Staredit Network

Staredit Network -> Terrain -> installation terrain
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Zeratul_101 on 2006-05-13 at 00:25:19
i need some installation terrain done on my map but i'm finding it rather difficult to achieve what i want. i don't necessarily want any terrain but i would like to see some screenshots to know what i want to do is possible. please don't tell me to figure it out myself, i will, but it'd help if i knew a general direction to head into.

things i want to see:
rails
multiple floor levels on one terrain type(so it kinda looks like stairs)
modified stairs(both widened and made longer)

You can't really do a lot in installation before it starts looking crappy.
But if you want rails just look at the terrain for doors. You can lay down a track or rail with it.

well, what i realy need more than anything is the modified stairs(cause installations only stairs are pieces of crap).

sprites are by all means fine with me, combat is very small scale so no sprite maxing. so, are there any sprite/terrain combinations that work well?

Mmmm... The stairs arent crappy... Installation is like the Brood War tile sets, there are barely any decent blends in it.

well installation stairs aren't very flexible. they are small and there is only one type.

I've been working with Installation for my Xenosaga map, it's a testy tileset, you have to be prepared to us the trap units alot if you want to do anything multileveled. It looks very nice, though. I'd say it's the most professional-looking tileset, it just needs more terrain types.

well, that is what i wanted for the multilevel aspect, but for stairs, i wanted them to be widened and taller, cause the way they currently are, they're not especially 'flexible' in terms ofuses.

I still don't understand the battle between .gif and .jpg, but anyways, back on topic...

Installation is for sure my least favorite tileset just because there isn't much to do with it... Jungle is for sure the most versatile tileset, but yet the most over used... Thats not really on topic so idk if there are any blends to make staircases wider, but I am going to check all of the Installation tileset maps that I have and I'll get back to you if I find anything. Good luck with finding what you want.

Why not .gif? It looks exactly like it does ingame. Not all smudgy and ugly... it's just 37.02 KB, too.

Gif works great on SC screenshots, sc is 256-color anyway.

How many sprites do you need to use for the multilevel effect?

okay sounds good, but i use USwest and it seems like almost everyone here plays USeast and i onlt use MSN so there might be some problems there... maybe you should PM me the map.

also, don't worry about sprite and unit limits(go trap crazy) as there are a max of 10 units fighting and 30 units in the 'background' at any one time.

also, another blend i'd be interested in is a 'floor' directly onto 'bottomless pit.' although i highly doubt this is possible.

ADDITION:
how do you post screenshots anyways?

you know how if you put 'substructure' next to 'floor,' you'll get the ISOM wall with 'lights' at the top edge. what i was talking about was having the 'lights' form the edge of the 'floor' instead of the yellow and black edging from 'substructure/bottomless pit' terrain.

as you can see, it doesn't blend... is there a way to change that?

i dont think theres a way to do that without the regular wall going down to it...
