) I get a new computer.
I've been playing it for about a month now, and I haven't even come close to finishing the main quest. There's too many other fun things to do!

The game truely is next gen, not only in terms of graphics, but AI and the level of interactivity too.
Yeah, I'm looking to upgrade my PSU and video card too, since I can only run it on Medium.

Sounds pretty cool but ive never been into elder scrolls, i played it once and it didnt really stick, or maybe that was another game..
The main quest is extremely short so i don't know what you guys were doing for that long of time but it was most definitely not the main quest. To get to the first oblivion gate, you just get out of sewers, talk to jauffery, and you are there (1 hour at most). The rest will take like 30 minutes per thing. The ending is not so great and there are no surprises except for the battle of bruma. Vampirism sucks but it gives nice skills to you. The side quests are repetitive in what to do go (kill this, find this, etc..) Overall, i'd give it a 7/10. It took me about 4 hours to do the entire main quest by the way.

Technically, I could play, but I don't know how funt hat would be

And does this game have online play?
No, Elder Scrolls games are notoriously single-player.
The main quest is extremely short? Hello, it took me at least two to do the first Oblivion gate and Kvatch, maybe three. Oh, and thanks for ruining Bruma for me.

Unfortenatlely. In the 5th one (THERE WILL BE A 5TH ONE!!) they should at least have a very small online. It wouldn't even have to be that speical just you both start with new characters and do the same quests but with someone next to you. That alone would be fun!
I have it for the xbox360 and I have total of 80 hours of gameplay. I sort of stopped playing my first game because I wanted to be a fighter (70 hours on the first file) now i'm around 10 hours into my Nord Fighter. Bad ass game, i've been playing it for a while.

Actually, now that I think about it, I lied. Battlespire has multiplayer.

You must be really REALLY slow then.
An hour for each area? Yeah, I'm really slow. You can't even run through those areas in half an hour, let alone learn what to do and defeat all the monsters. Be nice. Everyone else loves this game, agrees that it takes forever, and loves it for that.
*note from Revelade: He's saying you're slow because he's looking at you from his point of view. It would be just the same as if you said he is fast compared to your point of view. Both of you mean the same thing, just don't flame*
I play TES4:O with an Xbox 360, cause GameSpot said it's the safest choice than a PC.
Also, to tell you all the truth, this game is at least 48 hours long of gameplay, so don't whine that a main quest is too short or too long, its called "Role-Playing" for a reason, that means you could be a warrior and somebody else is a magician, so don't call other people slow otherwise you rush with a different RP character.
I'm sure you could go through it... in maybe fifteen hours if you tried, but who wants to do just the main quest and nothing else? That's a complete waste of this game. This game is amazing.

This game is not amazing...There are no surprises. Some people like to beat the game like in zelda and then go through other quests. I prefer playing battlefield 2 then it now..
Oh yeah and Quake is lik soo p20.
I liked Morrowind so much I pretty much quit SEN to play it... but I haven't got Oblivion yet, and I'm not sure whther a 6800 (nVidia GeForce) could handle it. My P4 runs at 2.66, though, and I could OC it.
The 6800 is on the supported chipsets list, so you'll probably get around medium settings.
I got the official plugins today (for a total of $5.77). So far, I haven't really explored them too much, since I created a new mage today. I might have to load up my assassin (who is insanely rich) and buy some of the Überly-expensive furnishings for Frostscag? Spire and maybe some armor for Shadowmere...
