QUOTE(Nightmare RPG Review)
Story
Rofl, you think im gonna give this a high rating, JUST cause i take storylines above all else in Rpgs? seriously? you believe this? HAH! this rpg HAS no story!!, all it is, is, "Survive the Alien Invasion at All Costs" Terrible!!!, 1/10

1 - 1/10

Sounds/Music

I Shouldnt've even added this part, there is no sound or music, 1/10

1 - 1/10

Gameplay

AITE! something i can actually Rate! since there are NO like, normal Heals in the game that dont take items. the gameplays kinda based off Survival. dont use any heals at all and your dead, Use too many heal kits and your dead. Takes alot of skill to Conserve them, but its something everyone can follow. 8/10

8 -------- 8/10

Replayability / Value

Hah. nothing special here, as for Replayability. beat it once, congratulations, you never need to play it again. end of story, no more text, NOTHING. 5/10

5 ----- 5/10

Overall

i Speak truly, there is really nothing special about this map except that its a map that the public can easily play, lol, well, im gonna go with an 6/10, Average map

6 ------ 6/10

AITE! heres the map! enjoy!

Nightmare RPG Adv GT V9.8

Genre: Action/Rpg

Battle System: Real time

Tileset: Installation

Dimensions: ?

I remember this being the second game I've ever played on B.net, back around in 03 or something. This RPG was very very popular, despite its flaws. Simply put, it's a classic amoung b.netters. Back in those days, mapping was not exactly at its peak, so I'll go easy on some ratings. There were quite a few versions that I've played, but the latest(?) that I've played was Adv GT V6 or something.

Gameplay (New category which was requested from Daedalus in some old thread): The gameplay was quite straightforward. Read the instructions, then follow them. What else can I say? I don't think I need this category, so I'm going to remove it in my next review.

Story: It started with the classic crash landing in a hostile error, but then it quickly becomes rather bland as to what the story is. Once you got the engine parts, wouldn't you want to return to the ship and wait it out rather than exploring in some risky place? So then you travel along, and realize the alien infestation is beyond your control and you escape in the end. Sucks for any other ships that comes crashing there in the future.

Terrain: Well, it's an installation, and extended terrain didn't exist back then, so there's alot of simple corridors and some changes between higher ground and lower ground. Since the elevation of the map isn't the same for the entire game, I'll give them credit fomr some variation.

Battle System: You select between some rather interestingly named classes, and they change units upon leveling up, which I thought was one of the funnest aspects of the game, although it's really not up to today's standards. Anyways, there's two special abilities for everyone, and both use a sort of item rather than mana, which means its limited. Depending on which version you play, the medical kit may be a rax or a medic. Other than those features, it's a basic hack n slash.

Originality: It's hard to say, since I haven't played much older RPGs other than Nightmare and some other obscure ones, but at that time, it was possibly original. There's one major thing about this RPG which is overlooked by many critics. It's futuristic, which means you don't see people named 'Archers,' or 'Mages,' or 'Warriors,' etc. That alone accounts for a boost in the originality department, since most RPGs are still in the medieval, pre-medieval, or post-medieval period. Of course, there are some more futuristic themed RPGs around, but not as much as the good old knights and wizard relm.

Complexity: Chances are, if you're careful, then you'll win. The controls are quite simple, and there's not much that you need to hotkey. The only exception to the difficulty are the times when everyone else are just hoarding all the kills and they all leave, one by one, so you're in the end-game with a Lv. 2 character. Now that's bad.

Once again, I'll state that this RPG is flawed, and doesn't have too much features. Although I'm sure there are going to be those that disagree with my ratings, I will have to make several points. First of all, this map is old. It was the time when StarForge was still in the making, X-tra editor was just recently released (well, I don't know about the editor's history, but that's my guess, since people still used Emerald Placer back then), no Koreans were in USWest, bounds dominated the UMS world, players only included 1-8, and P12, and all those other stuff. As for the replay value, that's harder to say, since it is debatable on whether the B.net populace should have an influence over my ratings or not. Considering how widespread the map used to be, I would have to say that it would have a high rating in that category, or else it would've never had such a popularity. However, the learning curve can't get any easier than this, and as an old popular map, it gains the title of a classic. Not legendary or great. Just classic.

Rating Factors:
Story - 2/10
Terrain - 5/10
Battle System - 5/10
Originality - 6/10

Other Factors:
Complexity - 1/10
Replay Value - 7/10
Fun Factor - 4/10
Difficulty - 4/10

4.5 / 10.0 - Overall

You act as if though you're talking to someone, you're not. So can you just say "No story, 1/10," instead of putting all this crap about "seriously," "omg."

And please, stop saying "aite," it's not cool, ghetto, gangster, or even spelt right. It's "aight," coming from "alright."

It's actually completely naturally reworded by the human brain, a form of evolution to improve the human infrastructure. Such as humans evolving to resort to violence less or naturally becoming open or closed to sex subconsciously. Anyway that isn't important but I wanted to state the facts of it, only someone like you is TRYING to sound cool, most people speak it without really thinking about it.

I don't agree with a 1/10 storyline, im pretty sure there was a story... You're on a ship and it crashed or something because you had aliens on board(something like that). You're trying to make it to the escape pods or restore the ship or something like that. I'd have given it a 4-5 on story.

But I agree with Lyon's overall score, sure a 6 is a D but it's over 50% and when you don't refer 50% to grades... that's majority and pretty good. Above average map, I'd reccommend it for a good time.

Oh yeah, Lyon cut with the excessive talk of other stuff(like how you made 3 threads or close them every such n such weeks) it's not needed.

I liked it. It's simple & bloody smile.gif

Allthow the item use system could be done better - instead of moving the medic to the beacon he could make it to work by moving it anywhere, that's much faster and you don't have to loose controll of your heroe.

I would give it a 8/10 in total. smile.gif

nightmare RPG is a very high quality map. it's an older map so it has that retro map making feel that is missing from all the new maps. this gets a 9 from me biggrin.gif
