Staredit Network -> Lite Discussion -> Hating your parents
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Golden-Fist on 2006-06-03 at 10:37:27
This topic may seem a little bit foggy to me due to personal expirences. But basically I'm sure there are some kids on your block or that you know that hate there parents. I've heard things like "You shouldn't hate your parents" but I've never really heard a good reason why not to. "They brought you into the world" is not an excuse. I'm sure there are some kids who'd rather be an aborted fetus then have the parents they have. I've also heard things that you just shouldn't hate your parents, and that it's impossible. So what's your opinion on this?

The excuse they brought me to the world cannot replace the abuse that they can give you in their house. That doesn't have to do with anything.

It is such a stupid excuse to say "they brought you to this world." heck.. There isn't a line of baby souls waiting to be born at heaven or something. It is just born. Don't mention it.

I think everyone has the right to hate anybody they want. Parents can be a real pain in the rear....

Yes they did raised you through all the pain you can ever imagine. But that debt doesn't exist infinitely. There is a certain point in life when you no longer owe anything to them. They can drag you around everywhere.

There are two extremes of parents. Those who allow anything and those who allow nothing. Geneally, the former is liked, and the latter is hated. It's all a balance of the two that makes the best parent.

I, for one, like my parents. There are certain rules I don't like, such as one I'm experiencing now, no going to people's places w/o a parent there.

I know many people who despise their parents, when all it is is that they're being limited (for their own good), so it's all perspective.

Here's an example of an extreme parent: http://forums.mapletip.com/index.php?showtopic=57381

yeah, my mom doesn't let me do anything fun. she thinks since my friends are teenagers, that means they do drug, get drunk and do really stupid things.

indeed they dont... she doesn't trust me to do anything....

I've not done anything to make my parents distrust me, but I know as soon as I do, they'll never let me go anywhere, never let me do anything. That's why I stay a good kid, so I can do stuff.

Well, if you hate your parents so much, you should try living on your own tongue.gif

Your parents spend a lot of money on you, ever since you were born.

And it's pretty natural for a teenager to dislike their parents -_-

I knew someone would bring that up. But there are different cases. I don't think it's "pretty natural" for a parent to hate their own kid by threatening them every day? And if the only reason that you like your parents is because they give you a place to sleep, then there's obviously something wrong with the relationship.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathawk on 2006-06-03 at 11:50:48
Oh, yeah, in that case your parents suck. But hating your parents for being too strict, or not letting you do what you want is stupid. Most teenagers dislike their parents for that reason. And most of the time parents make those decsions for their own good -_-

Your parents are supposed to introduce you to life and the world. Your parents should be the ones you trust the most and the ones you turn to in times of trouble. I believe you can never actually 'hate' your parents. Its easy to disregard, however, if any one of your parents die today you will suffer some case of depression. Unless your a lifeless, selfish, illegitimate child.

The average parent will spend around $300,000 from 1-18 years on a child. What advantage do they get from it?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Toothfariy on 2006-06-03 at 11:54:50
i never asked to be born. i never asked them to give me anything. if they wanna make and exuse for "bringing you onto this earth", thats nothin. your the one who has to deal with the stress of being a teen and finding a future.

i think there is an equal level of stuff to complain about on both sides but i think parents have less room to talk about it. if they complain about how much money they spent on you, then why did they bring you into this world?

and they dont know whats for your own good. i know what is stupid and what i should and shouldn't do. yet, my mom is uber protective.

if my mom died today, i wouldn't mind that much. other that im only 15. i can't really drive or make a lot of money to live on my own sad.gif but of course i would kinda be sad, but i'd get over it in a few days.

I love my parents very much. I have absolutely no reason to hate them.

Sure they might get a bit annoying, but still they're my parents who really care about me.

You shouldn't hate your parents unless they beat you like Toothfariy's.

If my mom died the only thing that I'd be depressed about is for selfish things. Like I wouldnt' be able to buy that many games anymore, or get anything new for a while. And I'd have to walk to my guitar lessons, and move out of the house. Though the absence of her personality around the house, would not be missed. More like the money she brought in.
That sounds very cruel but she really is a female dog.

Children these days see extreme cases of abusive parents, and naturally assume that their own parents know nothing, and therefore refuse to listen to them. They therefore go through their adolescent life rebelling against all authority, breaking rules and laws, and dropping the world maturity level. The scourge of today's media certainly doesn't help.

Your parents truly want the best for you, except in extreme rare cases. This is not your case.

So because my mom is a complete female dog it's my fault? And it's also my fault that some kid thinks fart jokes are funny?

There's no position you can get in the world to be allowed to say that. You know nothing of anyone's lives on this fourm, you can't just generalize people due to a statistic. They have lives you know, and it's insulting for you to just place them in a category.

Truly want the best for you my ass.

Love my parents strongly I do.

A few restrictions such as when/how long I play (less then two hours sad.gif ) and things like that are annoying, though. There are plenty of people in my class who apparently hate their parents.

No, it's your fault you can't step back and recognize that perhaps she actually cares. I can't know everyone's life, but I can say I'm rather certain that truly abusive parents are not those of the 60% of SEN that seem to think their parents hate them.

60% of SEN didn't say they hated their parents though, or 20%, or 5%, or 3%. And there are a lot of levels you can hate your parents on. It's still possible to hate your parents even if they don't beat you or anything. I doubt my mom telling me to do stuff that she can do herself but is too much of a lazy freak to do it herself is "For my own good". And I doubt that she's a bitch to my dad and sister is "for my own good". If you say so yourself that you can't know everyone's parents then don't act like you do by bringing statistics.

You seem to miss out a great chunk of people who actually do abuse their children... I mean, my parents never laid a hand on me. But, the aunt that I currently live with constantly beats down her son because he is not doing all that great job in controlling himself.

But that maybe is the minority population.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by yeow on 2006-06-03 at 14:51:52
My mom grew up in South America, and down there, giving your children beatings was very normal and encouraged. Aparently, in school, if you were doing some wrong or whatever, you'd have to hold out your hand and get slapped with a ruler, and parents used belts on their children. Which my mom attempted to carry out on me when I was 14, but my mom is short and not very strong so I would just steal the belt out of her hands when she would try to hit me with it.

My dad once stole my computer from me for around 2 weeks because he had me in a choke hold, and I broke out of it and put him in my own.

So do I hate my parents? Back then, yes I did. The story about my mom occured around 2 years ago, but the one about my dad was like 2005. They have stopped hitting me like that, so I guess I do like them now.

I don't hate my parents but, my friend pretty much can't stand his parents. His dad is a teacher at our high school. He will go to classes and spy on him or ask teachers and students about things. His parents wouldn't let him go out with a JR because they said she was just going to use him for the prom. His father can be a major duesch bag.

I don't hate my parents. I guess you can say I am in good terms with them. There are times where I really get mad at them because they said stupid things but I don't really hate them. I know some friends who hates their dad or mom because they divorced and the like. That kind of happened to me and I really did hate my mom for being so selfish about it but now it has gotten better... a bit.
