Staredit Network -> UMS Showcase -> My Idea For A New Map That Im Making!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by HA-CurSe on 2004-07-24 at 23:40:51
well since defense maps arent my bread and butter mainly cause the goods ones have stack and that option got removed so durring tonights map night i had an idea for a pretty cool map i call it

CollectorS

Main idea:

Well the main idea is you compete against 5 other players (its a 6 player map) you each have your own "strip" of land that you race thru collecting keys to unlock the next area (there will be patrolling units and you will have a certain amount of life) any ways the mazes will get different every time you pass an area

Neat extras:

well if you think that little part was cool wait till you hear this! while your collecting things every once and a while you will get a bonus level if you complete it in the ammount of time that is set on the timer (probably 30 seconds depending on how hard/easy it is) you will get a prize which could be any thing to slow down your opponents which could be something like turning your opponents vultures into reavers for 10 seconds / moving there vulture back to the start / moving there vulture back to start and creating a wall for 20 seconds so they cant get out / moving the vulture off the terrain and onto a plat form for a bit (there will be more once i think of more)

How you win:

be the first one to pass all the mazes (there will be about 20)

How you loose:

Loosing all your lives (probably 10 lives)

well tell me what you think : )

The map sounds kind of interesting.

I highly disagree. Those with stack had the issue that they constantly froze up because too many noob swere playing. I always thought stacking maps were fore wannabe map makers.

The freezing up thing doesn't bother me as much as the fact that the idiots who play the map actually belive it is more effecnt to stack your cannons than to spread them out. (except on corners and places where units slow down or pass twice)

When i play stacked defence maps i constnatly have people make fun of me because they think i don't know how to stack.

the idea sounds cool but if it's just puzzles, it will be like the other guys map..with items wink.gif

as for the stacking things on bnet, people stack because the way it shoots looks cool (experience)

Yes i know why they do it, But there are many who belive it is more effecnt (most of them)

I can't spell today lol

heh well maby the item things but its kind of a new spin on it with the things you can do to the other players to slow them down oh and you choose who you want to do the thing to =) the one who poses most of a threat to you, you might see it done by the end of august but it depends how difficult it gets =)

i think it sounds kinda like a bound only described differently. ohmy.gif

well i ran into a problem i really have to shrink the areas cause i only finished 3 and a half and all my locations were used up : p

Doesn't sound like a bound to me.
In a bound you go around dodging censored.gif .
In this you go through a maze as fast as you can and you have to beat oher players, not the computer's preset obstacles./
Well, the way he explained the latter will be in there too, but that doesn't mean anything, 'specialy 'cause it's in a different manner.

You guys are jerks this is the best idea ever. This will be the most popular map since FASTEST!!! OR ... THAT OTHER FASTEST WITH THE MINZ STAXXeD!1!``!!

Anyway. As long as you throw in special abilities and stuff like each round it could be awesome. Like medic has to use Optical Flare to get through the level, or a defiler has to use dark swarm. Stuff like that would be awesome. I think it is unfair to give the player who is winning powerups though. Basically you'd only be making the rich richer.

It would be nice to also make the mazes randomized.

That'd be edging a little too close to MiniMoose's old idea tongue.gif

Fine then out random units in the maze or some random traps.

it would be nice if i knew how to randomize things the only thing i know how to do is kill the stuff and creat new stuff but not randomize

Well it's your lucky day, because I'm sure somewhere in this site's map tricks archive or in the tutorials is a subject about randomization.

Damn right there is.

Somehow I don't see "randomization" as being the property of Moose. Anyone can use it in their map, and I would highly suggest that you do use it. Randomized levels would increase the replayability of your map to high levels, whereas otherwise it would be next to nothing.
