I'm currently looking for some helpers for a campaign I'm wanting to make,
the campaign will be used for a mod I'm working on...

Theres a few things I need help on (don't think their small tasks, they will most likely will be big)

Isometric Terrainer - there isn't too much required here, except the ability to make high-quality isometric terrain that fit the description of each mission well, and the ability to create terrain in any tileset (position taken?)

Campaign Idealist - may be a big job, not really sure...the main point of this position is to fill in the gaps in the campaign descriptions, and make the lines for the unit's and stuff (no sounds required, all the lines will be in text) (position taken?)

Unit Placer - placing the unit's required for making the campaigns work, and placing the stuff required by triggerers.
have to also have the skill to make unit's seem realistic for the type of campaign level, and make good army type groups
sorry, position taken (by DarkBlood(MC)

Triggerer - ability to make bug-free triggers and put most the project together, most likely a big job tongue.gif (position taken?)

AI Programmer - most likely not required, but would help alot (I can probably do this if noone else volunteers)
this job requires ability to make quality AI script's for large armies, also requires experience with SCAIEdit

Modmaker - requires ability to program a Iscript, edit .dat files, compile all files, exe editing, edit tbl files, etc
sorry, position taken tongue.gif (by me)

Just so you know, I only need 1 person per job, and I'll help anyone that asks for it (if I can, can't help 2 people at once tongue.gif )

ADDITION: can a moderator move this to a better forum? almost nobody is noticing it here

When do you plan on starting the campaign?

as soon as I get a terrainer disgust.gif

Isn't a bit strange just to announce a project like this out of no where? ermm.gif
Well we would of course need some storyline information to get some of us interested. I mean you need to get some of the Campaign done your self or do some plotting before announcing something like this.

Terrain message me after you get a terrainer and I might do some triggers.

fine...heres the storyline I have so far (it's only mission names and descriptions),
it may not be too detailed, but at least detailed enough to start

Terran Campaign
Turorial mission - "Introductory to the new world" (talking about how they got the way they where, and colonising a new world, includes a slight training against local zergs)
Mission one - "Meeting a old enemy" (the zerg attack, and you try to prevent them from calling more troops, you fail and the war begins in the next mission)
Mission two - "The war begins..." (more zerg troops come, but they don't see you as a large threat so they only send part of their army, you eventually lose and must flee in the next mission)
Mission three - "Escaping the war" (you're running from the enemy trying to escape the war, but you have to get through all their troops waiting on you trying to trap and kill you, then you have to find a good escape area to hide in (carried off by dropships, once your allies meet you at the drop off point))
Mission four - "Building of a army" (you and your allies find a good hide-away spot in a almost deserted area, and try to make a deal with the protoss enemy in order to get protection, but you have to fight off the local zergs untill you can reach a agreement)
Mission five - "Joining our enemy" (you and your newly found allies fight off the locals as they start to pour in faster and faster, and await as the zerg army approaches)
Mission six - "A struggle to survive" (you and your newly found allies fight in the war for your survival, while reinforcements slowly pour in in big groups, eventually the zerg stop coming and the war ends)
Mission seven - "The rebellion" (now that the war is over and your safe, the protoss get tired of putting up with you and kick you outta their base with brutal force, and stop attacking when you get all your troops out)
Mission eight - "Regaining freedom in our homeworld" (you decide to return to your homeworld, and discover that the zerg has overrun it, and you begin another battle to regain your homeworld and recover military troops still fighting in the war against the zerg)
Mission nine - "Rebuilding of the empire" (you rebuild the empire, and try to find and kill the zerg troops left behind, this way they're not a threat and cannot spy anymore)
Mission ten - "Homeworld troops join the fight" (homeworld troops join in on the fight to kill a newly found zerg base on their homeworld, and later decide to join the army for the final battle)
Mission eleven - "In pursuit of the enemy"
Mission twelve - "The crushing blow"

Zerg Campaign

ADDITION: In case you couldn't guess,
Terran has most of its campaign already planned so I think we should start with them first

Tell us more about the characters in the story. Since its your idea, I won't ask for any major changes, but I'd be happy to help you polish up the story and character development and maybe do some of the terrain or write some dialog. If you plan on using that special terrain in starforge or SCMDraft or something, I can't help you cuz I know nothing about that stuff. But I think isometric terrain is best for campaigns anyways.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TERRAINFIGHTER on 2006-05-18 at 21:19:24
I didn't really think it was a good idea to base the story off of a few characters, so I based it off of a army instead
(if you think it should be based on a few characters, I guess I can do that)

as for the terrain, I was asking for Isometric Terrainers, it doesn't require any square terrain
(except possibly in the homeworld missions, but I doubt it, and it won't require much, if any)

How many maps will be all togetter for this campaign? or should i say missions. I would help but i have alot of projects backed up that need be worked on, like some of my RPG Campaigns and other things. If ya need help in idea's in general i can help ya. Anywoot goodluck with this.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TERRAINFIGHTER on 2006-05-18 at 21:29:10
33 missions if we do all three races, or 13 if we did just terran (zerg and protoss are 10 each)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Doodan on 2006-05-18 at 21:29:31
And as I'm sure you know, its boring to just have the type of missions where you build your base and attack the other base. You gotta have lots of variety.

ADDITION:
I think characters are a good thing. You need to give the player something to focus their emotions on. You need people for them to love and hate. While the army thing sounds interesting, it will be hard to simulate the comradery (sp?) that soldiers feel if the player is only JUST NOW meeting their pixel soldiers. Even if that were the case, you'd still need characters within the army like the best friend, the psycho, the genius, the sergeant, etc.

Of course, i loved the terran missions where u had jim raynor and went to hack computers find men, destory enemies lots of fun.

I thought that was enough variety?

And besides, if it's not enough variety, we can always change some of the missions

Isn't too hard do, just say first misison is ya need destory Zerg forces base, on top a Old Terran military compound. Soon as you destory zerg base ya need gain access to old compound and search for any enemy forces within. This just example, duran inside downloading old info from UED or w/e computers trying find a weakness in terran forces. mah i stop ranting now.

do you think it would be okay if the terran training mission was indoors going through differant training rooms?

Count me in for unit placer, if the terrain is good then you wont be dissappointed on my part.

Okay, I guess we can get started

Doodan, did you want to be the Isometric Terrainer? If so, the first map needs to be in the installation tileset

I'm gonna start on the terrain since I dunno if anyone else wanted to,
but it probably won't be very good since I'm a modder and not a mapmaker tongue.gif

You said this was for a mod, right? What affects will the mod have on standard gameplay? Or is this just gonna be a typical campaign?

ADDITION:
What are the mission objectives for the first level? What is the story? Etc...

Uh sorry about that. I try and re-explain.

Terran forces have just landed on topside of a planet, start building up a base to destory all the zerg forces within the area, Must bring 6 Marines, 2 Medics & Jim Raynor to a beacon within zerg base (A Locked Door Doodad on cliff) but for the beacon to work musten be any zerg buildings around. As soon as that's done will load next map, where your inside a old abandoned military facility, that is currently infested with zerg forces. At underground facility ya come to a computer console panel which ya need to hack, shows a video camera of a computer area, durans inside computer area downloading files. Then a timer appears. You and your men have to stop duran before times ends so that he cannot steal important data from old abandoned facility. Well he escapes so doesnt matter, next mission can be your chasing him somewhere ya get shot down and ya need rebuild a base in area because protoss and zerg are fighting in the area..

Does this expalin it better?

Basically, the mod is supposed to be based on a time when the zerg took over and infested the terrans,
and where allies for a while, untill they made seperate armies and slowly became enemies

heres a changes text file where I put all the changes I made (I know, it's mostly minor changes)
[attachmentid=18914]
Just so you know, I didn't enter all the small changes with the terran units, I figured you guys didn't care too much about it
(unlike zerg, their mostly small changes so I didn't remove any)

for the first level (tutorial mission, basically it's a training level, but people can skip it if they want
In this level, you play as a regular marine, going through all sorts of training (like melee training, golliath training, etc)
In order to beat the training level, you must go through all the training missions and survive, if you die then you lose

I'm not sure if DarkArchon(MC) has this or not, if he doesn't then you can,
if he does, then you two will have to decide if you can work together or not

Sounds good, but I don't think I'll add that since it would confuse the people playing it too much
(and would take forever to make, I'd also have to redo the rest of the story to make it fit)

ADDITION: for anyone interrested, heres the tutorial mission's terrain I made already, hopefully it meets your standerds
[attachmentid=18915]

also, I will send the unit placer a copy of the mpq soon so he/she can load it in scmdraft 2 for the maps

ARRRGHH! I can't see the attachments. Could you give us an outline of the story and what planets or tilesets each mission is supposed to take place on. With my campaigns, I had all the worlds and their purposes figured out in my head pretty early on. Reason is, it might not make sense to have the tileset randomly changing from mission to mission.

I still can't DL the attachments. I will get to work once I know the tilesets and have a general idea of the story. If you want to go on msn so we can bounce story ideas off of eachother, add me at doodan21@yahoo.com.

Maybe we should divide the missions up between the people who've agreed to work on it? It'd be best to post a fairly detailed outline before doing so, though.
