I haven't done anything well mappingly in quite some time and I wanted to test my limits with a decent size project full of complex systems, so over the summer you will witness the birth of Project Modesto, a Fight Club map. Expect updates daily to thread, and juicy details of what the fighting system will be like. (If not the other systems. wink.gif ) Don't expect a full blown RPG, but don't expect a standard map either. This map will be full of melee violence instead of mainly plot driven adventuring and cool looking spells. (Not to say that I won't have cool looking stuff, just don't expect wizardry and witchcraft.)

There will be 4 cities, they'll be identical but each one will have only one player in it. The only time the characters will interact is inside Fight Club, but everything done in a city affects all of them. Don't expect the biggest cities ever, but they will be cool looking. Badlands and all.

The characters will be civilians while they're in the fight club. So you have to be fast and have technique to get the fight system running smoothly. As soon as I finish it I'll release a demo map. I intend on the fight actions being Punch, Kick, Grapple and Counter. You don't block in Fight Club, ever. The health system will have individual metres for each leg, each arm, your torso and your head. Damage will be done through a strength system. As an exmaple.

Player one is fighting player 2. Player one has 5 strength points and player 2 has 3. Since strength and endurance will be different we can ignore player 2's for now. Player one roundhouse kicks player 2. Since the roundhouse kick was perfect it lands dirrectly on his head. 5 zerglings are created at the head for 2000 milliseconds and they do the damage. I haven't quite worked out how endurance will go, but I think countering will be traps activated at the location to kill the zerglings faster than normal.

You've obviously never seen/read Fight Club... Those ARE the first two rules.

As for having 3 players instead of 4... It gives me room to have less triggers, less lag, and more control panels.

Day/Night system is the last thing on my mind. Fighting is the first, then stats, then work. Then when all that's done, butterfly effects. Then if I don't add anything else, Day/Night.

Anyway, I forsee the finished fight system as the two fighters going into a ring, they'll each have their sexified grids overhead detecting every little movements.

The stats are probably just going to be Strength, Defense, and Speed. Each part of the combatents body will have it's own health, and the strength will determine how much damage is done with each attack. (Everyone is a civilian.) If a body part is taken out, it'll affect your moveset (And possibly make you forfeit the fight.)

We're going to have different fighting styles, probably 4, that your fighter can train for. Their level in each will change their moves. I'm open to the fighting styles, give me your opinion here.

For fighting we're going to have a building with 4 units buildable, probably gonna be a gateway. When you build the units you do whatever move it represents. (The move change depending how you train through the game, the start as Weak Punch, Weak Kick, Weak Block, Mercy.)

I'm pretty sure that i've already played a fight club map but it sucked pretty badly, let's hope this one is alot better.

How do people feel about drunken boxing?

Also, I got my terraining style down for this project. I found a nice way to do curbs, but no sidewalks, expect early screeshots by next week. Also, I'm currently terraining on a 42 inch bigscreen tv, so it might be pictures of me standing next to the buildings. Which will be cool.




I made parking lots, and a few buildings. For some reason smaller buildings are harder to make... Work is progressing nicely for one of my maps.
