Is the United States lazy?
I wanted this to be a Poll so you could see the results but please post your opinion!

Due to certain things that are coming up, technology and fast food, I think that the U.S. is becoming lazier and lazier.

The United States's schools used to be number 1 in the world and if not 1 then they were 2 or 3! The United States went from number 1 in Math to 15th in 3 years. So that shows that schools in the United States are slowing, or the other countries found some geniuses.

Everyone already knows this one, Computers have been gettig children to sit on their butt for many hours at a time looking at a screen. (guilty) If not computers then game consoles (XBOX, PS). Adding to this, America has become a fast food country, McDonalds and Buger King and Wendy's have completely taken over. The U.S. is becoming fatter too, obese people are coming up everywhere. Unfortunatley I dont have any numbers for you, but I remember them to ber around 75% of all children under the age of 18 in the U.S. are either obese or overweight. Obese is when you have over a 30% body mass index and overweight is 20-25 to 30 or something like that.

Not just USA, the whole world... just maybe it's not so fast in other countries.

Ya I agree, but I think it is worse in the US because places like China were always right behind the US in like 2nd or 3rd are still up there! The US could have a big downfall in schools then that downfall leads to bad leadership for the US in the long run and then the US is one big poor country!

America is just becoming dumber and dumber, basically.

Pretty sad that all the people think that this country is rapidly falling downhill when we are citizens of this country! Every country to this date that has been on top has had a massive downfall. Example: Rome! Is this countries downfall soon to come.

There is a big difference, though. We're not being attacked by Vandals and Vizigoths sad.gif

As we all know, our country is one of the most powerful nations today, but IMO what's making us go downhill isn't because of our policies/government/economy, but it's because of the degrading of our people.

Only a few Examples:
- Music. In the past there were tons of great artists and bands. They were all like in their 30s or older. They were all good, musically AND vocally. Today's bands however, many of them can't sing worth crap and must rely on sound editing to sound good. As far as their talent goes, most of them can't compare to the past; they'd look like noobs.
- Celebrities. In the past, notice how all of the celebrities were celebrities because of their acting/singing skills and not just their hotness and sexiness? Actors of the past like Henry Fonda were famous not because of their looks but because of their talent. Whereas people like Brad Pitt and even Jessica Alba. Most of their fame comes from their looks, not because of their talent.
- Lack of creativity. When it comes to writing movies and such, nowadays there's just alot of remakes. Whether it's a remake of a past movie, based off a book, or based on a true story, the script isn't original. I want to watch movies in which I have no clue what's going on. There's so many movies based off already formed stories, why can't some of these script writers make up their own damn stories?
- Our food. Ok, what kind of food is "american?" Hamburgers? Cheeseburgers? French Fries? Cmon is that the best we can do? Any other country can make it's own unique style of food, but howcome we're stuck with foods that make our cholestrol skyrocket and packing alot of fat onto our bodies?
- Family. In the past, family was really really important and everyone treasured it. Now look at us today. Most teens in our country absolutely HATE their parents; they can't wait to get away from them. And if these teens are so rebellious and are raised in such a bad way, imagine what kind of parent's they'll be like. Imagine how much worse their kids will be.

First of all, the Middle East is just a blur of destruction. Even if the US does enable a working gov't in Iraq, some insurgent will blow the capital up. You can kill a terrorist, of course, but the idea of terrorism will never die. 66% of Americans are overweight or obeist. That means over the limit that there body or age can handle... The main reason is Bush... that sums it all up. The gov't is letting in idiots. Bush has terrible approval ratings and Cheney has the worst in the whole history of the US gov't. How the hell do you accidently shoot someone while quail hunting? Also, the new 70 billion dollar tax cut isn't helping anyone but the rich people. Bush: "Steal from the poor and give to the rich!" Ex. Because of the tax cut, the Canadian dollar which was MUCH lower than the US dollar, has risen a lot and is around 97ยข. All because of Bush... Thank god he can't run again.

I voted no. How is the US becoming lazy? because the obecity rate is going up? That doesnt mean much because adults who work and sit at a computer arent being lazy. They are doing work. Kids go to school everyday and do work. Everyone has to do work.

How does that remotely relate to approval ratings and politics? How is it Bush's fault that people are becoming obiese? And how can you stereotype obiese people with being lazy? Seems like people want to blame all of their problems on somebody else and not take responsibility. "If" the USA was going down the drain, I would blame it on the citizens.

No, most kids go to work because their parents force them to and then do nothing whatsoever.

I agree with MA on all accounts. Oh, and there's no 'American' food of any value because our food is just.. other foods mixed together. America is like the successful leftover country (a bit of everything), so we can't really claim to have our own foods, right? That went off-topic :/.

Anyway, in America almost everyone has the opportunities to become wealthy, but why don't they? Because they're lazy (or extremely unlucky; not most cases, though). Want to get into {insert topic here} instead of being a janitor? Buy a book on {insert topic here} and learn about it. It isn't that hard nor unbelievably expensive (though the common $50 books get annoying).

Yep. We can't blame the government for idiotic people. Well, we can a bit; they can do a few things to help, but not a lot.

I don't think that the U.S.A. is becoming lazy. If we are becoming lazy, new weapons and new technology wouldn't be advancing.

I'm American and never get lazy. I'm in the Military, and you can't be lazy once you have joined. And there are alot of people recruiting into the Military and alot of people are already enlisted.

Finally, if America ever becomes that lazy. Then we deserve to be blown off the face of earth. We wouldn't be able to fight back because we are to lazy. I don't see that ever happening.

To do great things is difficult; but to command great things is more difficult. We are still masters of our fate. We are still captains of our souls.

No we haven't. We were never and never will be. If we were so lazy, then why are we a super power? We didn't get there because of Bush, we got there because of out technology. And technology increases with hard work.

I don't see why people think Americans are lazy. Aren't germans lazy? How about the Chinese? And the Japanese? Aren't they lazy?

i'm going to say yes and no(though i voted yes) They aren't lazy as nothing is getting done, it's more lazy for the little things. For example: getting the tv romote, Making supper, Healthy lives. Usually the average american works and works to stay alive in this society because of it's expansive but well deserving rewards. But in general, the Us is because more fatty and lazy as the days go by.

So my parents didn't become wealthy because they were lazy? That logic makes no sense. For example : Janitors work hard everyday and they arent wealthy. My mom is a nurse and when she has to go and work she works her ass off and she isnt wealthy. Their are more factors than lazyness. Like being born into poverty, bad parents/abusive parents, not having the smarts, ect..

Good point n2o. The civilians aren't lazy and are you trying to refer in the government being lazy?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Choerdius on 2006-06-08 at 16:23:27
It all depends on what kind of career you are into. For example, if you work at McDonalds you really don't do any hard work, but you get a large sum of money every two weeks.

There harder the job, the more money. See? If you want money, you won't be lazy. And I'm sure every American wants money. So they work hard, and arent lazy.
