Last week I finally got my hands on the PC version of this game, and to say the least I am uterly amazed. The graphics are top notch, the environment sounds are simply baffling, the huge free roaming map is exceptional, and the gameplay is just...wow.

The only thing that troubles me is my frame rate. God damn this thing is a memory hore. Doom 3 runs nicely at medium settings on my machine but Oblivion renders my computer to only put out 10 - 15 fps!! I was running it at 800X600 with 6X Antialiasing but I didn't think the lag between frames would be that great. So now I have it tuned down to 640X480 with no antialiasing and no special effects. But my computer isn't that shizty, is it? Yah, I'm running a nearly legacy card, a Radeon 9600 Pro, but it has 256 MB of video RAM. I also have a Pentium 2.4GHz and 512 MB of RAM on my board. I surpass the minimum settings by a fair margin.

I was wondering if anyone else with a simular type setup is having the same issue. Or if there is any special way to crank out more frames. Dear god this game is good, but I want to see it how it was meant to be seen.

Oh, heh heh. I have a P4 630 @ 3.0 GHz (can't overclock due to crappy Dell bios), 256 mb GeForce 6800 vanilla overclocked at 400 MHz core / 760 MHz memory, and 2x512 mb DDR2 533 memory. Here are my graphics options:

Resolution: 1680x1050
Medium Textures
Distance Sliders set to Medium
Grass turned off (this helped a lot)
All shadows on, or highest that they can go (interior/exterior shadows medium distance)
Highest settings available everywhere else
Bloom on (instead of HDR)
2x Anti-Aliasing

You have a mid-level gpu from two whole generations ago. Mine is a medium-high gpu from one generation ago, so what makes you think you should be able to run Oblivion with 6x AA on? Heh heh. Oh, and you should really have at least a gig of memory for gaming (at least right now, when Vista comes out the gaming standard is going to be two gigs).

Yeah much different. In this thread you talk about your expirence with the game, and in the other thread Felagund talks about his expirence with the game and you guys basically say the same exact thing.
Huge difference.

Lol. The X600 is a crap card. The X1800XT is a good card. The 6800 is an ok card. My advice to you: the X600 isn't worth the shipping.

It'd be an upgrade for my computer though =\ I have a Radeon 9550, and I only got that recently, and I don't have much money sad.gif

And if it runs Oblivion, it'd be one step closer for my computer to play it =\

Actually Golden, this thread is more technically-orientated, we're talking about performance levels with different hardware, the other thread is about the gameplay itself.

Indeed hmm hmm. He is one of those bee-itchy (censorship sucks) SENers that loves to complain.

Here's quote what I got I stole from the Game Intro. tongue.gif

"I was born eighty-seven years ago, for sixty-five years I ruled Tamriel's Emperor. But for all these years, I never been the ruler of my own dreams. I have seen the gates of oblivion, by which no waking eye can see. Behold, in darkness a doom sweeps the land.

This is the 27th of the last seed, the year of the akatosh four thirty three. These are the closing days of the third era, and the final hours... of my life."

He could've asked the question in the other thread since it was the same game. And Felagund's thread was talking about everything to do with the game, from specs to gameplay. This is just specs and a problem with his PC which could've easily fit in the other thread. But you know it looks like no one is backing me up so whatever.

Your post is rather contradicting hypocritical since you're complaing about how you think I "complain".
