Well, at least you know that you need to take things step by step, rather than aiming too high with your first map. I won't expect too much from this, but it seems like a decent effort for a first try.

Remind me to give you a critique on this map when it's finished.

Artifact RPG

Genre: Action/Rpg

Battle System: Real time

Tileset: Iceworld

Dimensions: 192x192

Alright, so I said I'll review this, and thus I shall. As your first map, you can expect alot of criticism, but don't be discouraged. Think of this as getting all the tips in one sitting (although that's not healthy), and will help improve your next map dramatically, that is, if you follow the advice given.

Story: Well, it's already stated that there's no story, but I'm categorizing this anyways. You can do better than this. I really do hope so. So, in the best case scenario, you'll think of something much more original and captivating in your next map. And just a word of advice, I don't think monarchies will exist in the future. At least, not for the human race. So no futuristic kings. Although that sounds pretty cool.

Terrain: I'm looking at this right now and I've realized that it's one large open snowfield. Aha. That's problem number one. Obviously, you don't want your players to be bored now, would you? Give some eye candy, realism, and variation in the terrain to wow the audience, or create a strategic battlefield. Although this RPG isn't really a walk from point A to point B sort of RPG, that doesn't mean you can't expand on the terrain to make it life-like. What would an alien planet look like? Full of cliffs and strange drop-offs? Or maybe a metallic maze-like complex? Use what you can from the tileset and imagine how it would fit into the story. A secondary complaint is that...the base is too large and too empty. Walking to the heal point and back to the battlefield is...quite slow, to say the least. You might want a more compact base in order to have more room for the battlefield, and to spare waits for the players.

Battle System: Since there's no battle system here, it's really just the evolving system and balancing I'll mention here. Yes, there were some balancing issues, as the game was too easy once the player has a certain amount of ups. Although you did have an army of sunkens and spores to counter that, Zerg buildings are not the way to go in an RPG. Infact, that leads us to the next point, which is Zerg buildings in an RPG altogether. Now, I may be biased, but I do not like an RPG whereas there's a Zerg AI script. Personally, I wouldn't not call this an RPG, because...well, it's too meleeish on the computer's part. I suggest you go around and play Death Knights III, or Faith and Destiny RPG and check out how other systems work. Since you are a beginner mapmaker, I don't expect your second map to jump to that quality, but I do expect improvements in your works. Great, now I sound like a teacher.

Originality: Er...I'll have to compliment on the Non-winged/Winged class, since that's something I haven't seen before. However, there is little else to be proud of. And...that's all I can think of for this.

Complexity: I actually was a bit confused about where to heal, although that was just a bit of carelessness on my side. Otherwise, this game is rather self-explanitory, or more of a self-serve thing. Nothing too difficult here.

As your first work, I will say that you've gotten the hang of triggers all-around, since there were no bugs that I've spotted. However, I would like to see some more...special triggerings, or maybe effects. This includes the ending which was rather...abrupt. Basically, I'll be lenient and say not bad for a first try, but you've got a long way to go if you want to be one of the best, or make one of the best. Is that all I have to say? I dunno, I was a bit tired last night when playing this, so there may be some stuff missing. But you should be able to figure things out.
