Staredit Network -> Terrain -> Installation AND Desert Terrain

I got really bored yesterday so I made a 64x64 installation map and I made a bunch of combos with the terrain similar to WoodenFire's layout on some of his terrain maps in his topic. I left out some stuff because mainly I was just using the terrain and doodads and it was a small map.

\\Important: If you're going to download the attachment, don't click on it. Follow this:
1) Right click on the link and click 'Save Target As...'
2) Choose the folder. Choose 'All Files' (Look for HTML Document In The Save Box) and put .scm/.scx at the end of the file.

If you dont add the .scm/.scx, you won't be able to play it. I put map revealers and units to help you test the mobility of the terrain. You can rate it, I don't really care if you think it sucks, I got bored.

I don't really see that much new stuff... mostly mirrors.

O:

4/10

Good compilation except, I wish you used a 256x256 so you didn't confine yourself to such small restraints, probably missed quite a few things doing that...

Im going to give this a 7, only because i can use it. Its a ton of simple mirrors i was too lazy to make up. (Dont start flamming me yet again, DL it and youll see what i mean.)

However a few things on it, dealing with the door pieces, plates, and doors converted to those thing lines, look very cool.

Well thanks for the insights Wooden, I'll remember that next time I make another terrain map, which is probably going to be today, I'll just ignore the Jungle Terrain since you pretty much have that covered. wink.gif I'll probably make a Space Platform to Twilight map. I'll try to not make so many mirrors. wink.gif

Yes I know there's a lot of mirrors. Jeez... You can't be too creative with the Installation Terrain like you can with the Jungle but I do know I left out a lot of stuff, like the counters and tables that you can do. I know. Right now I'm doing a 128x128 Desert Map, not that many people use desert, but I don't really care. wink.gif

3/10, all mirrored stuff like people have said and none of it is really helpful at all or new.

My advice: Do what Tux did in badlands, but in unused and unexplored tile sets. Twilight, Desert, and Ice are great ones to try out. I love all 3 tilesets and with some examples on terrain i could use them for maps.

That's exactly why I'm doing the desert one. I'm like... 50% done with it, I've been working on it since before noon today. I've used about 43% of the whole map. With whatever is left over, I'm going to create a little arena with extended terrain. Without triggers of course, but I'm going to use my Dropship and units feature in this map so you can explore it. I just finished splicing the dead animal hanging on the edge of the cliff above the tarpit merge and it looks REALLY cool. Looks like a dead guy, with bones of course, handing over the wall. Or an alien anyway. I'll try to finish it tonight or tomorrow morning.

ADDITION:
Alright! I finished my Desert Terrain map. Finally... I've been working on it for about 8 hours. Same layout as the Installation Terrain map. I still have a few mirrored terrain on it but the other half is a combo, you may not be able to tell if its a doodad or extended because that's how good I am. wink.gif I made some midget ramps and bridges, pretty cool. The Ultralisk can pass on the bridge but it can't go up either of the midget ramps. Forgive me for being sloppy but I added some Sprites, specifically trees, to help make the terrain not look as blotchy and sloppy. I'll probably do a twilight or space platform one next, since WoodenFire already made an Ice Terrain one.

You must've only looked at the middle. wink.gif I did that to take up space. Like I said, some of the terrain looks really good, as if they were doodads. It's mainly small stuff, but yes, there are some mirrors. I'm not making an uber RPG so I'm not gonna go over the edge on the terrain like WoodenFire on his RPGs.

mirrors: no no

Sweet custom doodads(no mirrors): Muy Bien!

Instead of making database style maps, you should work on one piece at a time and really put some thought in it. Not saying that I dont make databases for brush backups, but I would rather see a two hour piece that looks way sweet, instead of an 8 hour piece that is just every doodad mirrored and a few modified doodads. Good luck with your next batch.

Database maps are much more productive then making maps...

Crescent Dyne, if it wasn't for the "no-ramp-repeats" concept, I would of lost a year of blending research...

Once I am free from my map making projects, and imbetween when no one is watching smile.gif I always explore my limitless ideas and ideal blends that I hope to piece together...

Jungle is the most unexplored tileset, without exception.

No, I think Jungle has just about been exhausted by you WoodenFire. wink.gif I'm going to start on an Ice map but I still have yet to decide if I want it to be an RPG or a database map... Either way it's going to be a 256x256. I could just finish the terrain for the ice, and then post it then decide if it's going to be an RPG... Yeah... That...
