From what I've heard, there's been plenty of maps not like the game like this. I also heard awhile ago there were unfinished attempts at this map that were like the game (I've played neither). Mine, however, will be like the game.

Sim City

»Idea
Start with 15000 minerals and build the bestest city in the world. There's lots of factors such as taxes, power, city management, crime, and other fun disasters to wreck your city with.

»Buildings
City Management - (Command Center) - Lets you build additional construction crews and otherwise handles city management functions. You can only make 10 other buildings per City Management.

Housing - (Supply Depot) - This is where people live. Every year, taxes are collected from housing units, based on the satisfacation of the people who live there.

Power Plant - (Engineering Bay) - Outputs 40 units of power to your city. Causes pollution, which can anger nearby residents.

Police Station - (Barracks) - Maintains the peace, fights crime, combats disasters. This will make residents feel safer and thus more satisfied. When a disaster occurs in the city, each one makes a certain number of Vultues (police cars) to fight it.

Commercial District - (Academy) - Doesn't increase population, but produces slightly more income than a housing unit. Must have 3 housing units for each Commercial District.

Airport - (Starport) - Allows for trade with other cities, providing both with income. Of course, this entails the possibility of a plane crash (see disasters).

»Concepts
Crime - As population increases, crime will too, thus police power must be built to keep order in a city. If left unchecked, vandals will start striking out at buildings. Eventually, buildings will just get randomly destroyed. At this point, citizens might start getting angry...

Satisfaction Rating - Residents won't pay they taxes or even live in your city if they aren't happy. Be sure to provide enough power, police, and other services to your dwellers, and they'll flock in. If they don't like your management style, they might get pissed off and violent.

Trade - I'm considering the possibility of letting cities trade with each other once they get airports. This would provide some tax income to both parties.

»Disasters
Vandals - If crime is rampant, vandals will attack your buildings causing some damage, which can be repaired. If left unchecked, the vandals will destroy buildings.

Riot - Got poor city management and disatissfied residents? They'll take to the streets and fight the power.

Fire - This one is semi-random. A random building will explode and firebats ("fires") will damage nearby buildings.

Air Crash - Only happens to cities with airports. A plane will crash into a building, destroying it. Fires will probably result Make sure your air routes don't have a lot of intersections. And of course, there's always random ones that don't involve collisions...

Monster - Pretty much random. The RAWRZ ^_^;; Monster or Iron Man might make an appearance and be quite angry. I might use this to take down cities that are "too perfect". wink.gif

»Progress Chart/To-Do List
- Founding a city.
- 10 squares from CC effect.
- Power
- Income
- Police
- Disasters
- More...

I was about to do something like this a while back using all of the dynamics of satisfaction, water, power, waste disposal, crime, natural disasters, residential/commercial/industrial balancing, shipping, ordinances, n' lots more!

yawn.gif

The systesm for this have been developed and its about time someone started putting it together.

I wishya luck with getting this baby up and running...

It better be better than all thoes other sad "Sim City" maps. If it isn't I shall hunt you down and murder you.. but I doubt we will have to come to that. wink.gif

What about fire stations? Are you going to include the things such as land value, aura, fire hazard, traffic, and all that good stuff? Water? Industrial? Schools? Hospitals? Funding? So much more to a city and Sim City than what I see there.. Or is this going to just be a very basic StarCraft SimCity game? tongue.gif
Also Sim City has things like you can make deals with people to help increase the city income.

EDIT:
Trade is also done by putting telephone wires, roads, pipes, subways, and trains at the edge of the area. You can also trade with seaports. (In my city they kept saying "Need a seaport to ship garbage" and "Industry needs larger seaport")

This is going to be kickass. What version are you basing it off of? I had Sim City 2000 and that seems like a good choice because it's simple yet fun.

Well, the only one I've played is Sim City 2000... but I'm really just using the main concepts and going my own way with them.
As for development, I'm starting with the basics and building on to them as I go along. I don't want to add an insane amount of buildings and factors that affect tons of things, because then it gets way too difficult to manage as well as hard to use.

Great concept, just remember to try to keep it random and always different. Anything linear or predictable, or even repetitive will get old fast, but Im sure you already know that cool1.gif

I love sim city, but the pooheads on BNET who make it, create a city to kill all the other citys, are retarted.

This on the other hand, is the game, which will be awsome to play ;D

Kinda gives me and idea for a game, if I could get on b.net >_>

Its going to be awhile before I do any testing, sorry guys. Its just that with OSMap out there and all that other stuff, I can't really trust people.

Anyway, I'm changing the effects of the City Management. Keeping all buildings within 10 squares used triggers that involved a lot of give actions, which would cancel anything you were building. The new limit is 10 buildings per City Management.

I'll try to get up some screenshots soon. smile.gif
