Staredit Network -> Website Feedback, Bugs & Discussion -> A Suggestion about Polls
Report, edit, etc...Posted by JaFF on 2006-04-22 at 16:01:27
is it me, or does a "medium" SEN member FIRST look at the replies in the poll & only AFTER THAT he votes, influenced buy the posts.

would it be better to see only the first creator's post (becawse it explains the poll deeper than the name.) before you voted. & all the other reply's can be seen only after you've voted.

i dunno, is this possible, but there would be plus & minus, like

MINUS
-if a person wants to participate only for the discussion & not for voting, he can't do that
-headache to the guys who will work on it

PLUS
-the voting is "cleaner"

do we need that or is it my sick imagination ?

if the mods do not like this pliz close it

I'm pretty sure Merrell suggested something like this before, but nothing happened sad.gif

It's a good idea, I say do it.

You've got two disadvantages versus one advantage. We'd had to pretty much remake the whole poll thread system.

Also, people like to read posts other than the first one, like myself. A second or possibly a third post may provide more information and a second point of view than the first post.
This suggetion that you've made only works for polls in the poll subforum.

The topic post for a poll thread can be just as biased as any of the replies.

Yeah, I had a suggestion like this a few months ago. It faded away because Moose isn't the one that likes suggestions too much, unless he's just always busy.

so this idea is out of the question ?

It's actually an option in senv5 polls... "Force votes" or something, where replies are hidden until the person actually votes. I didn't know it was suggested before blink.gif.

The actual poll should at least be under the first post, so the person gets all the information before voting.

killer_kow, that's a killer idea (that means, it will most likely happen smile.gif).

Uggh, so now we're gonig to have to see the page disrupted by the Google ad and the poll? Here's somethnig cleaner, put them to the right of the first post...

Like this;

CODE

+----------+-------------------------+----------+
| Syphon   | <Insert text here>      | Poll     |
+----------+-------------------------+----------+
| <Insert Google ad here>                       |
+-----------------------------------------------+

Then goes post 2, with the poll area becomeing part of the text area.

In my v5 skin (If it happens) the large unit display area could hold polls.

Wait... Where are the Google ads at right now?

I meant only on the first page, before you vote. You see the post, vote on the poll and it all becomes normal again.

The google ads disappeared... because they don't like staredit.net ;o
I'm not sure what's going on right now.

have you contacted Google?

That would be the best way to settle this issue. Google knows everything. wink.gif
