Right now, we have too few mods spread over too many forums. By this, I mean we are letting way too much spam and useless things go unnoticed. SEN, being a dictator and all that, should get more people to watch over the Members.

I am not suggesting simply getting more mods and slapping them on some random forum. I think we should get people who are good in their respective element to be in their own forum. For example, if someone were to contribute to the Programming forum a lot and obviously knows quite a bit, they should be a mod on that forum and strictly enforce the rules there.

Keep in mind that we're not limited to just people we know. Anyone that seems to contribute quite a bit will work, even those with very few posts. Thus, this is not limited to "special" people as the opportunity is now open to everyone and those who are truly special, even though they may not have been here long, will get a chance to be on the staff.

Of course, this would require quite a bit of searching. A news post explaining this more in detail might get those who know a lot to say this. I think this idea's advantages far outweigh any disadvantages for these reasons:

-More moderators focused on their own topic. This means mods can actually read every post and make sure everything is in check.

-People will be better overall. I've noticed that if you put a person as a mod, their entire attitude will change; they'll be more mature and understanding. Most importantly, I think they may even stop and think before replying! shocking.gif

In short, members should be better overall ("competition" wink.gif) and spam and flame should drop significantly. Questions? Ask please!

I can't really say I'm for making someone a mod just because 6 of their 7 posts are in one forum. Perhaps we need more moderators; but what I think is we need more of our current ones to be active.

I also said that person must be knowledgable in that area. If 6 posts clearly show that he/she is able, then so I will support that person being a mod.

However, I highly doubt 6 posts will be able to do that. Being the person I am, I can't dismiss possibilities.

As for your suggestion, I don't think "active staff" will do as much as my idea. This is because while the staff may be active, they can't read everything. We don't have dedicated moderators per forum. We have ones that are spread out and do a good job overall but can't really contribute to some.

We do, they're just not very active. The main thing I'm opposed to is giving some brand-new member, however s/he appears, a job.

Yeah, this is why I'm trying to switch around mod spots so moderators get forums they're interested in and actually read/post in. I'm also trying to hire some speciality moderators, too.

And sorry CheeZe... I don't foresee anyone with 7 posts, or even under 50 getting a mod spot anytime soon. Not even Choerdius before he got busted. tongue.gif

I don't see it happening either (as I said already), but I don't want to discriminate and destroy the possibility.

Do you guys see my point? Rather than having the ratio of mods per forum be at 1:4, it should be 1:1. That way, all the posts can be read.

"Busted?"

What happened to Choe?

We can always try mass peer pressure: whenever someone spams or flames, we put a blinking red dot on that post, which will encourage every other member to haze and lightly tase (instead of a tactical nuke) the corresponding spammer. "Shut up n00b" is so much more effective coming from 50 members.

Seriously though, the spam/flame thing is mad hard to take care of. Some people just don't grow up, though growing up is the only way they'll ever learn.
