Title

I havnt found one im satisfied with yet, so soon to come.

Progress

-Ideas
[progress]15[/progress]
•at least 8 spells, most likely going to be 10. everybodies first spell will be teleport to town. when using the stargate method for spells, what building is recommended the most (meaning i can name 'Zealot' to spell #1, without using up a unit that i want to place on the battle field)
•since im completely rethinking this map, more ideas shall soon come

-Terrain
[progress]10[/progress]
•Most likely going to remain ice world as it was, but i may change it, depending on how drastically my story changes

-Unit placement
[progress]0[/progress]
lol, yeah, i havnt started replacing units yet. im going to have a pattern of weak monsters, medium monsters, then upgraded weak monsters, then upgraded medium monsters

-Triggers
[progress]20[/progress]
•The more ideas i pop out, the more triggers that will come smile.gif

-Add your own
•Alt-7 for bullet

Specifications

-Players
5, 6 if i can come up with another character
-Map tileset
Ice World

-Map size
256x256

Storyline / Introduction

Completely rethinking. Its going to be one of those "hack n slash" "Action/adventure RPG" games, but im going to put a lot of thought into the story line.

Details

-Characters
Unit--Character
Zergling--Undecided (between Demon and Druid and Magus)
Zealot--Knight
Infested Kerrigan--Witch
*Maybe Kerrigan* Ghost--Archer
Dark Templar--???

*note* these characters may change if i decide to change time periods. this is for the medieval theme that im going with, but ive been bouncing ideas about a futuristic theme

-Spells
Undetermined, but they will be very good (i hope lol)

Screenshots / Demo

none yet, ill come up with it when i get some stuff down lol. as you can tell this map is not really "in progress" yet, just heavily in thought.

I can't believe what I'm about to say...
Please use our Production Template and fix your thread.
It's irritating even attempting to read about your map.
Fix it and then maybe you can expect some attention.

i checked ur thread and couldnt help notice....

Dark Lunatic K : This map is going to be awful after I read your thread. Immidiate 1/10 for me and screenshots look like they were taken from some crappy hack & slash game. Tsk tsk, and you thought Omaha Beach is 1/10... Lol!

You : if your not going to be Supportive. dont post DLK.

and thank you Tdnfthe1, as you could easily tell, this is my first post. ill change it in a sec.

for the rest of you, you've made me decide to rethink this whole map lol. ill come up with a better story line, make it a little more complex.

EDIT:: Actually, just disregard this post. I'll put a lot more thought into this and post when i've got something better.

Time for me to give this an evaluation.

Beginning with your terrain, what you want to do is keep it random, but not so random. Basically, what you want to do is make it look natural. Think about how long you want the RPG to be. A 256x256 map may be fairly short with a generally open terrain, but when the entire map is one huge maze, the life of the game will drastically increase. Of course, a maze-esque map can get rather repetitive for the player. I suggest getting a good balance, with some strange twist and turns in the terrain to extend the life of the map, yet keeping it natural looking. And make use of doodads. It'll help alot. What many people make mistakes in terrain is the variety. Since your tileset is Ice World, I'm assuming the setting is somewhere north (of course, it could be far to the south, but there's a generalization that people assume that the north is always going to be snowy). In that case, the farther south you travel, the less snow you'll see. Iceworld has alot of variety concerning nature-ish landscapes, so take advantage of what it has to offer and shape a world of out the map.

My advice for unit placement will be almost non-existant. I'm not a big fan of pre-placed enemies style RPGs, but you're the creator, so it's really your decision on how to work this.

Concerning the storyline, I'll give you brownie points for having that metaphor. However, the reason the antagonists are fighting won't cut out as a plot alone. You should develop the backgrounds a bit more. Why did the other 'nations' send these heroes? Are they special for some reason? Why do the antagonists really want those temples? Are the temples really worth fighting for? Are there going to be any plot twists? Something as minimal as a backstory for each character can greatly improve your plot.

As for classes, it's hard for me to give opinions on it, since you seem to be following the path of that RPG that you were following (haha, what a repetitive line...). However, I'll try help you with naming units, since it is the easier part of this category.

Kerrigan Ghost=Player 1, "Archer"

This is a medieval RPG huh? I have nothing to say on this then.

Fenix Zealot=Player 2, "Bladesman"

In medieval times, we call them knights! Or paladins, or whatever. Either suggest sounds better than Bladesman. In my opinion anyways.

Jimmy Raynor=Player 3, "Bowsman"

Is bowsman the same thing as an archer? Talking about medieval times, I remember there used to be alchemists who were basically chemists. Maybe you should replace the Bowsman with an Alchemist, whose unit is a Firebat, and his skills involve mixing items to get crazy effects and moves.

Tassadar High Templar=Player 4, "Mage"

Since I see a unit called a demon, I'm guessing that there's magic involved in this RPG. There's alot of 'synonyms' for a mage, such as sorceror, magician, conjuror, and a bunch of other names. I've seen mage alot, but not the latter three. Try those names out.

Zeratul Dark Templar=Player 5, "Swordsman"

A bladesman and a swordsman! You could interchange the knight/paladin name for this class too. Or say this guy uses a polearm. Yea, dragoons are cool names! Although you may think it's cheesy, since there's a Protoss Dragoon, it's still an option.

Devouring One=Player 6, "Demon"

Er...yea, a Zergling does look rather demonic. Or maybe it's just a man that had a horrible accident in his past, so now he looks deformed and ugly. It'd be amusing to see a class known as 'freak,' 'mutated guy,' or something of that sort.

As for triggers, I can't help you on that.

The unit's built-in abilities are up to you on whether to disable it or not. Is it going affect the gameplay alot? Will it make things horribly imbalanced? Do you even need it? Change the settings and mana cost to your liking, because you're the one who knows how this RPG will work, not us. Other than that, you're free to customize it to however you want the game to be played.

I hope there's some things that I typed that were useful to some extent. Happy mapping.

Why can't there be a demon hero class? do demons always have to be looked on as evil and corrupt? but he is right, unless your planning on giving that defiler ubber moves I wouldn't suggest using a defiler. How about Infested Duran? And if you limit the game so there can be only say one Paladin, and then everyone has to choose a different class, you can then go ahead and name your heros and give the demon a truly demonic name.

yay, for once a VERY productive and supportive comment. im taking all of ur ideas into consideration, but right now im just brainstorming. im thinking that not all people will have spells, but i will set aside 2 or 3 characters that have summon/magic spells, and the other 2 or 3 will have incredible life and damage.

and lol, i was really there for a while considering calling the zling like "lab rat" or "Mage's Accident", but im reconsidering everything now.

anyhow, thanks for all the feedback. biggrin.gif

Wow, I know it's not even my RPG but I compliment you Doomgaze on your sincerity and help. Your post has actually made me feel happier. I applaude you.

Now for the main point, Personally If I had the patience, dedication, and intelligence to do an RPG like you I would have it to where everyone can be the same unit (weapons) and you customize everything about your character. Such as spells, weapons (unit-type), city they start at (etc.). I know what you are thinking... OPEN RPG! but you can still have the same story elements. Such as names, cities, antagonists and protaganists etc.

But so far I like your ideas alot! Good luck dude I will look forward to playing this.

P.S. Flashy text, terrain, and giant explosions don't always make the RPG.
Think about the story and gameplay. Those are the two things I would focus your attention on. My opinion totally, however. Once again, Good Luck and keep up the good work! Post more information when you think of it and when you get the chance!

You approached the situation like an arrogant as*shole(as you naturally are) so how could you expect a different reaction? That's defenitely how you'd react to criticism(mispelled that) about one of your maps.

If you don't want this posted scroll down to the bottom of the screen and there's a tab that says moderation options on the bottom left. Highlight it then select close topic, it'll close your topic and you can redo it later.

Hope you have fun with the map.
