Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Addons without their "mother" buildings?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Richan on 2006-06-26 at 06:44:53
Hi guys, I remember once reading that you could use addons such as ComSat Stations or Nuke Silos without a Command Center (or the necessary building) connected to it. However, I haven't been able to find the Tutorial in SEN. Would anybody be able to help me? I really need to know how to do so because Command Center with Nuke Silos occupy too much space in the map I'm working on, so I need the Nuke Silos working alone.

I had already thought of stacking the buildings, but what if some smart player decides to lift off the Command Center? I wouldn't be able to use a trigger to replace that CC, as the other buildings would occupy space.

Thx. See ya! wink.gif

I thought you just use starforge and place the addon on the map with the corosponding player. I'll check and make sure... unless someone can confirm... >_<

Yep, preplace the addons using an editor other than Staredit to give them to a specified player.

Notes: (i) If you try to do it in Blizzard's Staredit, the addon will be given to p12 unless it's attached to its parent. (ii) If you try instead to give an unattached addon from p12 to a player using triggers, it won't work. (iii) If you create an addon for a player using triggers, it will be given to p12 as soon as it is created (I'm not even sure if it attaches to an adjacent parent building automatically). So the players had better not lose their preplaced addon, 'cause you can't recreate it during the game using triggers.

you can create a 'motherless' addon that still belongs to the player using starforge or Xtra(forget which one). however, keep in mind, the nuke silo is extremely buggy in this situation.

You can use SCMD, too.

I've been using Xtra a lot lately, and I can safely say that placing motherless adons works in it too.

OK, thanks. I use Xtra and SCMD, so I guess I won't have any problems, unless...

If that doesn't work just stack the buildings like you were going to and make it so they can't lift.
