We are creating more more and wireless technology, and wondering this, is it possible to create wireless electricity?

ex: You would plug something similiar as we have today into the wall, but instead of a wire it would be some sort of transmitter that sended out waves (of some kind) transmitting electricity like we do with our internet.

Just a thought...

Wireless stuff doesn't 'transmit' electricity and energy, just radio waves. I have wireless technology. It's called batteries.

It would be impossible to have wireless toasters and computers, etc, without batteries.

Actually it is possible, if any of you use electric toothbrushes ( I do happy.gif) they charge without the presence of any conductors. It does use induction however so its not exactly pure wireless

I believe electric toothbrushes abuse the fact that you basically need to shake the toothbrush anyway.

Sure, it's possible, if you want to get shocked.

mythbusters already did this

its possible to have wireless electricity if the device requires extremely small, but constant amounts. So far it can only work with things like quartz watches and radios.

sending out waves of electricity is impossible right now and if it was possible it would be very dangerous wann know y!? Ever stick your finger in a socket, nope because you'd get shocked, its everywhere, shock, shock, shock! ouch biggrin.gif

Wireless electricity is possible; but you cannot safely transmit electricity without a conduit. "magic" delivery of electricity is impossible.

Wireless electricity is possible, the problem is the voltages required. You've probably seen the most common form of it, it's called lightning.

Although it is tough to transmit electricity through the air because of the high resistance there are other ways. One currently in development involves turning electricity into microwaves, then converting those microwaves back into electricity at the other end.

This is what I meant, A wireless world is my dream, some day everything will be wirless, what I meant is right now we dont have wireless electricity, because if we did we would not have telephone wires. And if you live in the city you dont have wires in the air, because their in the ground! Bluetooth is a big step to this wireless world!

I just have to add that Logitech is the shiz! biggrin.gif

Well energy is basicaly a controlled group of waves being transmitted from one object to another. This really could be possible but highly inefficient and dangerous.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2006-06-26 at 00:33:03
The only "wireless" electricity possible is using a conduit other than a wire. You could replace wires with rubber pipes of salt water, for example.

Wouldnt that still be used kind of like a wire, like it would be connected to something, so this would not fix anything at all would it, it would just change the type of wire your using!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2006-06-26 at 01:36:50
Well, you could conduct electricity by inducing lightning between two connection points, but that's rather dangerous and less convienent than wires.

But that's ionizing / magnetizing the coils. Not exactly wireless, per se.

He was reffering to as if there were electricity everywhere, shocking people no matter where they were, it was intended as a joke.

Wireless electricity is tough, but why not just convert it into another form of energy(like radiation) and turn it into power at the other end. Have a room covered in light emmitors and receivers, if an object doesn't catch the power, then the wall will, and transmit it back. Sound like a good idea?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by O)FaRTy1billion on 2006-06-26 at 16:22:24
Radiation can be bad...

Could you change electricity into light energy, and then back?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Gigins on 2006-06-26 at 16:34:00
I would say it's kinda stupid idea to transfer electricity via waves through air. tongue.gif I believe it more possible to create hi-power batteries with some kind of self rechange abilities. biggrin.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kow on 2006-06-26 at 16:39:59
How would it self recharge though?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Gigins on 2006-06-26 at 16:45:55
Maybe with 2 separate power batteries. Each of them would run a recharge process for each other. The only thing that this recharge process should spend less energy than it creates. I think it's quite possible.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MillenniumArmy on 2006-06-26 at 16:49:19
If you want "wireless energy," then it's going to have to be something other than electricity.
Edit: unless you are willing to get yourself harmed

Well. You guys shot me down lol. oh well.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TERRAINFIGHTER on 2006-06-26 at 18:00:10
there is a way you can go about doing this, but it would lose ALOT of electricity in the process tongue.gif

try directly powering a very powerful light with a outlet, then put a heat/light conductor on the other side

how would you go about doing this?
put dark black titanium blocks at the tips of a wind-mill like contraption, the heat would be absorbed by the titanium and converted into energy, along with the light literally pushing the windmill to make it conduct the leftover light into power...

there is a downside though, you would lose 4/5 of the energy you put in, and the windmill thing would have to be EXTREMELY light or else the light wouldn't push it, thus making you lose 9/10 of the energy disgust.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by O)FaRTy1billion on 2006-06-26 at 18:11:58
Just use a laser... it focuses the light.

And in thoes lamp things that spin, it is the rising heat that makes them turn; not the light.
