Report, edit, etc...Posted by fritfrat(U) on 2006-05-30 at 17:44:18
Public Beta Released!!

Download the map, it's attached. If you see any bugs, spelling errors, etc. of any type, please inform me of them so I can fix it. Once it is confirmed that there are no bugs, I will finalize the map. The anti-hack was crashing players when not hacking, so it has been removed... so play with people you trust, I guess. It is also the same file name I have been testing with all along, so if you've already played with me, you'll want to make sure you use the downloaded version. Thanks in advance for helping me test it out smile.gif

Be sure to read the rules so you don't get aggravated when you realize that the rules you grew up with were wrong... multiple people I have played lost their spy because they thought it could kill anyone when it really can't. Enjoy smile.gif

Stratego 1.0

The Popular Old World Game of Skill and Strategy, brought to StarCraft!

This will imply ALL rules of the original Stratego for the board game, and will basically play out the same.

-Attacking Triggers
[progress]100[/progress]
-Battle Triggers
[progress]100[/progress]

Specifications

-Players
•2 Players, for 1v1. Most likely will allow for 2 observers, in the end.

-Map tileset/size
•Jungle, 64x64. Each square is alternating dirt/jungle in the 40 front squares, with raised jungle/bridge terrain alternating for the 12 squares in the middle.

Features

-Player Interface
Each player will have a corsair to control their peices with. You will only be in control of the corsair during your turn. The map is split in two, with a copy of the playing board on each vertical half. Each player has their own board for their peices, having the enemy's peices copied onto theirs as civilians. This way, they cannot see what the enemy's peices are. Simply cast a disruption web on a unit to select it. After this, re-cast on that unit to deselect it, or cast on an adjacent empty square to move there or an adjacent unit to attack it.

-What's new in your map that others have not done before?
No one has made a board game Stratego StarCraft map before! smile.gif

Screenshots

I never got around to them. My bad.

Made with Production Template (keep this link to help propagate this template or you get smitten!)

I have actually been working on this map for about a month. This is probably the biggest project I have taken on, so I originally did not want to make a map in production thread for it, in fear that I would not finish it. However, I believe that I am far enough along that I am rather positive I am going to finish smile.gif

Expect screenshots within a week or so.

The original board game is 1v1, so that's how I did it for SC.

Anyways, I now officially have all standard attacking, battle, and movement triggers done! smile.gif

EDIT: Moved my "to do" list to the main post.

Looking at that, I can expect it in a week or so, assuming I don't get held up by something. Just whisper me on useast or send me an IM and I'll show you the map so far smile.gif

Report, edit, etc...Posted by fritfrat(U) on 2006-06-01 at 18:19:04
I don't think I will make a demo.. I am close enough to completion that I will just try to go ahead and finish it. I will try to have screenshots up by the end of tonight.

This is a link of the rules of the game, if you want to learn about it.

Wow stratego is a very fun game, I'd like to play this map if my opponet knows what there doing, do you have a set completion goal or date?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by fritfrat(U) on 2006-06-02 at 18:39:53
My set completion goal would probably be 2 weeks, but it all depends on how well everything goes. It could be done in half that time, or it could take a month, depending on how easily everything falls into place. I'll say (again) that I will try to have screenshots up by tonight, though smile.gif

Nice job, I own Stratego at my house. However, I often don't have anyone to play with. I hope you make it as close to the actual thing as possible. (For fun)

so its done? or were there issues?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by fritfrat(U) on 2006-06-04 at 22:43:09
Issues would be final exams and me procrastinating. There actually were extremely small issues in what I said was already done- specifically, if both units were equal rank and both died in a battle the turn didn't end. That's fixed now, though. Now I just need to do my to-do list, and some of the stuff, such as the scouts and winning when no moves left, are going to take a lot of time to figure out.

I remove ending triggers and added de-uglify the terrain to my to do list wink.gif

you could always have an agree to draw button, if that could work out even if its not in the real game

Is there going to be options to change it from Classic? or is it only Classic style?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by fritfrat(U) on 2006-06-06 at 13:57:10
I wasn't aware of any popular gametypes that people played that WEREN'T classic style. What ideas did you have in mind?

And also, as far as release date is concerned, I won't be working on it much until my finals are over.. so don't get too excited tongue.gif. I WILL make a promise that it will be done before the end of June, even though I hope it doesn't take that long.
