I've seen the new unprotector which it said it can unprotect any maps...It's funny seeing those noobs...one of them said:

QUOTE
Heh, you Staredit.net !@!s, get the hell out, rexyrex and cheezus. You only here, trying to make this file unpopular, because you from the place that makes file protection in the first place.

But, this will spread far and wide. Go bítch about it at staredit.net smile.gif

And another:
QUOTE
Impressive program. This will stir up the Staredit Network community and b.net for sure.

And this is the creator of it:
QUOTE
SunshineBird and I are very proud to be here today as a part of the StarCraft community. It has been my goal and ambition to make maps open source and it seems that today we have accomplished that goal. We give you all, OSMAP (Open Source MApping Project)! The first public program that is able to unprotect any programmed protection in existance. We do not detect protection because that would greatly limit the program. We have instead, decided to make toggle-able options that may be used to better unprotect maps.

Watch out for map stealers! blink.gif

ADDITION:
This was made clearly to steal maps because if you just want to see the triggers then why not use trigger viewer...

just shows them how people rather work on something to rip off someone else's work then doing something on their own...they're just lazy kids that has nothing better to do and shows them how helpless they are to creating a simple map for themselves.

I'm part of the minority that supports map unprotection.

While everybody will moan about this program, I think that it has the potential to do both harm and good.

The argument about Trigger Editor being used to see how a map works is not a good one. Simply looking at a trigger is not going to help a newbie mapmaker much - they need to be able to relate the trigger to an event or location in the game, and in order to understand the mechanics of triggering it's best if they edit the triggers to see what effects are produced. If you say that you can get good enough help here on SEN, then I guess it works for some people, but it doesn't for others. When I was learning SEN didn't really help - I had to experiment with editing the maps of others to actually understand the concepts behind triggering. It's all very well reading a list of triggers that someone tells you to make in the forum post or tutorial, but you're much less likely to glean any useful understanding.

Looking at and editing triggers in a map and watching what happens is the best way to learn, in my opinion. It's learning by example, and trial and error.

As for map stealers - they're fools and I do not advocate map-stealing at all. I just think that this program is not the mapmaker's anathema like everybody seems to think it is.

great its back.... disgust.gif

well im against this all the way, now people can just take our ideas and say that they did it...i think that is messed up...and trigger viewer i agree isnt the greatest program, you get the triggers but some people dont know the location demensions(which was in an older version of TW but taken out for some reason).

Fortunately. unless its some retard i Seriously dont think any of MY Maps are gonna get stolen, unfortunately for the others. Anyone would love to steal Faith and Destiny or DeathKnights III disgust.gif

i agree with that...but knowing bnet is infested with almost every age group and morons, i bet some people would be stupid enough to steal those and get away with it. some people would never have heard of the author of that map until they played it. like a map you made, then a map stealer took it. while you host it some newbies would be going crazy like your the one stealing it...

sen has a lot of resources and tutorials for mapmaking...if thats not enough they can just post for help and we'll try to help them in anyway we can...but some people are just so lazy and rather not go through all that work. we can give them example maps on how to do the triggers and such.

Well then, the obvious answer is to download the Unprotector! If you download the Unprotector you can find out how it works, and if you know how it works, it will be easier to counter act against. If someone is able to make a program that makes a new sort of protection that the unprotector doesn't recognize, problem solved!

....Right?

The way to keep protected is easy. Make the maps so hard and complexly triggered that only you know how to edit them. Thats what I do.

yeah there are many people that do that. just putting complex triggers...not commenting, and scatter them everywhere...people won't understand them anyway. this may, or may not be an idea, what if you can enable the map to crash everytime you open it?it'll just exit the editor when you try to open the map. i've saw it somewhere on sen, people put in excessive things(over 64 actions in a trigger etc) make it unable to open and crash.

whats the idea of making the triggers so complex they won't understand it, but all they do is just delete your name off a map wherever its found and replaces it with theirs.

Um, but it does keep them from cheating the map

BTW, Map unprotecting is not that hard. ANyone who knows CHK knows how to unprotect, and quite a few people know. NOt to make it public or anything but I made most of the edits to Tarpit Defense 3.1 to 3.2. It was done again by someone named speed][fast to ver 3.3. I have a list of all the edits and the reaosn i did it if you want.

This is the only tool map stealers have to steal maps(except all that technical stuff.). It's all they need, too. There are other tools and ways to learn maps, rather than breaking their protection. They're protected for a reason, to keep you out.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Oo.Vic.oO on 2006-04-27 at 20:26:27
also, with the unprotector many people will edit other peopple's map n say Edited by: _____ and later on u will have like 50 verions of it.

You dont seem to realize......

If they want to break your map, they will. THis just makes it easier.

The way the SC Unprotector creator(s) talk makes it seem as if they're malicious.

This is going to be an eternal battle between protection and unprotection. The best thing one can do is post the map on SC.org, SEN, and have your name on one of the forces, so that people can actually recognize the creator, or at least is given a chance to.

Wasn't there a unit on SCMD2 that will crash editors whenever the map is opened?

What do you mean? By like hex editting and stuff?(Not really sure about this stuff)

I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't know how to unprotect a map, and I'm sure there are some map stealers that don't either.

I think they should make it so that it 'unprotects' the map, but it does not allow any editing to the map.

WAIT?!??!? Does this even override the Authentication that Starforge makes?

I know how to unprotect maps. Its not that hard. I don't plan on unprotecting maps though. Im just declaring that it is possible. All you need to do is edit the string section, which isnt that hard. The only really hard way to break map protection is to write your name in the terrain. Not the fog of war layer, since that cane be easily edited. Also, make sure to put random color tags inbetween the letters of your name. Put your name every where, and written differently each time. For example :

Carlsagan43

becomess:

|Carl|Sagan|43

where the "|" is a color tag.

Makes it much harder.

I don't mind any unprotector at all... Who wants to hide techniques and triggers from other map makers who want to learn? If you get upset when someone steals your map and if you make maps to gain popularity and fame... what a mistake that is... IMO. Maps should be made with the intent of neutraility upwards to positive benefit. IMO again. Just a lil chit chattin of course. tongue.gif

what if they dont WANT to edit them. its kind of obvious that there just going to Unprotect it. change all of the "Created by Mp)Lyon (or Carlsagan43)" names everywhere and put there own in. and Get credit for the map, this program is a way for Noob map makers to feel good about themselves because there getting credit for someone elses hard work.

You're not gettind credited for your hard work.

And if they want to view the triggers, USE TRIGGER VIEWER 2!
