Roaming is the kind of rpg that i like the best.....
But only some guidline rpgs are good. Ex. Kingdom Hearts Roaming around is only good if there is a hell of a storyline with different ways to accomplish it. Also there should be many things to do while you roam around. otherwise it's quite boring. But yea, I like roaming RPGs way better because of the freedom and it is possible to use logic and different solutions to the quests. Guidelined on the other hand, you have to quess what solution the makers made for each quest.
Roaming but to a point where there is a path to follow, runescape has too much roaming I think. I would more likely make a game like diablo then runescape! I voted for guidelined! I agree with DEAD!
Yea, runescape is a terrible example because it sucks ass. Good roaming RPG examples are:
- TES3: Morrowind
- Arcanum
- Fallout, Fallout2
I'd say a good RPG would let you pick sides, sich as Deus Ex: Invisible Wars. I got to choose how I went through the story, but it followed a set storyline.
I guess a little bit of both.
I greatly prefer Free-Roaming TES-style RPGs.
Reminds me of the good ol' days... wondering aimlessly though the vast desolate wastelands of Daggerfall. (Elder Scrolls 2)
Sure, you were free to do what you wanted, but there wasn't really much to do.
In Daggerfall, trying to get from one town/dungeon to another on foot is a nightmare, there are miles and miles of terrain between towns, most of it empty, just hills and trees. Somtimes you'd find a bear or a wolf or something. Sometimes it would kill you and put you our of your misery.
A little freedom in a RPG is good, but don't go overboard.
Fallout is a good example of what to do. RuneScape is a good example of what NOT to do. =p

I keep hearing that runescape is bad but why I think its a pretty fun game does it just have too much to do? In my opinion that keeps u playing longer

There are a lot of things wrong with the gameplay of RuneScape in general but that's actually not why I don't like it.
What I
really don't like is the player base that seems to be completely and totally immature, comprised of 10-15 year-olds almost exclusively. Ick! =P
Guidelined is pretty fun. Personally I don't like runescape because I like knowing where I need to go not running around for hours trying to find it out.
guidelined! runescape is the worst game in the world. graphics sux and etc
