Actually, the average basketball player makes more than the average doctor, unless the average doctor makes over $1M dollars.

We'll start with that. WTF!?
Doctors are underpaid? I'm not saying doctors are overpaid, but doctors make a very comfortable living.
However, the average basketball player making over $1M dollars? Wow. How many basketball stars are there out there at any given moment? 100? 200? How many basketball players out there don't make it?
Thousands. And they make squat.
The idea that on average, basketball players make over $1M is just ... Wow.
Anyway, moving on. Those that get paid all that money, they get paid that money because they're *supposed* to be the best at what they do. The
best. And the best of every profession gets paid alot. Doctors, Lawyers, Businessmen, Architects, etc. etc. The elite few who can be considered the best of these get rewarded very well, and arguably, they likely get rewarded better than any of these basketball stars or celebrities.
The richest man in the states isn't a 'basketball star' nor an actor. He's a computer geek who made his fortune off of a business opporunity.

And how would entertaining us help the world? You cannot seriously be trying to justify their income through their "ability" to entertain. (Quotes used because they don't entertain me)

Enterntainment helps the world by just that, enterntaining. If you don't find them enterntaining, that's really your own personal opinion. However, a whole bunch of people in this world do, and they're willing to pay them to keep doing what they do.
