Staredit Network -> Concepts -> Deathknight Beat Me To The Extended Range Glitch
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kejardon on 2004-07-29 at 03:03:11
I was bored. Very, very bored. So I went here: http://www.staredit.net/index.php?download=370
That map has a pecular happening at 20:00. One of DeathKnight's cannons shoots a photon at a seige tank, from the seige tank's full range. How? The cannon was originally shooting at a medic, and was immediately about to fire. However, the said seige tank fired at the cannon, causing it to reaquire the tank as its target. And it fires all the way across the screen to it.

But I don't think anyone else was bored enough to notice that. tongue.gif Still, it gives me hope for my uber-ranged archons...

Unfortunately, I can't just post images. Soooo, copy and paste the links if you want them.

IT'S GOOD! Although not enough to kill.

There's also a very funny AI glitch (which I'm sure Shadow Paladin noticed): There was a science vessel, unblinded or anything, and a vulture right next to his burrowed ling. They just sat there, waiting for an SCV to repair them who wouldn't because it was trying to repair a dropship but couldn't due to lack of vespene. SP eventually noticed, unburrowed, and killed the vulture. Silly computers. tongue.gif

Good eye Kejardon I don't think I wouldn't have payed enough attention to that, I wouldv'e just followed the game instead of going omg I found a bug.
GJ.

It pretty much dosen't make much sense on how it attacked the tank. Maybe what you say it's true but i have never seen my canons attack a siege tank at full range.

Nice trick, I should investigate about, maybe you can get awesome attack ranges =)

I just want to know if it can be repeated under preset conditions.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Clokr_ on 2004-07-30 at 15:58:26
It should happen under preset conditions, the replays are never random.

I thought that explained it pretty well.

Interesting thing that, it occurs in some Pro Replays, sometimes with the carrier, i think the reaver is the most interesting unit, withs in Scarabs doing crazy feats to get their target.

I'm guessing it would work with any unit which has a moving sprite as its "attack" so that you can watch its process, and Starcraft just records the location of a unit, and its position at that time, and fires, then maybe due to lag or just the slowness of the engine the unit is able to move and yet still be hit.

The unit doesnt really need to have a moving sprite. Check the kerrigan glitch wink.gif

actually... im pretty sure we have all seen this glitch mutliple times but not seen it.. im not sure if you guys play melee or defenses but i will use a defense as an example...

Attack: Turrent
now we all know that the turrent has descent... yet not exclusive attack range, correct? however if it fires at a moving target the missle will continue to follow that target until it reaches it... usually this only extends the rockets reach half an inch but it makes me wonder... if we set up a switch to teleport some of those ships.. would the missle follow them?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Stereo on 2004-08-06 at 12:58:36
Or there are attacks that fire over time (yamato) of course.. once you pick a target with yamato it fires no matter where that unit goes. I don't know how it handles the unit getting moved by triggers though.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Illusion on 2004-08-11 at 02:43:53
Sama- Yeah i had that idea a while ago , the missile just crashes where the unit was last. Im pretty sure the yamato does the same.
