I'm lucky to get a 2.0... I really need to apply myself cause this 1.5-1.8 GPA ain't cutting it. I did get like a 3.1 in middle school though. Like 5 years ago. That don't count though.

Its kinda dumb, but in its own way, its sorta accurate.
Grade letters/number equivalents:
F = 0
D = 1
C = 2
B = 3
A = 4
They add up all the "grade numbers" you've acquired and divide that total by the number of classes you've completed. The average is your GPA. That's roughly how its done.

GPA doesn't become a social status symbol until high school.
EDIT:
I take that back, when I was in 7th-8th grade, there was this snotty (but hot) girl in my class who's mom was on the education board. At the end of every semester, her mom would get up on stage in the auditorium and talk about her darling daughter's perfect GPA. Can anyone say shameless? Meh, I'm not bitter, I just wanted to bang her.

Oh we have n/a-10 grade system. Dividing by 2 it would be 3.6. But we never actually get 9 or 10 for anything

Well, we still get grades by your system in exams and I fond this piece of paper here.
A - 10
B - 8; 9
C - 7; 6
D - 5; 4
E - 3; 2
F - 1
But like you said it's not comparable. Because we never get 10 and rarely 9 for anything and 7 is a really good grade. C is probably low one in US.

I've been meaning to ask, how the hell to you get a GPA above 4.00, isn't that the maximun?
At my school, A is 4 points, if you have all A's, you get 4.00, which means perfect GPA.

AP classes are on a 5.0 grading scale, as compared to 4.0 for normal classes.
