Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> [SOLVED] Death Counters, Men, and Buildings...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by yoni45 on 2006-05-30 at 12:13:58
Ok, a few questions...

1. Do heroes count as 'Men'?

2. 'Buildings' count for everything thats... well, let's say, can be built by the various races, correct?

Now, when using death counters, if one sets deaths for a particular player to 0 for "Men", will that reset all the deaths for all "Men" units to 0? if used for 'Buildings' would that work as well? This can be used as a condition as well, correct? Say, Player 1 has at most 0 deaths for Men, so it'll fire only when ALL units that fall under the Men category would have 0 deaths...?

Yes ><.... You need to say teh unit.. I use alot of stuff you don't use in maps for death counters.. like Map Revealers and such smile.gif

You got it! It will reset death counts for all the men.. in otherwords, when a player has a guy that has been killed, it sets his 'men death count' up a point, so yes resetting his death score will clear his entire death record for all the men that have died.. You have everything correct, good job!

Hah, I didn't implement it yet... Doing so takes a huge load of work and I want to make sure this will work before delving into it...

Now, setting and checking deaths for Men only applies to Men (not buildings or such), correct? This should be obvious, but I want to make sure...

Also, does setting deaths for Men count for hero units? Kerrigan, etc.?

And the same concept can apply for the "Buildings" category, correct? (again, obvious, but want to make sure heh)

It counts for... all the units that have legs... and can walk.. heros, zer, protoss, terrain!

Buildings count for all the units that can't walk... I guess lifting is kinda walking >_<!

If I understand you correctly, yes.

No. Men seems to be a variable by itself.

No.

No, it would fire as long as you didn't set Men earlier.

I just tested this and it seems that setting Men to 1 does not set EVERY MAN TO 1.
Setting Men to 0 does not reset Marine's deaths.

Setting Men to 1 leaves everything else the where it was but the 'Men' variable is now 1. You can detect that and set it to 0. 'Men' is like a unit by itself.

Ok well, I did some testing on my own... looks like you're right about most of it except for one point...

If a "Men" unit dies, it does contribute to the Men death count, but manipulating the Men death count, unfortunately has no effect on the actual Men units...

Addition:

Manually manipulating the death counts of "Men" units via actions also doesn't have any effect on the Men death count... =/
