Many times that I've looked in the Map Making Assistance, I've seen topics with "medium difficulty" questions. And there are a lot of not very experienced people who answer the question, but all a bit differently. Then they start discussion over nothing, or over the details that they don't know, but deem to know them. So instead of a quick reply from an experienced person, you may get lot of different repies from (I will be a bit rude) noobs.

I understand that the moderators (such as Kenoli), who are very experienced and provide great help, are not robots, and it would be selfish to say that they spend all their time in that forum.

But could moderators atleast Verbally warn people who talk about subjects that they don't fully know AND/OR provide wrong information ?

We started to a few weeks ago. tongue.gif
Whether or not they get punishment depends on how terrible the suggestions are.

on a related note, could the admins or other experienced mapmakers write and pin information explaining hyper triggers and how waits affect and stuff like that?

Harldy anyone bothers looking in the tutorials... They simply want a fast easy answer.

exactly why i think having a pinned tutorial right in the forum would help a little. it'd definitely get alot more traffic than in the tutorial database

Like, dis? http://www.staredit.net/index.php?showtopic=4311

The problem is some members ignore everything. Put the tutorial anywhere but it will still be in large part ignored.

i was talking about hyper triggers and waits... i dunno how many of those topics i've seen. even if they(people who need help) do ignore it, people who respond can give them a link to good reliable information(some of the members prob don't know or don't bother looking for verified information in the tutorials)

Maybe, for a question that can be found in the tutorials, have a mod or someone post "Look in the tutorials" or something like that, then close it? Will that teach them? Or will they just post the thread again until they get an answer?

Hmm I've been noticing that since a few people have been replying, some really noobish suggestions have been coming up in MMA.

People asking newbie questions isn't really a problem, as long as there are people patient and willing to explain things to them or direct them to tutorials (even though that information is easily accessible for themselves).

This topic is complaining about noobish answers, not questions though. Giving a verbal warning seems to me like a reasonable way of making people think twice about whether they really do understand what they're talking about when they give advice. That said, you have to be careful, because it's quite possible for someone to sincerely believe something that is incorrect (e.g. the 'bottom-to-top' rule in removing units, when the 'left-to-right' rule is in fact the only rule) - and in that case, they aren't just being a noob who is posting the first thing that comes to mind.

People often point to tutorials as answers to questions; a lot of the time, however, someone else will simply go to the tutorial and copy/paste the material into the thread, or explain it in their own words. I think it's not normally the question-asker who pushes the question - normally simple questions are 'over-answered' even before the topic starter returns to their topic (which isn't a problem as long as the multitude of answers aren't confusing, mutually contradictory, or wrong).
