Staredit Network -> Melee Chat -> Melee Terrain Freelancers? ^^

I know this is more of a freelancer post, but i figured most people who deal with this kind of thing could be found here...

Now, I don't know if this is feasable on such a small area, and if the overwhelming majority is "impossible", then I can accept it...

Basically, I'm looking to get improve my arena in SC Tournament Prime terrain-wise, keeping it intresting for all players, regardless of race and tactic... (so good balance is essential)...

Currently i just have a few trees thrown around, but to be honest, not much thought went into it heh...

Any experienced melee map maker willing to throw some things into my map? It shouldn't be too big of a job since the arena is a fairly small space... although that might make it tougher to work with... happy.gif

The easiest way would be to post the map and have people comment. That way not only the map, but also you would get better.

Its just a 35x70 (H x W) jungle field with opposing forces appearing on opposing sides of the field (left vs right), but sure, I'll upload a version when I get home happy.gif

When I said map I meant screenshots, lol. I'm too lazy to upload a map and look at it.

try using isometric terrain instead of square

The square is just for the arena boundaries... inside I'd definitely prefer Isom...

An arena of the size posted in the map above, that has terrain features that'll keep the game more interesting than just an empty arena with a bunch of trees, but that can be used for an infinite amount of matches, and that'd be balanced towards the different races and strategies that can be used... happy.gif (yes, that's all 1 sentence... tongue.gif)

[sub]Do you want the bounderies to just end in null? Or do you want this arena to have temple walls, or high dirt walls? How much of an area to I need to leave open on each side for units to spawn? Do you want me to add cliffs and ramps, or keep it flat?[/sub]

leave the boundaries in null... i copied the terrain for the arena from the real map, so u can play with it in there... I'll copy it back into the map if this works out happy.gif

you should leave 3 locations that are set up one above another on the 2 sides... I currently have the trees in the map, I have trees currently in the map, I left the trees out of the sides, so you can use that as a reference... you can probably push it a little further to the left and right, but not too much...

I guess cliffs and ramps are ok, but I don't see any way of adding them isometrically without overdoing it... I wouldn't want players to always use the same strategies... if ramps and cliffs can be added for additional possible strategies, but while still keeping more mainstream strategies effective, that's ok...

As for the arena boundaries, don't worry about them, leave them as-is, try to work inside them...

[sub]Yeah, I lied. I'm not going to do it. Because you made it in Starforge/Draft, it gets all buggy when I try to open it in staredit.[/sub]

Maybe a long-ramp highground in the middle, that way it will force people to be aggressive, and take the middle ground early.

killable walls in key areas (flanking?) would be fun aswell. Depots etc.

You can't have preplaced buildings in melee unless they are sprites, Not sure if you can kill sprites... hmm...

It looks to me that this map will be best for Zerg players, the small field allows for a six pool and a worker swarm to dominate. The map is ill-suited for Protoss or Terran players.

EDIT - Maybe make a smaller map size like 96x96 instead of 128x128? The 128x128 is big and a waste of space.
