I've been doing a lot about of reading this weekend about "lucid dreams". For those who don't know, a lucid dream is a dream in which you that you are dreaming, or you're consciously dreaming. Most of the time going into such a state gives you control over the dream, though I've heard stories where people have known what was happening but still didn't have control.
Anyway, I'll give you my story. Friday was the first day that I did a lot of reading up on lucid dreams. Apparently I must've gotten my brain so fixated on it because when I went to sleep, I had one. I was doing my thing in a normal place until my consciousness kicked in. I found a certain person there, and realized that under the circumstances, she had no possible way of being there. Then something larger hit me -
this is a past memory, this entire scenario has already taken place. After this reality check, I realized where I was - dream world. This made me get very excited and a little scared. I was there in this lucid dream, what did I do? Gradually I started to panic - and eventually I did a figurative "screw this" and forced myself to wake up.
And that's it. If you're curious as to what I read, its pretty much here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucid_dreaminghttp://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Lucid_Dreaminghttp://www.ld4all.com/I didn't use any of their specific "techniques" per se, rather I just got myself very very fixated on it. Share your experiences and thoughts please.
Most of the "lucid dreams" I have are actually visualizations, AKA, daydreams.
People who play a lot of video games are suppose to have more frequent and more lucid dreams
Once when I was on drugs it felt like the whole experience was a lucis dream
I would know what was goin to happen next, and then change what I thought I was going to do, but then what I knew was going to happen happened anyways.
It was like I was dreaming in real life, knew what was goin to happen, tried to change it, but it would turn out as I thought it would anyways...
I have those every few days. I thought most dreams were like that, guess not. They're sort of annoying if you get them often, like I had a dream that I did a really cool trick on my bike because there was no school that day. And I woke up 20 minutes after I was suppose to. I was in a small 3 minute denial of real life and decided not to get up yet. I ended up being late that day.
If I had full control over that dream, I would do something like let me fly.
I once had a 'Nightmare', but right before it would have started the dream gave me a choice - continue or wake up. There was a door in front of me. I peeked through the keyhole, saw two people (won't say who) sitting at a table, then they turned toward me and their faces went all scary. I stopped peeking and decided to wake up. Should have made the bad guys go away and given myself the ability to fly.
I've heard of it, but I've never experienced it. I'll have to try one of their "techniques", it sounds fun.
All my dreams ar elucid daydreams about me flying around the world consplodin' things. I think I talk in my sleep too, as I usual get odd looks when I come out of a daydream or sleeping.
I used to have these a lot, but I dream less now. I would always mess up the "plot" of the dream, by jumping of a high building or something.
Its all about the training yourself to lucid dream by asking yorself if your dreaming during the day. I actually did it once, after about a week of trying. In the dream I changed the date of the calender, and then realized I was in a dream because I never touch calenders. So I had a little fun for a while, but couldn't think of anything cool to do, so I woke up and never tried it again.
I've had lots of weird dreams that had bizarre stories, but I was never in control.
Whenever I realise I'm dreaming or about to OBE (Out of Body Experience), I always startle to conciousness.
At first when I read this I thought it said Liquid dream A.k.a. wet dream and thought to myself wtf?
Anyway ive had afew licuid dreams but like once I realize that it is happening I go back awake kinda like Kow An out of body experience is actually a condition called hypogogia. I experience them.
I had a dream once. I knew it was a dream, and was telling people that you're just a dream. They didn't believe me.
Another dream, me and my friends were bein chased by a maniac. Friends died. I was the target. The guy was about to kill me, we got in a DBZ fight. Then I got scared for some reason. He was chasing me, then I was like OMFG I'M OUTTA HERE and i woke up.
It certainly can be done, but there's a technique that you need to develop in order to be able to have lucid dreams frequently, otherwise they're just a chance occurence.
Step one is keeping a dream diary and noting down the details of the dreams you've had before you forget them. This usually helps a person become more aware of their dreams, which is a prequisite to being able to control them.
I used to keep a dream diary but stopped. Recently, I've started again. It's too soon to see any change, but I'm hoping there will be some eventually.
I experience an amazing amount of dreams which I can control, it started when I got into buddhism and started meditating more often, but that might just be me with a clear mind.
I've done tons of things and really weird things with the rooms I've been in.
I had a dream today that I kicked ass at Halo 2.
Does that count?
I've had a couple types of lucid dreams before. I had a dream where i was dreaming about being trapped in my room, and i realized i was asleep and no matter how many times i ''woke'' myself up i was still dreaming. I also had a more vivid lucid dream where i was being chased by a strange man, then i suddenly realized i was asleep, and i have control over the dream for a while, then i wake up. But most of the time I get these dreams where i suddenly realize i'm asleep, and un-controllably wake up.
Funny thing is, i was looking @ a lucid dream website before i looked at this topic.
The first dream i described is also a
False Awakening. I've had a few of these, one i actually went to taking a shower , but when i looked in the mirror i woke up (really woke up).
QUOTE
In some cases false awakenings can also be nightmares. For example, a dreamer may "awaken" to find a man with a knife standing over them, only to awaken again to find the man still there, and so on. Such nightmares can be prolonged and extremely disrupting. Research into the dream-suppressing properties of various drugs has begun in an effort to treat such nightmares.
I've had something like that before, except it wasn't a guy with a knife... it was my dad and for some reason he scared the hell outta me.

If you were asleep and you knew you were dreaming, then yes.
I think I have stuff like this when I wake up early (~ 5:30) and need to wake up at like 6:00 or something. During that time. I've even dreamt about being a mod on SEN, or being able to view warn logs. I think it was because I saw donwano's warn log in his avatar or something
Odd, I
just (4 seconds ago) read this for the first time.
http://s13.invisionfree.com/Variety_Villa/...?showtopic=1979I said
"Never felt it. Ive had dreams (...), but I rarely even know Ive had one. So I get the feeling I only have a dream twice a month or so.. I can barely remember them too.
It sounds like a lie to me, but I can't deny it, because it sounds somewhat legitimate."
And randomly, does anyone
see themself in the third person in their dreams, sometimes? Because I find that odd.
Dreams are just you trippin balls while you sleep.
I'm tired of dream discussions, everyone talks about their dreams like they're so unique and special. I hope another thread like this doesn't get made. This one hasn't been so bad, so I'll let it slide. But if I see another one, I'm gonna continue the condescending tone.
Thank you, Loser_Musician, I see you plan to enchance our discussion.
Anyway, yes, I have dreamed in the third person. Almost in a movie format. Some would say this is an out of body experience. But to me it felt like I was still me controlling myself from a third person, so technically I was in my body just viewing it differently.
I've also gone through periods of really crappy dream recall, where to me it would just seem like I blacked out for 8 hours every night. It seems I'm done with that though.
These happen to me all the time. It's usually if the tv is on too loud and slightly wakes me up enough for me to be consious or if someone makes a loud noise near me. Like I have controlled my self so i can fly or stuff. Sometimes my dreams like this last up to 5 minutes and i hate waking up while having these dreams.
I love lucid dreams. Ive always wanted to have one but never did.
Everytime i do a "reality check" in my dream i immediately wake up.
yea, i did knew a few people that went sleep walking with half their eyelids open which i found it wierd.
i had some of those lucid dreams before, i was in a situation that i knew couldn't be real like a flying hippo in the sky(yea i know my dreams are wierd, and don't tell me yours are any different, everyone has them) and knew it was a dream. i
just thought it was wierd and woke up.
in a psychological way, thats just how the human mind works. we sometimes dream about things thats like trying telling you something.
like sometimes the things you dream about can have an affect on your reality life. like i have read in a book, say when you dreamed that you are flying somewhere in the sky, it's said you feel trapped and want to escape.
and sometimes when you feel you have done something wrong, then sleep later, you dream up of a guilty conscious on your mind.
