Staredit Network -> UMS Showcase -> Exodus

-Exodus-

I am nowhere near a computer that has SC right now, so I haven´t started this, but I was wondering if you all had any suggestions or ideas for this. It should be a very fun map to make and play.

Weapons (Names to be changed)
-Marine
--Machine Gun
-Ghost
--Sniper Rifle
-Firebat
--Flamethrower
-Zealot
--Unarmed

Each unit is its own weapon, change weapons by unloading the unit from the shuttle (This eliminates the need to look away from your mainscreen). You cannot unload a unit while enemies are near, or during a fight (For HP reasons).

Utilities
-Grenade
--Infested Terran is created at your active weapon for your computer player (See below) and then ordered to attack. This ability cannot be used while no enemies are near.
-Morphine
--Heal current weapon.
-Smoke Grenade (If it works)
--Like a Dark Swarm for the casting player. Please give me ideas on this. I was thinking, what makes a Dark Swarm protect only the units of one player? Could this be manipulated in UMS? (Preplaced Dark Swarm for each player? Give Dark Swarm?)
-C4 Explosive
--There will be some things, doors, walls and such that cannot be moved without force. Will do damage/kill to units too.

These abilites will be used with a Dropship, making hotkeying much easier.

Computers
There will be 3 active players, and 5 Computers. Each human will have one computer that will fight with them. Along the way on the map, you will find and "Recruit" men. You will not be able to control these men, but they will follow you and their kills will be attributed to your squad (Experience for kills). A maximum number of men will be determined. You can recruit a Marine, Ghost, Firebat, and a Dog (Names will be changed).
The other 2 computers will be used in conjunction with p12 to create a fully functional RPG map. One will be enemy, and the other neutral.

====
This is not going to be a "Kill all" RPG, there will be substantial death and destruction, but the tools and your brain must be used. Using Yoshi´s developments in Terrain using SF, the whole map will be used, you can enter buildings (Transported to another location on the map) Most missions will be discovered inside buildings, encouraging player involvement with the map.

Terrain will play an integral part in the map. It will not be a "Show Off" thing, it will actually be used.
====

Buildings
Some buildings and there abilites so far developed include:
Building -- Utility available -- Shape -- Other
-Police Station -- Smoke Grenade -- Tall, fat -- Upgrade Weapons
-Control Tower (Airport) -- Radio, Civilians -- Tall, thin -- End game
-Warehouse -- Everything -- Flat, Fat -- Missions
-Business Tower -- Civilians -- Tall, high -- Missions
-House -- Everything -- Small -- Civilians
-Park -- Weapons -- Fluid -- Missions
-Strip Mall -- Weapons -- "L" shape -- Dog
--Gun Shop
--Pet Shop
-Apartments -- None -- Undefined -- Civilians, Missions
-Hospital -- Morphine -- Cross -- Heal all weapons

When you enter a building, like in many other maps, you will be taken to another part on the map. Also, in buildings with many floors (Air Control Tower) You will have to go up several floors. In the hospital, when you are healing you are unallied vision with yourself and you have to wait a bit, just to break up the game. Also, I will try to keep the map size down by using SCFreeSounds and small compressed sounds, so that it can be played on battle.net.

Please keep in mind that I am not a newb just because I don´t have more than 2,000 posts. happy.gif

I´m currently working on a story and unit names, so you wont be fighting with a "Terran Marine", don´t worry. Any Questions? Comments? Concerns? Ideas?
Thanks

Only one person has 2k post+ why you say this...
Most people are under 200.

You can't do damage to a door, you will need to place a unit, maybe zerg egg to destroy it. The egg might be a control panel or a button.

This map reminds me a lot of Yoshi's Matrix map.

He read as the description of the forum "Share ideas" so he shared his idea of his RPG... which the forum ment "Share ideas of Starcraft" like the P14 research and stuff. Should be moved, and I agree with Beer Keg.

im too lazy to read all those, but i saw one thing. Zealot-unarmed? Zealot has 2 blades... why unarmed?

dark swarm can't be modified to protect only units of one single player

The first part of the description, about the changeable weapons/units, reminds me a lot of some installation map I played once. It was somewhat of a puzzle/escape theme, but it was still somewhat interesting.

But reading on, it looks like its gonna be much more than that. Sounds like a map I definitely wanna try. smile.gif

Because Zealot blades are the clostest thing to fists in the SC world.

Well keg, I wasn´t planning on damaging the door, just destroying it and doing damage to any nearby units.

And will someone please move this topic to the right forum. (Also, if someone has already mentioned that it is in the wrong forum, you need not repeat (The point gets across))

Could someone please experiment with the Dark Swarm thing for a little? When I get home I will try, but if it doesn´t work do you guys have anymore (valid) ideas? Maybe it could just be move a swarm and make the active unit invincible, then move the swarm away... Help me out here
Report, edit, etc...Posted by PCFredZ on 2004-07-27 at 14:52:46
ahem... YOU CAN'T MODIFY DARK SWARMS TO PROTECT UNITS OF ONE SINGLE PLAYER. need i repeat that? you also can't move dark swarms, period. these all from a Dark Swarm topic made a while ago, so i can understand if you never took the time to read them, so sorry for the CAPS. anywho, you CAN move disruption webs, but likewise you can't modify them to protect only 1 player... and if you want to use Invincibility triggers, they why bother using dark swarms and disruption webs at all? don't waste your time testing

"You will not be able to control these men"
GOOD. God I hate mercanaries.
It just takes out some of the fun if I'm capable of controlling my mercenaries as well as I can my own character....
"im too lazy to read all those, but i saw one thing. Zealot-unarmed? Zealot has 2 blades... why unarmed?"
What BeerKeg said, it's the closest(though I prefer Zergling, being as it's faster).

Paella you seem rather defensive though intelligent and I like this map. Even if you could move dark swarms, you probably wouldn't want to, because they could end up overlapping the enemies and you wouldn't be able to attack them. Someone said this sounds like Yoshi's map... except oh wait.. not it censored.gif ing doesn't. This sounds like a great map idea that I'm surprised hasn't been done before, at least not in this way. Zealots are the best unit for "Unarmed" action combat, not zerglings. Especially if you are thinking "humanoid". As for the smoke grenade thing.. you could give the player a Terran Medic for a few seconds with enough energy to use Optical Flare once. That's the closest thing I can think of to a smoke grenade.

In regards to Dark Swarming, this could be used as a signal for High Altitude Bombing Raids, shortly after casting A) you could use a nuke as the bomb (though you would need a ghost belonging to the computer nearby and an armed nuke in a silo) or B) just explosions created by unit deaths. Just a speculation... don't take me seriously if you don't want to! crazy.gif

As well... the names of units are a bit *sniffs* iffy, unproffesional, and overused. You should probably look in to doing some research and finding better names.

For one thing (said this too many times...), you can't move them in the first place. If it IS possible, what you said wouldn't happen if the player is melee. Dark swarms are confusing, sometime I've actually taken damage inside them from ranged attacks... bleh

You want to use Dark Swarms in this fashion, through triggers you can do a lot with them, so yeah you can make units underneath invincable, using triggers cleverly.

Darkswarms are all owned by Player 12, (which explains why ALL units that go under it recieve its ability) and such you must know how to use Player 12 triggers if you wish to do anything with it.

Most people with knowledge use the Swarm CREATED by the Defiler as a target location, and with that in place, centre a location on "1" Dark Swarm owned by Player 12, and normally remove it, and then do what they want in the place the swarm was.

This could mean making a large location which centres on the darkswarm and renders all units underneath it invincable for a set period, and then gets rid of it afterwards. (Remember to do it over the map, because they might leave it)

Also, this really only works with a limit of 1 Dark Swarm at a time (else it might go mad) and so either have it set to high amount of energy or lower energy levels.

Thats how you can use it. And remember preplaced Dark Swarms don't actual have any effect if they are not owned by Player 12 or by the units hiding underneath them in question, who don't own it.

Player 1 owns Dark Swarm - Player 2 won't get cover from long ranged fire...Simple!

Moving them, i can't remember if Player 12 can be moved, but if it can, then yes you can move it. Hope this helped.

I agree, I hate it when you're a hero and yet you still have control over enemy units.

For smoke grenades, maybe you could use arbiters somehow. I'm still not really sure how dark swarms work after all this (short term memory aint' so great) but perhaps you could use dark swarm as an effect and create an arbiter over it.

First off, thank you salacious. And second, coko that information helped very much. Does anyone know why dark swarm is a unit but it cannot be moved? And if I understand correctly, it has now effects. Is that true about disruption webs? I just want something over my unit and then I will make it invincible. If the web doesn't screw with my units, then that could just as easily be used, assumig it moves.

could you guys help me think of missions? I was going to do something with a fire and savign people, but I need more ideas. Remember, this is supposed to be an abandoned city, not with a lot of people. The bugs have run most humans away. Any other good ideas for gameplay?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by PCFredZ on 2004-07-31 at 11:14:39
disruption webs CAN be moved

have terran buildings on fire (HP to 10% or something) and when player brings say a vespene tank and a burning building ("water bucket") to a location that moves with the player's probe/scv/drone, set health for the building to 100% and add one point for the player.

good idea pcfredz, but what other missions, i was thinking about some covert thing when you go alone to destroy a key zerg. or rescue a civilian from the zerg, something like that.

do you guys think that the thing with the computer following someone is a good idea? I like the idea of only controlling on efighting unit at once. do you?

when a disruption web is moved does it have any efect at all? If not I am all set with the smoke grenade thing.

computer following you sounds easy, just set it on constant patrol on the player's location, right? wrong! the unit will only attack things between IT and YOU, but anything on the other side of you might not be noticed, especially of the unit's a melee fighter... the AI Script "patrol to upper left corner" might work, i dunno...

I need some ideas for the unit names, if you would be willing to help me...
And always more help with the missions. How could I incorporate an assassination into this game? Killing a head of a hive or something?
