Staredit Network -> UMS Showcase -> I Need Comments On My Map Ideas...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by EzDay281 on 2004-07-27 at 17:07:49
Alright, so I've been changing my "My Maps" thread even though it's not been viewed by anyone but me and maybe some random guy that noticed the link in my sig, well, it's changed, and I want comments and suggestions on my ideas... bleh...

ED2MI: Rpg Hero Idea

Offensive Defense. Two teams duke it out, one choosing units to send to the other's Goal line. The other tries to kill those units. Both teams can buy "Attackers" which will fight the other team's "Lord", which can be upgraded. Once some team's lord dies, game over.

Mini-game Madness. Just a bunch of mini-games for you to play. Not really much to say.

TeamWars. Like Lazer Tag, but with more characters, different terrain, different hero setup, different stats, ya.

Castlevania Rpg. This will use an original system for certain enemies, mainly normal skeletons. This is basicaly because I wanna use certain mapping things for cool stuff

Machine vs Animal. There's the machines, owned by computer, and animals, owned by the players. The animals include even enemies, such as Cats N Mice, but they're under a temporary truce so as to have a fighting chance against hte machines.

Unhidden Secrets RPG - Can't comment much on this, given that all you've really described is an incredibly loose storyline. Although, I do have to say the name sounds kinda... off. I dunno, but "unhidden" just doesn't sound right. Is it even a word? Maybe, "Uncovered Secrets RPG", or something like that.

Offensive Defense - Once again, I have more to say about the name than I do the map, lol. Offensive Defense sounds really off. Generally, you don't put 2 opposites together like that unless seperated by "and". It just sounds weird. Also, this map sounds kinda like a variant of "marine tug of war".

Mini-game Madness - This could have some potential, depending on how many mini-games you include, and how well done they are. Maybe make it Mario Party-style, where the mini-games are just a supplement to the main game?

Darkness RPG - Nothing overly original, hence nothing worth commenting on.

TeamWars - I do like some versions of Lazer Tag, but you have to be VERY careful when making this map. Even a slight bit of off-balance gameplay will ruin it. So you gotta make sure to playtest and balance every unit, every inch of terrain, etc. Also, remember to take into account the weakness of ghosts against large units (concussive dmg). A lot of maps don't take this into account, and when players are forced to use ghosts as their main characters, it can quickly become ridiculously cheap. For example, creating a really beefy ultralisk, that ends up taking twice as much dmg to kill as you originally intended, making the first player to get it the guaranteed winner. Also, if you give seige tanks to players, either provide some good counters for it, or don't allow it to insta-kill player's main units. Nothing is more frustrating than a player with a seige tank who camps the entire game, and being unable to get any kills off because all of your units die before you even get in range. Be very careful with this map.

Unhidden Secrets Rpg. Ya, I have the same problem with the name, it'll change. I just created a storyline and name really quick to house an idea I wanna use in a sci-fi rpg.

Offensive Defense. Marine Tug'o'war? Nothing like it! Lemme explain it this way...
MArine Tug o War
-Goal Team1: To pass the other team's goalline
-Goal Team2: Same as Team1's
-Method of reaching goal Team1: Buying units, and upgrading then
-Method of reaching goal Team2: Same as Team 1's
-Method of preventing enemy from reaching goal Team1: Kill all their units
-Method of preventing enemy from reaching goal Team2: Same as Team1
Now, let's go over Offensive Defense
-Goal Team1: To kill the other Team's Lord
-Goal Team2: Same as Team1's
-Method of reaching goal Team1: Get units past the enemy goalline so as to earn money to buy "Fighters"
-Method of reachin goal Team2: Kill Offensive units so as to earn money to buy "Fighters"
Method of preventing enemy from reaching goal Team1: Upgrading your Lord, buying Lord bodyguard, and making awesome defenses so that the enemy team doesn't earn as much money
-Method of preventing enemy from reaching goal Team2: Upgrading your Lord, buying Lord bodyguards, and choosing good offensives that will make it past your enemy so he doesn't earn as much money

See the difference? Huge differences, right, even besides layout, balance, etc.

Darkness Rpg. Nothing original? No. I have not seen any Rpg in which you play as a Dark Mage going up through the various ranks in the Shadow Group until you become a DArk lord and are powerful, and have a duel with every other player(I like to have human vs human battles at end of Rpg's) to decide who becoems a "Dark Commander" and win the game. Tell me what's unoriginal about my idea. I don't like unoriginality to some extent. I prefer not to use cliche's, commonly used storylines, commonly used spells, etc...

Mini-game Madness. No. Not mario party style. It's mini-game madness, not Raynor Party or Stupid Game With Lots of Mini-games.

Team Wars. Yes, I know. I plan on plenty of balance testing, heroes will not include a sieged tank, but siege tanks are allowed. And yes, I know Ghosts do concussive damage. I even wrote a tutorial in the Tutorials Database about damage types. That's part of what I like about Laser Tag: The Marine is mainly an Anti-hero unit, when you're playing on a team with good teamwork, because with teamwork a Ghost can own a Zergling.

Actualy, spelling mistakes like that are usualy intentional, ones like tis are usualy genuine errors.

BlackHoleSun Rpg? Bleh, what do you mean like this?
Sure, it's a list of my map ideas, and it shares a couple, but then how else is it similar?

The only map I see that has potential is the mini game one, the rest sound horrible. The Darkness Rpg sound like a DBZ game where you train forever and then kill everyone. Offensive defense doesn't sound to great mainly because I hate games like tug o war and battlecraft. For your team wars game I suggest you take out the burrow ability for the ling, and give it a bit more health as the ling can burrow and gain all their life back.

Which doesn't matter if you take a powerful unit and kill it in one hit.
As for Offensive Defense... god, it's nothing like BAttlecraft or Tug'o'war? Is that so hard to understand? It's completely-effing-different! I've already stated a good reason for that above...

As for Darkness Rpg, I haven't said enough for you to be able to come to that conclussion without a LOT of random guessing, which, in most cases, is incorrect.

As for "and give it a bit more health"... have I even said how much health it has? No. Feiteng, please stop pulling assuptions about my maps out of your ass. No offense.

Ok Offensive Defense is like battle craft and tug o war because they require units to get to somewhere and attack something. I can't compare a bound to battlecraft because they're completely different. Also your descriptions arn't that clear. For the offense side what units do they get over the line? Units that they buy? The game looks impossible to balance, how are you going to stop the defenders from massing a huge army and killing everything that comes to it? Once they get the army the Offense can't win. The offense would try to get to the line, they can choose to fight there way through or walk their way through. If they choose to fight they would end up dying and gaining no money as the defense gets more and more. If the offense choose to walk they'll be killed in no time. Thus the Defense>Offense as killing units is easier than getting units across. (Why do you think it only takes several units in a tug o war or battlecraft game to end the game).

here is your explaination of the your game:
QUOTE
Bleh, this will just be become a DArk Lord and kick everyone else's arses after yiu're all really powerful.

Here is how a dbz game works:
QUOTE
Kill everything to become the strongest guy and then kick everyone else's arses after.

Not much difference eh? And if you want us to comment you have to give us enough information on your ideas or else we won't know what the hell you talking about. Your ideas should be thought out before you let other people judge hence they have different interpretations of things.
Ok I assumed hero wars was going to be lazer tag or snipers sorry about that. I didn't notice the different stats part and thought everyone is going to be killed in either 1, 2, or 3 hits.

Dark Lord RPG sounds like it would be popular on bnet if you made it mindless enough.

I like the sound of minigame madness. Simple and effective.

Your other maps sound original but i don't think there's really enough to judge how it would turn out. It could either suck really bad or kick freakin ass

I know. I haven't decided much myself yet, so I'm not really saying much less than I know.
