Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> [SOLVED]A Name for each player unit?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by ZiQi on 2006-06-13 at 20:39:55
I know its possible to rename a unit to a name you want, but I am wondering if its possible to rename a unit a different name for each player. Say Player1's scv is renamed to COOL and Player2's scv is renamed to YES ect ect.. If its possible could you do it in StarForge/Draft and how~~ Thanks!

Thats possible in warcraft 3 mapping, EUDs and mods made sc better like wc3 but blizard had to freak with it and make sc worse AGAIN...damn blizzard.

In WC3 I suppose you could make multiple copies of the same unit and give them different names, unless there's some better way I don't know about.

I realize that there is now way to do this, I knew this before too! But why would you want to know how to do this, what would you use it for? What kind of map are you making?

Yes it was. You could make a scrolling name on a unit if you wanted.

Even if you could do that, how it even remotely related to player-specific unit names?

It would have been possible anyhow, not through that method, but a different. Anything was possible with EUD. It's patched, so it doesn't matter.

Totally absurd. EUDs could do a lot of stuff but they were still very limited.

Also, even though they are disabled by the current patch you can still downgrade and use them all you want.

For me, changing unit names would be very useful... Then you could make an RPG with a large bestiary or something...

ya, exactly. it'd made even basic maps more asthetically pleasing. instead of just having 'footmen,' you could have 'good guy footmen' and 'bad guy footmen.'

In Warcraft III you just make custom units that are exactly the same as the original unit, only with a new name. Usually people changed the color texture on them as well, to make one darker, lighter, etc. in the cases of "good" and "bad."

In Starcraft, we get screwed over and can't make custom units. The closest thing you can get is having all upgrades/researches done with regular and hero units.

Who cares about how to do it in WarCraft 3? This be a StarCraft website.

I think the first reply pretty much covered it:
