Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> Are you depressed?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by RedNara on 2006-05-04 at 17:41:04
Today I went to see my every day councilor, now he tells me that I am depressed. And I knew there was something wrong with my set of mind since being tired daily, and constantly waking up in the middle of the night. Thoughts of suiciding, hurting myself pops up as I stand.

I believe this is a serious discussion just because of the fact that over 18 million Americans are depressed, and depression generally leads to suicide which is the 11th leading cause of death, and the 3rd leading cause of death among people 15 to 24 in the U.S.

However, the question is... How do I overcome this. I mean looking at myself right now I feel pity. My dreams are dying my life is wasting, and I am in an everending cycle of tiredness and sadness. And also if you are depressed.

Well, the best step for helping depression is getting anti-depressant pills, which is quite obvious. Then, spend some time with other people since people will generally stay in their depressive state if they don't socialize. The rest is confidence building.

Keep remembering that it's temporary, that the remainder of your life won't be like this, and that suiciding because of it is a sign of weakness. Never been depressed, but I think it will help.

I sure am, I just own at hiding it.

EDIT:
F*ck
I thought it said null at the top, sorry. If a mod reads the report ignore it.

Yeah those anti depressant pills are really bad. A side effect is gaining weight, that's REALLY going to help being depressed.
I also suggest watching saw. It's not the best way to get rid of wanting to kill yourself but it will scare you out of doing it pretty well. Since all the victims of the movie SAW are people who aren't happy to be alive. Though I repeat, it's not a very good or succesful way to getting out of depression.

you need to talk with people more, talk about fun things and do fun activities such as sports or games(LAN parties are fun biggrin.gif)

basically just do stuff that will get you to stop reflecting on things and focus on what you are doing

Didn't your doctor tell you anyways to overcome it?

btw, your poll and post don't match. The poll asks if you are depressed, but your post asks how to overcome depression.

Its also more like a conversation on depression also. Its like 2 in one, yea sure doctors tell you stuff but you think they really work? Same as Golden says depression pills do help; however, i dont take them becuase of side effects and stuff. They actually are really bad.

And I do, do sports, and lots of other activies. But for some reason i stopped since like last week. I dont know but I really dont feel like doing them.

grade A bologna. the pills only make you feel compeled to act out and do really stupid stuff. they made my brother easily pissed off. they dont help

i am depressed but i get over the fact that my life sucks. it comes and goes but depression is kinda fun to break away if you get what i mean. and basicly, if you want to comit sucide, it's your own choice. dont listen to the people that say depression will lead to sucide, cause they are LIARS!! lol seriously, i think that depression sucks but if you cant deal with it then w.e do what you want. most teens are depressed at really dumb thngs and they dont understand why but the real reason is that you're growing and so much is changeing and you begin to realize other things. ill stop there before i completly end up changeing the main idea. lol

Yes it is your own choice of suiciding; however, one thing about depression is that you have the feeling of wanting to suicide, and hurting yourself. wait i lost my point on what i was trying to say... Yea...

There are many ways of over coming depression.

I recommend lots of thinking. Just when you're walking home from school, or to someone's house, or just doing nothing, think about anything that is bothering you, or about someone you like, about wishes and dreams; just anything.

You'll start to organize your thoughts, think things through, build up mental stability as you form your own ideas and opinions on random subjects. Eventually you can conqure thought of suicide by realizing the full consequences. Not just your life, but everyones. You'll start to see things from more perspectives and see the larger picture. Its all about enlightening yourself.

Meditate. That might help too. biggrin.gif

Just because they didn't work for your brother, doesn't mean they won't work for anyone else.

Maybe try marijuana. I would personally trust that over any pills.

Or mushrooms. Those have perculiar effects on the psychy. Some people will trip out hard and think they're dead, all time disappears, nothing matters, some people have said to gone through time, talked to God, been in different dimensions, you name it. You can wake up and be completely enlightened. But maybe if you're depressed in the first place it wouldn't be such a good idea (could have a bad trip).

they dont work for anyone. they just dont work. when you get taken off them your depression gets 5x worse. it creates dependency on them witch in my book is a very bad thing. and somtimes, addiction occurs and thats catasrtophic

I am off and on. And remember being depressed is not just being lonely and sad. You can be a happy person but if every thing in your life seems SO over whelming and you can't handle it can also be a form of depression. At least that what my counceler said. The "overwhelmed" feeling.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Toothfariy on 2006-05-04 at 18:58:09
it's not so much as overwhelming but it's more of the shock you get from realzing that it's too overwhelming

DRUGS ARE THE ANSWER
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Toothfariy on 2006-05-04 at 19:15:43
most people on drugs become posers. at least in my school and i dont think it helped their depression

Think positive and in perspective. Personally, I believe most depression cases are purely psychological. Take control of your thoughts, they are YOURS, after all.

Yea i definatly dont want to take drug to get rip of my depression... Seems like thoes drugs have lots of side effects, and your more likely avoiding your depression. And once your off the pills you probably feel depressed again.

A lot of people say take care of yourself; however, life doesnt aways happen the way you want it to. And one simple mistake you make can change even the perception of others and the way you think, making your life harder.

This might work but.... do something that you don't want to do, then after, you just might feel proud of yourself for doing it. Happens to me EVERY time I do something i generally do not want to do.. Just a suggestion. I hear that working out does something to the brain that raises "happieness" and i can say that also works for me as well, cuz I feel like da MAN afterwards, give either one a try if you've got the time to kill, cuz u never know, they just might help a lot!

Depression is in your mind.

Unless you are genetically depressed like me.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by HolySin on 2006-05-04 at 21:23:00
You genetically have everything, Kellimus. Didn't you even list off everything you have?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by l)ark_13 on 2006-05-04 at 21:54:56
Yeah, I still would try marijuana, thats got a 90% chance of releaving your depression. Its a huge anti-depressant and mellowing-out sort of drug with no negative side effects (chronic users might have some negative side effects).
Find some friends and do it with them or just do it at home alone sometime and relax when you're feeling too stressed.

Im not drug pushing. This is a serious suggestion. It works a good 90% of the time. I actually have many personal examples (not me) that it works, and still works. If you're really against drugs dont try it, but if you're curious then shoot for the moon. It seriously cant hurt, just make sure you trust the source you're getting the marijuana from.

My councilor said I am, but they say everyone is depressed.
Anti-depressants? Pfft. Those do nothing.. I had to take so many of Those. Then they say "Oh, you have to slowly decrease your dose if you want to stop." I just stopped one day. Anything happen? Nope. I felt the same on and off them.

Edit:
Many people in my family are said to have depression. I think it is somewhat genetic over here.. (not always)
Why do they say "suffer"? I am not suffering. I just live every day like anyone else would. (Except not everyone is on Starcraft as much as I am tongue.gif Only about 5 people in my school that I know of has Starcraft.)

Edit:
Uh.. if this is not a great post for SD, its because I pressed the wrong link and just posted in the first topic I saw. O.o

Wow its mp u

That is a good idea, however, the thing is its actually hard to try it out. Like you get what i mean, like you go do it but you cant focus and then you go back to i donno doing something else. But i should try focusing on this more.
