As you all know it is hard to focus unless we are playing video game. And espeically in recent days its even harder to focus, first off people dislike reading in our age. Just a few years ago when video game and television did not exist or when everyone didnt have one, reading was one of everyone favorite hobby. However, now we are sitting our ass infront of the comp or on the sofa playing video game, watching tv, or surfing the net.
So i was wondering what you guys think about the topic on focusing, and is there anyway that helps you do it. I mean focusing obviously sharpen your brain also.
You have to find the Rhythm, the tempo.
I wrote a tutorial about this for SC map making:
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?tutorial=180Just apply it to whatever you're having trouble with instead of SC map making. It works for almost everything
Reading a book is no better than watching TV. Don't let the pseudo intellectuals get to you.
Personally, I just go do it and not even think about it. I've found that to be the most effective method.
Young kids have like ADHA more often nowadays because there are more things to do. They are always like "OMG, I CAN DO THIS, AND THAT, AND THIS, AND THAT, AND IM DO THIS FRIST, THEN THAT!!!"
before TV and video games there was farming and reading and school and baseball (hockey in canada)...

well wat do u expect to do? burn down video games?
It's quite simple really. All of which you have to do is set your mind to it. When I'm reading a book for a school assingment, the first 5 or so pages are the hardest, then I'll later gain momentum and reading speed and eventually, I'll finish before the time I anticipated and understand it better, than say thinking about just finishing the book.
It's all about you controlling your mind and everyone can do it. Can't get around to saying that people with ADD can't do it, ADD doesn't exist. It's a mental state in which the person cannot control his unconscious thinking.
lolz.. i havent read a book in like 5 years and im 12. yet i always get good grades uh huh. Reading doesnt make u smart...if some1 says that reading does make them smart... f*ck themselves..

Irony?
Reading and writing increases your vocabulary and your ability to interpret things such as inferences and puns. In short, reading = Good.

School is easy. It doesn't mean your smart if you get good grades. It just means your doing what your told to do.

Likewise it doesn't mean you aren't if you get bad grades. My math teacher has frequently told me that he thinks i'm the smartest person in grade 9 & 10 at my school, yet I'm failnig 2 classes.

He just doesn't wanna hurt your feelings ;P j/p
You know Einstein failed math and was considered to "never going to amount to anything" by his math teacher?

i dont have to type grammar and vocabulary in my comp...
But if you do you'll give us a reason to believe you
. Reading substantially increases vocabulary and spelling skills, makes you more experienced, makes you (often) more respected, increases your writing skills.
It usually isn't hard for me to focus unless there's total chaos around me and the like (though I have read in the cafeteria a few times
). You just have to read when you don't have a computer or video game. Then you have some motivation.

Yes, you do. It's one of SeN's oft enforced and overlooked rules.

It doesn't MAKE you smarter, it expands your thinking ability.

Yeah I guess, being smart is different than being knowlagable
If you have smarts you're putting your knowlage to practice. Being knowlagable is just knowing things, not actually using that knowlage.
Reading makes you more knowlagable.
I would imagine that the lack of focus is due to the fast pace of modern society. Also, video games are simply more enticing, so it's easier to get bored with other activities.

I think that people that have that more curious/questioning mindset prefer to read, so in general, smarter/more thinking people read. I don't know if it really makes you smarter itself.
Err, so how exactly is sitting on your ass reading better then sitting on your ass watching television or playing a video game?

Your brain actually works more... Its like working out, you have to lift weight to gain muscle. He more your brain works actually means your smarter. Why do you think someone who does math for 4 hours a day is so much more smarter than someone who plays video game 4 hours day. I mean i wouldnt say smarter, but the guy who does math is definatly better at math.
Well atleast people say reading helps you a lot, and I need to start reading; however, its actually real tuff for me. 30 min top of reading, and im bored, magazine there little better short story as well. When it comes to long books like 400 pages, cant even read it.
However, video games increase your hand-eye coordination and your reaction timing. Video games do have their benefits, but the negatives will outweigh the benefits if the person is constantly staring at their T.V./Monitor.

yea thats true. I also managed to type 97 words per min because of me typing in video games and i dont take comp classes.
I used to be able to type faster than I talk, but since I've been grounded off the computer, I lost that ability. There's always hope.
