So whats the best, most effective way to protect (prevent others from edting) your maps? ...other than somthing dumb like simply not using them lol.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Zeratul_101 on 2006-06-16 at 01:04:33
nothing at the moment, OSMAP is an unprotector that can override all current map protectors
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MasterJohnny on 2006-06-16 at 01:23:17
use uberation however osmap can unprotect that
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Grand_Dracolich on 2006-06-16 at 09:29:11
I use GUEdit 3.6, because it's the most versatile player colorer, though I may start using ProEdit soon. I used to use the new Uberation 3, but it heavily modified my map when I used it to protect.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Zeratul_101 on 2006-06-16 at 09:31:36
isn't proedit the one with the accidentally, publicly released an unprotector of itself?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Grand_Dracolich on 2006-06-16 at 09:39:45
Ok, then I guess I won't get it... but do different protectors change the file size of a map by different amounts?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Zeratul_101 on 2006-06-16 at 09:48:51
as far as i know, not directly, but indirectly, like uberation(it compresses your map when it protects). try talking to legacyweapon about this, he made uberation(i think).

I thought we found a way around OSMAPS unprotection?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by sharf on 2006-06-16 at 15:29:14
Not around the unprotection of OSMAP but around the editing of triggers by OSMAP

Open Uberation
Open your map i.e Map
Compress map(DO NOT PROTECT IT YET)
Save as a NEW name i.e Map2
Open the NEW name
Protect it
Save as ANOTHER name i.e Map3

Now his makes TRIGGERS un-editable. As of now there is no way to stop OSMAP however for the purpose of stopping OSMAP i got it, its $30 per unprotection. Actualy only 8 Maps have been uprotected so far with OSMAP and only the greatest ones........ not too many noobs are gona pay that much, our BIGGEST threat is hackers makign OSMAP free...... so far, thats not happening.

You DO realise that OSMAP stands for open source mapping project, and it IS free. If you pay $30 per unprotection then I laugh long and hard.

More than 8 maps have been unprotected and OSMAP is free... where do you find your information Sharf?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by sharf on 2006-06-16 at 19:13:24
the people who made it i DOWNLOADED IT it says unprotect for 30 bucks.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by randoM on 2006-06-16 at 19:25:35
LoL! Don't do that! 30$ per unprotect are you joking? OSMAP is free to use and to unproect as many times as you want without a fee. If you have a version that cost money to unprotect you better scan your computer and delete it asap. Thats completely a rip off, especially when you can download and use the real version for free... I wouldn't be to worried about it if they were charging 30$ to unprotect cause then no one would pay that much just to unprotect as SC map.

I have OSMAP!!! LOLz! Ur paying to unprotect?!?!?!?! ROLFz.

The best protection would be doing what MillenniumArmy suggested in his news post a while ago with uberation. Do a final compress, save, open the new file, protect, save. That way, when the map is unprotected, it is still compressed.

And sharf, OSMAP is free, you simply went to a scam site using the program. A heck of a lot more maps than just 8 have been unprotected, I'm sure..

I got it from the MAKERS of OSMAP the free ver idk the MAKERS of it had a pay version must have been payed for a little then they made it free..... i don't have OSMAP cause if i wante to unprotect a map i would'nt use a SISSY unprotecting PROGRAM i would do it myself
Report, edit, etc...Posted by fritfrat(U) on 2006-06-16 at 23:42:59
I restated what you said to supply a second source of information. You already said "i got it" in reference to OSMAP, only to later say "i don't have OSMAP." And the idea of paying for the program is completely off base, since it's called Open Source Mapping.. Open source = free. It always has been since the day it came out.

Seeing how off you were for this aspect, I figured it would be nice if I supported your correct recollection of MA's tips smile.gif

sharf, I don't believe you know what you are talking about.

There are several unreleased methods of protecting against OSMAP at the moment.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by IntelliMouse on 2006-06-17 at 10:40:33
actually any map can be unprotected manually, cuz no matter what method is used to protect that map, it has to remain readable to starcraft at least.

So if a 'cracker' have learned the chk file structure very well, he can unprotect any map without too much difficulty.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by sharf on 2006-06-17 at 12:06:35
ok i know what OSMAP stands for i got it the day BEFORE it was fully released. i deleted it because i DO NOT do that crap.......and i AM a GREAT programer, so i can unprotect it if i want...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Cole on 2006-06-17 at 12:54:33
uhh Sharf you could be the greatest programmer in the world but if you can't hex edit you wont go anywhere with protection or unprotection.

Anyway

And considering how well documented the CHK is im suprised it took this long.

and btw Osmap never costed a thing. Ever. Ims uprised they havn't released it's source code files....after all it is Open Source.
